The academic sector, like any other service or industrial sector, requires constant innovation in each of its processes. In Colombia, the Universidad EAFIT, as part of the search for new ways of teaching and learning, has recognized the significance of making learning spaces suitable for the people involved in this process. In consequence, the project described in this chapter shows the most efficient methodology for the optimization of asset management for the Universidad EAFIT's Ice Water Plant. The methodologies used include key concepts and factors such as availability, maintainability, and reliability in the costs related to the behavior and nature of the failures, having as reference an integral model of the maintenance management process. The objective of this project is to maintain these high standards of operation and maintenance throughout the useful life of the system and to show the importance that maintenance and the methodologies associated with it have in any sector or industry.

Enterprise asset management (EAM) systems are used by asset owners and/or operators to manage the maintenance of their physical assets. These assets, including equipment, facilities, vehicles, and infrastructure, need maintenance to sustain their operations. An EAM system provides the means to have less unplanned downtime and extended asset longevity, which offers clear business benefits that improve the profit and loss statement and balance sheet. Particularly for capital-intensive industries, like drilling and exploration, the failure of on-time delivery of critical equipment or processes is disruptive and costs nonproductive time and customer satisfaction. Organizations understand these issues and employ an appropriate asset management system to engineer their asset maintenance and management. An EAM system is needed to manage the people, assets/equipment, and processes. EAMs are used to plan, optimize, execute, and track the needed maintenance activities with associated priorities, skills, materials, tools, and information. Similarly, nondestructive testing (NDT) is used as a tool for integrity assessment of assets in drilling and exploration. The main advantage of using NDT is that the item’s intended use or serviceability is not affected. The selection of a specific technique should be based on knowledge and skills that include design, material processing, and material evaluation. Validating the purpose of this paper, we emphasize the importance of optimizing the asset utilization and serviceability to enhance overall efficiency by integrating EAM software that manages assets, the operation management system (OMS) controlling the processes, and asset inspection management systems (AIMSs).

Asset management, as a global process through which value is added to a company, is a managerial model that involves major changes in strategies, technologies, and resources; risk management; and a change in the attitude of the people involved. The growing commitment of companies to sustainability results in them applying this approach to all their activities. For this reason, it is relevant to develop sustainability risk assessment procedures in industrial assets. This paper presents a methodological framework for the inclusion of sustainability aspects in the risk management of industrial assets. This approach presents a procedure to provide general criteria, methodology, and essential mandatory requirements to be adopted for the identification, analysis, and evaluation of sustainability aspects, impacts, and risks related to assets owned and managed by an industrial company. The proposed procedure is based on ISO 55,000 and ISO 31,000 standards and was developed following three steps: a preliminary study, identification of sustainability aspects and sustainability risks/opportunities, and impact assessment and residual risks management. Our results could serve as a model that facilitates the improvement of sustainability analysis risks in industrial assets and could be used as a basis for future developments in the application of the standards to optimize management of these assets.

Water is one of the most essential needs in human daily life. Water losses or Non-Revenue Water (NRW) refers to the treated water that has been produced from water plant which did not reach to the customer. This waste of water has caused the company to suffer losses and hence, burdens the people with increasing water tariff. Moreover, it becomes one of the challenges for commercial water system management because the water company must fulfil the demand from the society which keep increasing day by day. In addition, the demand for water is increasing, as the population is growing. Despite having the rainfall throughout the year in Malaysia, many cities are experiencing water shortage and frequent water supply disruptions. Therefore, efficient management of water distribution is required to minimise the water losses and to make sure the sustainability of water reserve for a long period. This study focuses on identifying the significant factors that influence the Non-Revenue Water and modelling the data using Multiple Linear Regression Model. The sample size used in this study were 212 observations and the variables involved were Length of Connection, Number of Connection, Production Quantity, Consumption Quantity and Non-Revenue Water. It is found that the variables of Number of Connection, Consumption Quantity and Production Quantity were significant to Non-Revenue Water whereas the variable of Length of Connection was not significant. It is hoped that the result from this study can be used by the water authority company in improving the water distribution and thus reduce water losses and cost.

AbstractOn the surface, adopting technology presents itself as a technical issue. Yet, the real challenge of digital transformation in educational contexts necessitates a second-order change to disrupt and realign interconnected systems. A significant component of digital transformation in K-12 schools is an understanding of the unique affordances of digital tools and technologies and how these can be leveraged to align with learning goals and targets to impact teaching and learning in new ways. While there are several models for innovation diffusion and technology adoption in K-12 contexts, they fall short, particularly in describing the nature and interactions of these interconnected systems. These aspects of technology implementation remain a mystery. As a result, efforts to enact change in K-12 organizations often fall short due to a lack of understanding of context, inadequate goal-setting, insufficient professional development and personalized supports to build capacity, and a failure to evaluate progress. In K-12 educational settings, the people, the competencies, and the culture, alongside the strong leadership, resources, and organizational context, are all essential to effect sustainable change. We propose a model for digital transformation that considers all of these factors and interconnected systems.
