This paper through the body-in-white model test got each order modal natural frequency, vibration mode, damping about this body-in-white. At the same time, on the basis of the test, analyzing the influence about windshield condition of each order modal parameters. Study shows that the low-frequency dynamic characters of the body-in-white is better, to improve local modal properties, increase the windshield on the body-in-white modal characteristic has certain strengthen.

Modal of the gantry crane is developed by system point of view, Simulation model of the gantry crane system based on ANSYS is established, and each mode of the systems natural frequency and vibration mode were obtained. The dynamic characteristics of the system is evaluated, provide an important modal parameters for Gantry crane system architecture to optimize the design and stability analysis.

The paper carries out the finite modal analysis of a Semi-trailer frame and obtains the modal parameters such as frame natural frequency and vibration mode. It also compares the modal analysis results with the excitation frequency effect caused by the road on the frame, the conclusion supports a reference to improve the frame design.

The hydraulic long-straight pipeline system of the shield machine is to be studied in this paper. Modal parameters of the hydraulic long-straight pipeline whose length is 8m under three kinds of spans (single span, double spans and four spans) were measured and analyzed. Considering the inherent vibration characteristics of the shield machine, we limited the natural frequency of the multi-span long straight pipeline studied within the range of 0~ 200Hz.What the experiment shows is as follows: Firstly, the natural frequency of the hydraulic long-straight pipeline is densely distributed mainly in the low frequency; Secondly, the natural frequencies of vibration in the horizontal plane are slightly higher than those of corresponding orders in the vertical plane, although the difference is little; In addition, by increasing the number of supports, pipeline span can be reduced and the natural frequencies of pipeline can be significantly increased, but this will make the vibration mode change irregularly.

In the viper boa (Candoia aspera), the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shows two stable overlapping patterns of pulsations: low-frequency (0.08 Hz) pulses with a mean amplitude of 4.1 mmHg that correspond to the ventilatory cycle, and higher-frequency (0.66 Hz) pulses with a mean amplitude of 1.2 mmHg that correspond to the cardiac cycle. Manual oscillations of anesthetized C. aspera induced propagating sinusoidal body waves. These waves resulted in a different pattern of CSF pulsations with frequencies corresponding to the displacement frequency of the body and with amplitudes greater than those of the cardiac or ventilatory cycles. After recovery from anesthesia, the snakes moved independently using lateral undulation and concertina locomotion. The episodes of lateral undulation produced similar influences on the CSF pressure as were observed during the manual oscillations, though the induced CSF pulsations were of lower amplitude during lateral undulation. No impact on the CSF was found while C. aspera was performing concertina locomotion. The relationship between the propagation of the body and the CSF pulsations suggests that the body movements produce an impulse on the spinal CSF.

Mooring line damping plays an important role to the body motion of moored floating platforms. Meanwhile, it can also make contributions to optimize the mooring line system. Accurate assessment of mooring line damping is thus an essential issue for offshore structure design. However, it is difficult to determine the mooring line damping based on theoretical methods. This study considers the parameters which have impact on mooring-induced damping. In the paper, applying Morison formula to calculate the drag and initial force on the mooring line, its dynamic response is computed in the time domain. The energy dissipation of the mooring line due to the viscosity was used to calculate mooring-induced damping. A mooring line is performed with low-frequency oscillation only, the low-frequency oscillation superimposed with regular and irregular wave-frequency motions. In addition, the influences of current velocity, mooring line pretension and different water depths are taken into account.

The Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF) technique has widely being used by oceanographers and meteorologists, while the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD being a related technique is frequently used in the statistics community. Another related technique called Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is observed being used for instance in pattern recognition. The predominant applications of these techniques are data compression of multivariate data sets which also facilitates subsequent statistical analysis of such data sets. Within Ocean Engineering the EOF technique is not yet widely in use, although there are several areas where multivariate data sets occur and where the EOF technique could represent a supplementary analysis technique. Examples are oceanographic data, in particular current data. Furthermore data sets of model- or full-scale data of loads and responses of slender bodies, such as pipelines and risers are relevant examples. One attractive property of the EOF technique is that it does not require any a priori information on the physical system by which the data is generated. In the present paper a description of the EOF technique is given. Thereafter an example on use of the EOF technique is presented. The example is analysis of response data from a model test of a pipeline in a long free span exposed to current. The model test program was carried out in order to identify the occurrence of multi-mode vibrations and vibration mode amplitudes. In the present example the EOF technique demonstrates the capability of identifying predominant vibration modes of inline as well as cross-flow vibrations. Vibration mode shapes together with mode amplitudes and frequencies are also estimated. Although the present example is not sufficient for concluding on the applicability of the EOF technique on a general basis, the results of the present example demonstrate some of the potential of the technique.

Human body surface vibration induced by low-frequency noise was measured at the forehead, the chest and the abdomen. At the same time, subjects rated their vibratory sensation at each of these locations. The relationship between the measured vibration on the body surface and the rated vibratory sensation was examined, revealing that the vibratory sensations perceived in the chest and abdomen correlated closely with the vibration acceleration levels of the body surface vibration. This suggested that a person exposed to low-frequency noise perceives vibration at the chest or abdomen by sensing the mechanical vibration that the noise induces in the body. At the head, on the other hand, it was found that the vibratory sensation correlated comparably with the vibration acceleration level of the body surface vibration and the sound pressure level of the noise stimulus. This finding suggested that the mechanism of perception of vibration in the head is different from that of the perception of vibratory sensation in the chest and the abdomen.

When a bubble detaches from a nozzle immersed in water, a sound is emitted owing to the detachment. The bubble deformation and sound emission generated after detachment has been investigated in many studies, in which the breathing mode with a natural frequency was discussed based on the dynamics of the interface between the air and water. In this study, the deformation of a bubble was observed, and the sound emitted upon detachment was measured experimentally. To analyze the bubble deformation process, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was conducted using the volume of fluid (VOF) method to predict the sound emission. In the analysis, the deformation behavior, the oscillation frequencies, sound pressure, and radius variation were discussed by comparing the numerical and experimental data. Furthermore, the natural frequency and low frequency vibrations were discussed based on the interference between the detached bubbles and the air column vibrations.

Modal identification aims at identifying the dynamic properties including natural frequency, damping ratio, and mode shape, which is an important step in further structural damage detection, finite element model updating, and condition assessment. This paper presents the work on the investigation of the dynamic characteristics of a long-span cable-stayed bridge-Sutong Bridge by a Bayesian modal identification method. Sutong Bridge is the second longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, situated on the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, China, with a total length of 2 088[Formula: see text]m. A short-term nondestructive on-site vibration test was conducted to collect the structural response and determine the actual dynamic characteristics of the bridge before it was opened to traffic. Due to the limited number of sensors, multiple setups were designed to complete the whole measurement. Based on the data collected in the field tests, modal parameters were identified by a fast Bayesian FFT method. The first three modes in both vertical and transverse directions were identified and studied. In order to obtain modal parameter variation with temperature and vibration levels, long-term tests have also been performed in different seasons. The variation of natural frequency and damping ratios with temperature and vibration level were investigated. The future distribution of the modal parameters was also predicted using these data.

Concept FE models of the vehicle structure are often used to optimize it in terms of static and dynamic stiffness, as they are parametric and computationally inexpensive. On the other hand they introduce modeling errors with respect to their detailed FE equivalents due to the simplifications made. Even worse, the link between the concept and the detailed FE model can be sometimes lost after optimization. The aim of this paper is to present and validate an alternative optimization approach that uses the detailed FE model of the vehicle body-in-white instead of its concept representation. Structural modifications of this model were applied in two different ways — by local joint modifications and by using mesh morphing techniques. The first choice was motivated by the strong influence of the structural joints on the global vehicle performance. For this type of modification the plate thicknesses of the most influent car body joints were changed. In the second case the overall car dimensions were modified. The drawback of using detailed FE models of the vehicle body is that they can be times bigger than their concept counterparts and can thus require considerably more time for structural analysis. To make the approach proposed in this work a feasible alternative for optimization in the concept phase response surface models were introduced. With them the global static and dynamic performance of the body-in-white was represented by means of approximating polynomials. Optimization on such mathematical models is fast, so the choice of the optimization algorithm is not limited only among local-search strategies. In the current study Genetic Algorithm was used to increase the chances for finding better design alternatives. Two different optimization problems were defined and solved. Their final solutions were presented and compared in terms of structural modifications and resulting responses. The approach in this paper can be successfully used in the concept phase as it is fast and reliable and at the same time it avoids the problems typical for concept models.
