The purpose of this article is to identify blockchain's role in achieving logistic objectives, with the aim of pointing out the significance of blockchain technology in the digital transformation of logistics and transportation. Implementation of the blockchain technology in combination with IoT elements in logistics and transportation contributes to business process optimization, supply chain traceability and transparency, and significant financial savings. There are limitations as blockchain is at a relatively early stage of development with most projects. Therefore, the approach of theory building from multiple case studies was used. The article provides a comprehensive overview of current blockchain initiatives and use-cases. This article is believed to be the first to address the role of blockchain technology in achieving logistics objectives. Results from this research indicate that blockchain technology contributes to the achievement of logistics objectives.

In recent years, development of blockchain technology and virtual currencies (VCs) have been followed not just by the media and industry professionals all over the world – there rarely could be found a person who has not ever heard the term ‘bitcoin’. Despite the popularity of VCs, there is a lack of comprehensible information in the Latvian language about what the virtual currency (VC) is, as well the concepts of digital and VCs are often misused as synonyms. The research is based on the analysis of special literature and scientific publications on the system of VCs. The aim of the research: to explore the concept of VCs in the modern economy. General scientific research methods are used in the research: the method of monographic or descriptive research, the comparative analysis method for studying the concept of VCs, the classification, legal regulation, and future development possibilities. The results of the research show that VCs are a type of digital currency, though, the opposite statement is not correct. Thus, all VCs are digital, but not all digital currencies are virtual. Exploration of the legal framework of VCs suggests that it is at an early stage of development. With the increasing number of VCs and along with strengthening of the legal framework of VCs, the issue of possible directions of the future development of VCs is raised. Two points of view dominate: the future currency or payment system, for example, smart contracts.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate how and why German cost accounting prevails and develops in German multinational organisations despite the various indications in the literature that it will converge towards an anglophone system over time. To analyse this, the authors draw on the ideas of professional practices (Jarzabkowski et al., 2016) and their path dependency (Schreyögg and Sydow, 2011) as a method theory. Design/methodology/approach The authors deploy an exploratory method using multiple case studies to determine similarities and differences between organisations concerning how cost accounting practices developed over time. They conducted interviews with cost accountants, group controllers and managers of German multinational organisations as well as experts from higher education institutions and consultancies. Findings This paper shows the path-dependent development of German cost accounting. It identifies self-reinforcing learning and complementary effects that seem to make it inefficient for organisations to deviate from the learned path as well as economic and normative pressures that affect the design of cost accounting systems. Originality/value By considering German cost accounting a path-dependent professional practice, this paper illustrates how and why the core of German cost accounting prevails, although organisations make adjustments within the existing structures to respond to the pressures they face. This paper hereby highlights the role of cost accountants in defining (and consequently bringing about or preventing changes to) the design of cost accounting systems.

PurposeThe continuous presence and intensity of the Internet of things (IoT) in our lives and the risk of security breaches in traditional transactional and financial platforms are the major cause of personal and organizational data losses. Blockchain emerges as a promised technology to ensure higher levels of data encryption and security. Thus, this study aims to develop a systematic literature review analyzing the previous literature and to purpose of a framework to better understand the process of blockchain security.Design/methodology/approachThe 75 articles reviewed were obtained through the Scopus database and a bibliographic-coupling analysis was developed to identify the main themes of this research area, via VOSviewer software.FindingsThe results enable the categorization of the existing literature revealing four clusters: 1) feasibility, 2) fintech and cryptocurrency, 3) data trust and share and 4) applicability. Blockchain technology is still in its early stage of development and counting on researchers in security and cryptography to take it further to new highs, to allow its applicability to different areas and in long-term scenarios.Originality/valueThis systematic literature creates a base to reduce the blockchain security literature gap. In addition, it provides a framework that enables the scientific community to access the main subjects discussed and the articulation between concepts. Furthermore, it enhances the state-of-the-art literature on blockchain security and proposes a future research agenda.

An increasing number of companies are embracing the transition from a product focus to a service focus in their offering in order to face the challenges of the experience economy. However such transition (i.e., servitization) is challenging, since it requires companies to change both their processes and their mindset. In this paper we propose service design practices as an effective approach for overcoming the challenges of servitization and for achieving such a multi-layered transformation. By means of expert interviews, ethnography and multiple case studies, we empirically show how service design professionals guide companies towards a sustainable adoption of service orientation and successful implementation of service innovations. Specifically, we describe and exemplify a set of practices through which service design professionals establish a service-oriented mindset, introduce a service-specific development process, and a create widespread commitment to the servitization transition

Materials based on Mg2+-containing phosphates are gaining great relevance in the field of bone tissue repair via regenerative medicine methods. Magnesium ions, together with condensed phosphate ions, play a significant role in the process of bone remodeling, affecting the early stage of bone regeneration through active participation in the process of osteosynthesis. Here we pro-vide a comprehensive overview of the usage of biomaterials based on magnesium phosphate and magnesium calcium phosphate in bone reconstruction. The role of magnesium ions in angiogene-sis, an important process associated with osteogenesis, is considered. Finally, the biological properties of magnesium phosphates for bone regeneration are summarized. They show promis-ing results in terms of use as bone replacement material.

This article examines the constitutional and legal foundations of the formation and activities of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a legislative body. As a result of research, the author emphasizes the role of transparent, democratic and fair parliamentary elections at the present stage of development of parliamentarism for the full expression of the interests of the people in legitimate legislative and indirect legislation, the need to restore the practice of mixed elections in the formation of the Milli Majlis. Considers it expedient to use blockchain technology in the elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan by making appropriate changes to the current electoral legislation, and also puts forward other important scientific provisions and proposals aimed at forming and improving the constitutional and legal foundation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Abstract This paper examines the role of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on energy consumption and environmental quality in BRICS from 1990 to 2019. We use cross-sectional dependence (CSD) and the Pesaran-Yamagata slope homogeneity for the diagnostic test. After confirming the diagnosis test, we employ CIPS and CADF second generation panel unit root test, which confirms that all elements are stationary at first difference. The Pooled Mean Group (PMG), Westerlund cointegration, two-step GMM, panel FMOLS and DOLS model have been used to determine the short term and long-term association among the variables. The cointegration and PMG results confirm that the short-run and long-run association exists among the considered variables. The GMM and DOLS results reveal that developing countries produced environmental pollution at the early stage of development and checked in the long run. The empirical results hold up the EKC hypothesis, which implies that OFDI and energy consumption help expand greener technology to host countries' environmental improvement in the long run and confirm that an inverted U-shaped linkage exists. Hence, the study suggests that developing countries should pay more attention to sustainable development and technological development that encourages more eco-friendly and environment-friendly technology. To frame the profitable strategies, governments of emerging countries should inspire public-private partnerships to circulate the environmental consciousness, guideline for energy efficiency, and generate a pollution-free environment.

Design policy for innovation and prosperity has been acknowledged and adopted globally. Existing literature on design policy usually adopts a top-down perspective to analyse the components of the design innovation system and ignores the practical needs of practitioners. Our study aims to explore potential opportunities and challenges of design policies for design-enabled innovation from a bottom-up perspective. We firstly discussed the enabling role of design in the context of design as input, output and process of innovation with emphasis on design-enabled innovation conception; then European design policies are reviewed in terms of characteristics, priorities and strategies at EU, national and regional levels. Based on multiple case studies on the SWOT (i.e., Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of 50 European design innovation initiatives, we summarised eight dimensions of SWOT factors—organisation, production, performance, knowledge, environment, market, technology and institution—so as to identify main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that practitioners are facing, and discussed common and specific factors that might influence the identification of SWOT forces by taking into account country and sector factors. We concluded that European design policy is located at a point of intergenerational transition from awareness raising to capacity building, which calls for more coordinated policies to tackle current opportunities and challenges.
