Along with the rapid development of today's society, all sorts of wastes produced from human life and production are discharged into the natural environment, so that a certain impact has been exerted on air, soil, lakes, and oceans. The wastes discharged into the natural environment not only contain some toxic substances and various compounds difficult to degrade, but also are with the characteristics of strong acid, strong alkali, high temperature, and high salinity, so that the general microorganisms are hard to survive in this environment. However, there are some extreme microorganisms to gradually fit the environment in the process of evolution, and the microorganisms include alkalophilic bacteria, basophilic bacteria, halophilic bacteria, etc. Halophilic bacteria grow mainly in sea and salt lake, and also have unique physiological features, while the application of high-salinity microbes to the disposal of salt-contained wastewater is of a broad prospect and an important social value. In this paper, the isolation and identification of microorganism in a high-salinity environment and their application to the disposal of salt-contained wastewater are mainly analyzed.

Indole acetic acid is a natural phytohormone which influence the root and shoot growth of the plants. Six (GM1-GM6) endosymbiotic bacteria are isolated from Gracilaria corticata and screened for the production of IAA out of six, three bacterial strains GM3, GM5 and GM6 produced significant amount of IAA 102.4 µg/ml 89.40 µg/ml 109.43 µg/ml respectively. Presence of IAA in culture filtrate of the above strains is further analyzed and confirmed by TLC. As these bacterial strains, able to tolerate the high salinity these can be effectively used as PGR to increase the crop yield in saline soils.

An event, in human life, can be an inspiration for writing a story. Discharging of wastes and toxic pollutants produced by the industrial activities into the natural environment which consist of air, water and land implies the term Industrial Pollution. It has serious consequences on human life and its health along with several ways of negative impacts on the environment and nature. As far as our nation is concerned most of the major cities are filled with these large-scale industries which place a crucial role financial development of a country. Strictly hindering the development of industries cannot be done as it is vital for the Socio-Economic progress of a country. Yet it is our duty to protect our natural environment by limiting the pollution due to industries. This Study consist of the issues occurred in Eloor- Kadungalloor region as result of the industrial pollution followed by policies for a development plan to enhance the natural and environmental conditions with a planning approach at micro study level. As far as the Kerala context is considered, the major spot which is mostly affected by the industrial pollution is the ‘Edayar Industrial belt’ which is the largest industrial belt in Kerala. This became one of most noted spot because of the continuous dumping of dangerous chemical pollutants from adjacent industries (pesticide and fertilizer manufacturing). It has also resulted in health issues for the inhabitants of the site. Though many complaints have been filed against the companies, there has no proper laws or schemes for taking measures for reduction of pollution have come up so far. Hence this paper deals with the application of technical solutions and strategies for an Environment Improvement plan development for an industrial as well as studying on the issues of sire and its inhabitants.

The rapid development of modern biomedicine creates both hopes for solving global problems of humanity, and risks associated with the enormous potential of its impact on human nature. In this regard, the processes of development and application of biomedical technologies need timely and adequate legal regulation that defines the boundaries of biotechnological intervention in human life. This publication is devoted to the theoretical development of general legal approaches to the essence, content, social orientation and the main industry features of the regulation of relations in the field of biomedicine, which would allow to form a special legal regulation in this area. For researchers, teachers, postgraduates, students, practicing lawyers, employees of public authorities.

With the rapid development of computer science and information and communication technology (ICT), increasingly intelligent, and complex systems have been applied to industries as well as human life. Fault-tolerant control (FTC) has, therefore, become one of the most important topics attracting attention from both engineers and researchers to maintain system performances when faults occur. The ultimate goal of this study was to develop a sensor fault-tolerant control (SFTC) to enhance the robust position tracking control of a class of electro-hydraulic actuators called mini motion packages (MMPs), which are widely used for applications requiring large force-displacement ratios. First, a mathematical model of the MMP system is presented, which is then applied in the position control process of the MMP system. Here, a well-known proportional, integrated and derivative (PID) control algorithm is employed to ensure the positional response to the reference position. Second, an unknown input observer (UIO) is designed to estimate the state vector and sensor faults using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization algorithm. Then an SFTC is used to deal with sensor faults of the MMP system. The SFTC is formed of the fault detection and the fault compensation with the goal of determining the location, time of occurrence, and magnitude of the faults in the fault signal compensation process. Finally, numerical simulations were run to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed approach compared to traditional tracking control.

A meeting was held at the University of British Columbia on May 28–29, 1990 to honour the many important scientific contributions made by Dr. Hugh McLennan to our understanding of chemical neurotransmission in the brain and spinal cord. The invited speakers were those with whom Dr. McLennan has at one time or another collaborated, and their presentations reflected Hugh's early interest in GÀBA (factor I) as an inhibitory transmitter and his research over the last two decades into the physiology and pharmacology of acidic amino acid receptors. The session on GABA opened with an intriguing discussion by Professor Florey of the history of the isolation and identification of GABA as a neurotransmitter and was followed by papers dealing with the electrophysiological actions of GABA. Professor Curtis discussed its pre- and post-synaptic actions in the spinal cord, while Dr. Mathers presented data derived from GABA-gated chloride channels isolated from cultured neurones. Professor Krnjević was unfortunately unable to attend the symposium.Work presented by Professors Watkins and Lodge and Dr. Curry provided an excellent historical perspective on the birth and rapid development of excitatory amino acid pharmacology, a field to which Dr. McLennan has contributed enormously.Among the topics pertaining to the electrophysiological actions of acidic amino acids was the role of the NMDA receptor both in long-term potentiation (Dr. Collingridge) and in synaptic transmission in the kainic acid-lesioned hippocampus (Dr. Wheal), the effects of antagonists on synaptic transmission in the thalamus (Dr. Hicks), and the modulation by catecholamines of glutamate-induced neuronal excitations (Dr. Marshall). In his closing address Dr. McLennan, with characteristic grace and style, acknowledged the efforts of his co-workers in his many achievements. Those of us who have had the great pleasure of collaborating with Hugh here at UBC or within the scientific community wish him all the best in his retirement.

The goals of this study were to isolate microorganisms from oil well-produced water, identify the microorganisms, and test the microorganisms’ salt tolerance. Saltwater collected from two well locations producing from different zones in Jones County, Texas, was spread onto Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA). Isolates showed a 16S rDNA gene sequence identity of 99% with Idiomarina baltica and Marinobacter persicus. Salt tolerance assays indicated an optimal growth concentration of 10-12.5% NaCl for the Idiomarina isolate and a decrease in growth beyond 5% NaCl for the Marinobacter isolate. In conclusion, organisms that are phylogenetically similar to marine microorganisms are present in oil well environments, and have variable salt tolerances, which may prove useful in microbialmediated hydrocarbon bioremediation of high salinity environments.
