A new type of gravity retaining wall combining with anchor is developed to support higher embankment. The retaining wall has the advantage of high safety, lateral deformation small, wide applicable range and low requirements for the foundation bearing capacity. The pressure distributions of gravity retaining wall with anchor have changed a lot. The change will have a significant impact on structures. In order to reveal the gravity retaining wall combining anchor pressure distributions, numerical simulation was done. The result shows that it has no obvious differences to its force state when retaining wall is reinforced with horizontal and oblique anchors, The former is applicable to the new embankment retaining wall support and the latter is applicable to the original retaining wall reinforcement.

With the highway subgrade fill increasing, traditional retaining wall cannot meet the requirements for supporting. To meet this requirement, the prestressed opposite-pull retaining wall was put forward. Due to the anchor pull of the new-style retaining wall, its bearing capacity was enhanced, but the stress is not clear. In order to reveal the stress distribution of the prestressed opposite-pull retaining wall, FLAC3D was adept to do numerical simulation on the new-style retaining wall. It simulated three conditions of the wall with no anchor, with anchor but without prestress and with prestressed anchor. The results showed that, after the layout of prestressed anchor, the lateral earth pressure of the region near the anchor increased with the increase of prestress, the lateral earth pressure of the wall is parabola distribution. The lateral earth pressure was larger than that of the wall with no anchor and with anchor but without prestress. The bearing capacity of the retaining wall was effectively improved.

The anchor which added a elastic-flexible deformable body on the common anchor will be form a new type anchor, it is called the elastic-flexible anchor. With the help of FLAC3D 3.0, we compared the numerical simulation analysis results between the common anchor and the elastic-flexible anchor. we obtained that, the elastic-flexible anchor has the higher bearing capacity and more excellent anti-deformation performance, this mainly due to the elastic-flexible deformable body which has the buffering effect of the stress and deformation. The results confirmed the elastic-flexible anchor especially applied to the support structure with the requirements of large deformation and dynamic load, and worth popularizing in the anchor retaining wall engineering.

In order to ensure the security of gravity retaining wall in the high fill subgrade, the design of gravity retaining wall with anchors is proposed, the characteristic of the new wall is that comment anchors are added to the traditional gravity retaining wall,by friction anchors provide lateral pull to the wall so the stability of the new wall is improved. Because of the constraints of anchors, the lateral free deformation is influenced and the soil pressure distribution is very complicated, field tests showed that soil pressure distribution is nonlinear and pressure concentrate in anchoring position. In order to reveal the supporting mechanism of retaining wall and propose the soil pressure formula, the model test of anchor retaining wall is made and numerical simulation is done. The results show that soil pressure appears incresent above the anchor and decreasing below the anchor, the soil pressre also grew larger away from the anchor proximal in the horizontal direction.

The opposite-pull retaining wall, formed by the anchor of both sides opposite-pulling the cantilever retaining wall, is a new type of supporting structure. Comparing with traditional retaining wall, the bearing ratio changes remarkably which will influences the structure stress. In order to popularize and apply the type of retaining wall structure, indoor model is made with different magnitude prestress applied and different magnitude is applied on top of the retaining wall to simulate different filling height. Test shows that as the top load increases the proportion of load beared by anchor decreases while that beared by retaining wall increases and the proportion of load beared by the lower anchor increases gradually. And soil arch effect appears near the anchor. The retaining wall around the anchor need reinforcement treatment during the construction.

Root pile (hereafter called RP), which is a promising new type of noncircular cross-section-shaped pile and meets the requirements of the development of the uplift pile, was introduced for promotion. On the basis of validation of experimental and numerical results, finite element models were established to study the influence of the arrangement of roots and dimension parameters on the uplift bearing capacity and the economy of RP compared with that of the straight-shaft pile and pedestal pile (hereafter called SP and PP, respectively). The results show that the uplift bearing capacity of RP is higher than that of SP and PP, and the longer the pile length is, the more the bearing capacity of RP would increase compared with that of SP and PP. In order to further improve the bearing capacity of RP, the bearing mechanism of the root was analysed, and the suggested values of root size and spacing of layers are given. In addition, the most economical way to increase pile bearing capacity is to increase pile length rather than increasing pile diameter.

The anchor plays a very important role in gravity retaining wall. The displacement of retaining and soil pressure distribution with anchor is different from that without anchor. The numerical simulation software FLAC3D is used to analysis the soil pressure distribution characteristics of gravity retaining wall. The results show that the anchor plays a supporting role in gravity retaining wall. There is a critical length in the anchor in gravity retaining wall. The soil pressure distribution of gravity retaining wall with anchor does not conform to the classical Coulomb linear distribution theory and more research is needed for the soil pressure distribution theory. The research has important guiding significance on the design and construction development of gravity retaining wall.

Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) modules are a new type of photovoltaic (PV) modules that are widely used in distributed PV stations on the roof of buildings for power generation. Due to the high installation location, BIPV modules suffer from lightning hazard greatly. In order to evaluate the risk of lightning stroke and consequent damage to BIPV modules, the studies on the lightning attachment characteristics and the lightning energy withstand capability are conducted, respectively, based on numerical and experimental methods in this paper. In the study of lightning attachment characteristics, the numerical simulation results show that it is easier for the charges to concentrate on the upper edge of the BIPV metal frame. Therefore, the electric field strength at the upper edge is enhanced to emit upward leaders and attract the lightning downward leaders. The conclusion is verified through the long-gap discharge experiment in a high voltage lab. From the experimental study of multi-discharge in the lab, it is found that the lightning interception efficiency of the BIPV module is improved by 114% compared with the traditional PV modules. In the study of lightning energy withstand capability, a thermoelectric coupling model is established. With this model, the potential, current and temperature can be calculated in the multi-physical field numerical simulation. The results show that the maximum temperature of the metal frame increases by 16.07 °C when 100 kA lightning current flows through it and does not bring any damage to the PV modules. The numerical results have a good consistency with the experimental study results obtained from the 100 kA impulse current experiment in the lab.
