Effect of Career Determinants on Employee Engagement in the Indian IT Sector

For sustainability of the Indian IT industry, there is a need to focus on career determinants that affect employee engagement. This study provides a framework to understand career determinants affecting employee engagement in the Indian IT sector that can lead towards successful and sustainable organisations. The data is accumulated from 272 techies employed in various IT companies across the country. By applying descriptive statistics, correlation, multi-regression, and interaction models, the study is developed. In the study, career determinants such as benefits, promotion satisfaction, career autonomy, and level of responsibility affect employee engagement. Moreover, the relationship is moderated by gender, and it varies between male and female IT employees. Therefore, for sustainability of the IT industry in India, there is a need to focus on career determinants that increase employee engagement.

This chapter presents the relationship and impact of employee empowerment on organizational trust. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between employee empowerment and organizational trust in the IT industry. This study examines the difference between the empowerment level and organizational level of male and female employees. The questionnaire employed in this study consisted of empowerment by A. K. Mishra and G. M. Spreitzer and organizational trust variables by P. Mishra. The sample for the study consisted of 475 IT professionals from five IT organizations. Simple random sampling was used as a sampling technique, and this study was an ex-post in nature. Data were analyzed using t-test, correlation, and multiple regression. The result revealed that employee empowerment had a positive and significant impact on organizational trust. There is no significant difference in the empowerment of IT industry employees. It means that both male and female employees were equally empowered in their jobs. Male employees are more trust in their jobs as compared to female employees.


The current study is conducted on self-efficacy and organisational commitment of IT Employees in Coimbatore District. The objective of the study is to find the relationship between Self-efficacy and Organisational Commitment of IT Employees. A Sample of 100 employees including males and females, working in IT industry in Coimbatore District were selected. The employees were given the structured questionnaire, designed and tested by Schwarzer, R., & Jerusalem, M. (1995), Pethe et al. (1999), Allen, N. and Meyer, J. (1990). ANOVA test was used to find the difference between the variables and Pearson Correlation test was used to calculate the relationship between the variables. The results revealed that there was no significant association between male and female and self-efficacy and organisational commitment, and there was significant relationship between self-efficacy and organisational commitment and thus the research accepted the alternate hypothesis.

This chapter explores aspects of the gendering of computer science and IT, related to epistemological issues of what computing is and what type of knowledge counts. The c is based upon an interview study of how students and professionals in the field of computer science, perceive programming in a broad sense. Much of the earlier research on the under-representation of women in IT education and the IT industry has tended to focus on factors and aspects where women and men differ in their relation to IT and computers. Inspired by feminist research, it is suggested that developing an understanding of the problem of gender and IT requires a more complex analysis than a dualistic focus on differences between men and women. This chapter analyzes interviews with a range of Swedish male and female students and professionals from the field, in relation to gender with respect to metaphors of programming, inclusion and exclusion, the notion of beautiful code, understandings of masculinity and programming, and the idea of dedication.

Historically, organizations have been provisioning flexible work arrangement (FWA) options in the workplace to help employees achieve a balance between work obligations and private obligations. We explore the utilization of FWA offerings in the Indian information technology (IT) industry and its relation to employee engagement (EE). Employees working in IT organizations in Bengaluru, India, were approached and data were obtained from 504 participants. The study found that availability of FWA options coincided with their utilization. Disconcertingly, only 7 per cent of the employees were “highly engaged”, 51 per cent were neither engaged nor disengaged and 41 per cent of the employees were disengaged with their current organization. FWAs were positively related to EE. We find congruence that FWA options lead to better EE warranting further exploration that can guide FWA policies.

International competition and globalization of business and organizations, rapid technological change and higher customer demands for products and services with increasing emphasis on environmental issues change working life. Under these pressures in order to survive and make a positive result, companies must develop both their organization and people simultaneously with their products and technologies for improving the performance, work ability, commitment and well-being of employees. Therefore study of subjective well-being among male and female employees in IT industry is of paramount importance. Such study may affect the performance and over all well-being of not only employees but also of the organization as a whole. The study is descriptive in nature whereby an attempt is made to compare the level of subjective well-being among male and female employees in IT industry with the help of two questionnaires (Satisfaction with Life Scale and Positive Affectivity and Negative Affectivity Scale) and utilizing the survey technique. Subjective well-being is statistically analyzed by means, standard deviations, and t-ratio. The study shows that gender is not a determinant of subjective well-being, and both males and females perceive subjective well-being or evaluate their lives in a similar way. The level of life satisfaction among male and female IT employees is not comparable and there existed significant gender difference in the level of life satisfaction. The level of positive affectivity and negative affectivity among male and female IT employees was comparable and there exists no significant gender difference in the level of positive affectivity.

This study was aiming on examining the relationship between internal communication and employee engagement. Specifically, this study identified the level of organizational and supervisory communication and the level of employee engagement. In Johor Bahru, a total of 169 employees in only one factory participated in the study, representing their various departments including department of accounts, technical, production, and administration. Therefore, data was being analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The result indicated that perceived internal communication has positive relationships but weak in employee engagement. Also, descriptive analysis revealed that both internal communication and employee engagement level were high.

Abstract. This study examines the relationship between students' personality and intelligence scores with their preferences for the personality profile of their lecturers. Student ratings (N = 136) of 30 lecturer trait characteristics were coded into an internally reliable Big Five taxonomy ( Costa & McCrae, 1992 ). Descriptive statistics showed that, overall, students tended to prefer conscientious, open, and stable lecturers, though correlations revealed that these preferences were largely a function of students' own personality traits. Thus, open students preferred open lecturers, while agreeable students preferred agreeable lecturers. There was evidence of a similarity effect for both Agreeableness and Openness. In addition, less intelligent students were more likely to prefer agreeable lecturers than their more intelligent counterparts were. A series of regressions showed that individual differences are particularly good predictors of preferences for agreeable lecturers, and modest, albeit significant, predictors of preferences for open and neurotic lecturers. Educational and vocational implications are considered.

The purpose of this study is to review the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 in order to improve the quality of services at Pusat Kesihatan Universiti (PKU), Universiti Utara Malaysia. The respondents of this study were customers at the PKU, UUM. The questionnaire was distributed to 50 respondents. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version 24. The data were tested using descriptive statistics, and correlation analysis to answer the research questions and to achieve the objectives. The findings show that customers agree that implementation of ISO 9001:2015 give service at PKU, UUM is good and satisfied. Through the correlation test, the results showed that the relationship between the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 has a positive and significant impact on customer satisfaction and the effect of implementing ISO 9001:2015 has a positive and significant impact in improving quality of service at PKU, UUM.Through mean and standard deviation tests, results show that tangible dimensions are the main dimensions of customer satisfaction while dimensions with low values are dimensions of responsiveness.Therefore, all aspects of service in PKU, UUM will be strengthened and all aspects of the weaknesses could be addressed to improve the service in order to maintain good quality services.
