Instrument discovery as defined by the LXI standard implements the VXI-11 instrument discovery protocol. This mechanism allows the user to quickly discover instruments on a local subnet. The paper describes how to implement the auto-discovery RPC server compatible with LXI standard. For better understanding auto discovery process, it starts by introducing the VXI-11 protocol stack and follows with the deep analysis of auto discovery process. Finally, it discusses how to implement the RPC server. The RPC server supports both windows XP and windows CE operating system. The auto-discovery RPC server passes the tests on the Elgar LXI Browser, Agilent IO Library Suite and NI Measurement and Automation Explorer.

In this paper, a soft CNCS (Computerized Numerical Control System) works on Windows-XP operating system is presented. The comparison between soft CNC and traditional CNC system is discussed. The structure of soft CNC system is introduced as follow. The realizations of each real time module, such as real time path planning and interpolation, real time close-loop controller, real time safety detection, are introduced in detail. The real time tasks are based on a real time kernel. In the end, an application of the soft CNC system is realized on a 3-axis milling machine. The machining result shows it works well.

As the key technologies such as wireless communication, sensor continues to mature, wireless sensor networks has become a domestic and foreign focus of research in the field of wireless networks. The main work of the thesis is to implement ZigBee wireless sensor networking, using open source protocol FreakZ On the base of existing hardware. WSN hardware node consists of 32-bit microprocessor STM32F102CB based on ARM Cortex-M3 kernel and AT86RF212 radio transceiver; the software platform uses a lightweight multi-tasking operating system Contiki and open source protocol stack called FreakZ following ZigBee protocol specification, for networking wireless networks nodes. The paper presents the system architecture of WSN networking and its hardware components, software architecture and data transmission and reception processes of the networks. Using FreakZ protocol stack under the Contiki operating system on the base of the existing hardware platform, the network nodes information and topology displayed on the HyperTerminal indicates the success of WSN networking by using FreakZ protocol.

This chapter introduces the enormous impact of mobile computing on both companies and individuals. Companies face many issues related to mobile computing. For example: which devices will be supported by the organization? which devices will fulfill the business objectives? which form factor will win? which features and networks will future devices offer? which operating systems will they run? what will all this cost? what are the security issues involved? what are the business drivers? This chapter will discuss the major business drivers in the mobile computing field, and provide an analysis of the top two operating systems that are currently running the majority of mobile devices. These platforms are the 1) Palm operating system (OS), and 2) Microsoft Windows CE operating system. The chapter will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each operating system and discuss market share and future growth.

This paper describes the management of an induction (asynchronous) motor using PLC and VSD. For the realization of the practical part of this paper Schneider Electric equipment was used, which makes a complete system that is used in Natron Hayat d.o.o Maglaj, where this experiment was done. For this paper, a Schneider Zelio PLC was used, which with the aid of a 5.5 kW Schneider Altivar ATV312HU55N4 modulator (frequency transformer), managed the work of a 5.5 kW induction motor at speed of 1500 RPM. Managing controls were given for HP mobile working stations, where Windows XP operating system with SCADA software from DAQFactory was installed. The link used between the working stations and the PLC was Ethernet (Modbus TCP/IP).

Despite decades of research in extensible operating system technology, extensions such as device drivers remain a significant cause of system failures. In Windows XP, for example, drivers account for 85% of recently reported failures. This chapter presents Nooks, a layered architecture for tolerating the failure of drivers within existing operating system kernels. The design consists techniques for isolating drivers from the kernel and for recovering from their failure. Nooks isolates drivers from the kernel in a lightweight kernel protection domain, a new protection mechanism. By executing drivers within a domain, the kernel is protected from their failure and cannot be corrupted. Shadow drivers recover from device driver failures. Based on a replica of the driver’s state machine, a shadow driver conceals the driver’s failure from applications and restores the driver’s internal state to a point where it can process requests as if it had never failed. Thus, the entire failure and recovery is transparent to applications.

According to the characteristic of abounding use of digital information in the domain of maintenance of equipment, design a sort of PMA system which is high efficient, low dissipative and convenient to operate. The system is consisted of free scale i.MX51 embedded microprocessor, that its core is the newest ARM Cortex-A8 chip, and Windows CE operating system. Therefore, it achieved various functions, such as interactive query of IETM, sampling video and audio information, analysis fault, downloading and examining the maintained tasks and records

Aim at the demand of analytical automation of sampling pretreatment, we designed an automatic sampling system which used ARM9 for microprocessor. The system designed in this paper is based on the processor of S3C2440 and the Windows CE operating system, and completed the work of programming in Visual Studio 2005. It uses stepping motors and precision pump as implementing agencies, and TA8435H as the stepping motor’s driver, uses LCD touch screen as human-computer interface. We accomplished software development in a customized Windows CE6.0 operating system. The paper mainly makes the detailed introduction to this system’s hardware platform design and software design based on WINCE embedded operation system.
