This paper started from the perspective of the implementation effect of public transportation priority development strategy, and studied on the evaluation of urban public transit operational level of service, then whether the strategy was well put into effect could be examined. On the basis of the existing research on the evaluation index of public transit operational level of service, this paper carried out a microscopic level of service evaluation on public transportation priority strategy. Then the effect of the strategy was analyzed from the level of passengers’ satisfaction. At last, the result of this strategy was examined by the increasing of proportion of the public transportation travelers. Finally, according to the establishment of the index system, it was analyzed respectively from the two aspects of objective and subjective with the combination of AHP and passenger satisfaction survey. Then the grade of urban public transit operational level of service could be obtained.

Passenger satisfaction is an important factor that affects the choice of travel modes for municipalities, especially in big cities. This evaluation is an important task for managers when they are considering improving the competitiveness of the public transportation system. However, passenger satisfaction evaluation is difficult as the information provided by passengers is often vague, imprecise, and uncertain. This paper aims to propose a new method, using Pythagorean fuzzy sets and multi-objective optimization by a ratio analysis plus full multiplicative form method (MULTIMOORA), to evaluate the passenger satisfaction level of the public transportation system under large group environment. The former is employed to represent the satisfaction assessments of rail transit network provided by passengers. The latter is extended and used to determine the passenger satisfaction levels of rail transit lines. In addition, a combination weighting method is suggested to compute the relative weights of evaluation criteria. A case study of the rail transit network in Shanghai is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed passenger satisfaction evaluation method. The result shows that the new method proposed in this study can not only model passengers’ satisfaction evaluation information with more uncertainties, but also determine more reasonable and credible satisfaction levels of rail transit lines.

Public transit systems are faced with a dual challenge in today's security-conscious operating environment. They must continue to monitor and respond to the needs of their riders by offering easy accessibility, on-time service, and adherence to the highest of safety standards. At the same time, public transit authorities must maintain a secure environment for passengers, their workforce, equipment and facilities. This presents a formidable challenge, especially for smaller transit entities with limited resources. A method for determining rider perceptions of the safety and security policies of their transit provider is presented. This provides a method for the transit provider to determine rider perceptions and identify opportunities for enhancing rider awareness. The suggested process also provides transit personnel with a means for identifying gaps in their existing safety and security procedures, leading to the ability to improve their safety and security posture.

This article presents the outcomes of a qualitative study involving users of public transportation in the metropolitan area of Lisbon in order to obtain a deeper understanding of attitudes towards public transport and to explore perceptions of the public transport service. It is important to know what people think and feel about public transport so that strategies can be designed to attract people to public transport. Ethnographic interviews and focus group discussions were conducted to identify factors that potentially influence people’s perceptions and determine their satisfaction, or dissatisfaction with the public transport service. The key findings suggest that public transport usage would increase if the level of service was brought in line with users’ expectations; more specifically, there should be a better connection between inter-modal options, more compliance with timetables, and a more appropriate response to users’ needs.

AbstractBoth mainstream and progressive commentators heralded President Obama’s economic stimulus program as sounding the death knell of the global neoliberal accumulation regime and inaugurating a form of Neo-Keynesianism. Although some funds have been earmarked for urban infrastructure projects, elite actors have used the shock of the crisis as a pretext to delimit and dismantle the public sector. In this article, we examine the case of Chicago’s public transportation in order to evaluate these countervailing forces. On one hand, federal stimulus money has been used to rehabilitate deteriorating public transit infrastructure. On the other hand, the response of local elites to budget shortfalls caused by the current economic crisis has involved support for a combination of service cuts and intensified attacks on unions to “share the burden”. Our study of neoliberalism in Chicago’s public transit sector illustrates how local elites strategically wield the state as an instrument for accumulation, whether by retrenching the role of the state or mobilizing for a more activist role of the state in seeding accumulation.

Public transportation is one of the sustainable form of transportation which provides mobility options for the people. The public transport services are very basic need of people’s lives, especially in developing world. It is the basic means for mobility of a large percent of people and hence it is the driving force of economic and social life. Quality of service, characterized by the Level-of-Service (LoS) is one of the major factors determining the demand for public transport. This study tries to determine the city-wide Level-of-Service provided by the public transport system using the service level benchmarks as a case study of Trivandrum city. The indicators for determining the Level-of-Service used in the study are presence of organized public transport system, availability or extend of public transport supply, service coverage, average waiting time, level of comfort in public transport and the fleet availability. This approach can be used to determine the LoS at the city-level and thus provides a measure for identifying the public transport quality of an urban area.

The study area was conducted in one of the Public Vehicle Terminals located in Depok (Margonda). The area of Public Vehicle Terminal located in Depok city is not only the center of the area where the temporary stops of public transportation to raise and lower the passengers, there is also a shopping center which causes pedestrian lane always crowded by pedestrians. Therefore, the research aimed to increase the knowledge and understanding about the comfort of a pedestrian path infrastructure, as well as to know the variable values of pedestrian characteristics, the relation of speed variables with the density, and the level of service of the pedestrian facility. Thus can be known the development function of the pedestrian facility. And the method used in the research refers to Regulation of Minister o f Public Work No. 03/PRT/M/2014. The data obtained from the observation are: the number of pedestrians, pedestrian travel time, and visual observation in the field. Data is processed into pedestrian characteristic variables such as: current, speed, density , and space. To obtain the relationship between speed variables and density variables according to Greenberg method, as well as the value form of capacity and service level of pedestrian facilities in Depok City Public Vehicle Terminal Area. And the improvement of pedestrian facilities can be maintained in the Depok City Public Vehicle Terminal Area. In accordance with the guidelines referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works No. 03/PRT/M/2014.

Understanding the factors that lie beneath travelers’ satisfaction and how they relate with service performance and different improvements is a key issue for operators and public authorities when aiming to maintain existing users and to attract potential users from the car's users. The purpose of the research is to investigate the perceived quality of public transportation in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, a city with over two million inhabitants and additional other two millions of transit citizens. This approach aims to identify the aspects that mostly influence the perception of overall quality of service and to investigate the main methods/instruments for evaluating the passenger satisfaction index. Moreover, the research aims to assess the public transportation users that are ready and available to shift their travelling habits from a fixed and periodic timetable service to the "mobility-as-a-service" approach. Research methodology combines qualitative study based on focus group with quantitative study based on surveys. The representative sample is selected from the Bucharest public transportation’s users. The results of the research could be used by the both public transportation operators and public authorities that have to comply to the national and european regulations in public transportation quality assurance.

This study aims to analyze the evaluation of theperformance of transportation mode services and theperformance of transport route services to evaluate theperformance of the service level of integrated public transportsystems in the Masamba Region. The method of data collection isconducted through primary surveys and secondary surveys.Primary surveys are carried out by distributing questionnairesand data analysis techniques using SmartPLS version 3.0software and secondary surveys by collecting data related toresearch themes in several related agencies. The research sampleis that the public transportation passengers on the Masamba-Makassar Bus route as many as 98 respondents, determining thenumber of samples can be done using the Bernoulli formula.Based on the analysis of existing data obtained by respondents'perceptions that the performance of the level of service of thetransportation mode in terms of safety, comfort and orderlinesshas been effective, although in terms of equality it still needs toimprove its services. The performance of the Bus publictransport system in the Masamba area has also created anintegrated public transport system and the performance of theMasamba-Makassar PO route services is categorized well basedon the standards of public transport services from the DirectorGeneral of Land Transportation.

The recent scenario of Public transportation in most of the Indian cities shows only 20% to 30% of the total passengers utilizing any public transit as their mode of travel. Rapid growth in vehicles population has put enormous strains in all urban roads in Vijayawada, due to high vehicle ownership and poor supporting public transport facilities specially in the cities where the population is between 1 to 2 million. With more private vehicles on roads, pollution as well as congestion levels in the cities are also expected to increase. The major factor is very low ridership in public transport due to poor service quality and more travelling time. Hence there is a need to make the public transit a favorable mode of transport for the passengers. This study is concerned of assessment of public transport demand for Vijayawada and identifies the major factors for poor ridership with estimation of the probable shift of personal vehicle users to bus due to the increase in its level of service also identifies ways to account qualitative factors in the public transport project evaluation by adjusting travel time values to reflect comfort and convenience.
