Public–private partnerships (PPPs) in education are presented as capable of resolving several issues of education provision, financing, management, access and quality. This paper aimed at analyzing the impact of PPPs on access to and quality of higher education in Tanzania. Secondary research was used to gather data and critical review of the data and its analysis made. The focus of the paper was on higher education financing and on private higher education institutions. The findings indicated that PPPs have had a positive impact on increasing access to Tanzania higher education. However, although private universities and university colleges are many in number, enrolment has continued to be higher in public universities. It was further noted that an increase in higher learning institutions and subsequent increase in access to higher education has not meant an improvement in the quality of education provided by the institutions. As such, PPPs have had no significant impact on the improvement of quality of education. This is mainly accounted for by the number and qualifications held by academic members of staff in private universities, the infrastructure as well as the programmes they offer.

Comparatively, the American University of Nigeria Yola was established as the first private university in northern region 4 years later. Two years after, another four universities emerged namely Al-hakima University Ilorin, Al-Qalam University Katsina, Bingham University Karu Abuja, and Kwararafa University Wukari Taraba State. As of December, 2020, there are 16 private universities in the northern region with 11 at north-central, 3 in the northwest, and 2 in the northeast against 63 in the entire southern region comprasing three goe-politcal zones as well. This study intends to critically analyze the trend of these development to identify strategies, practices, and lessons learned between both regions for the spirit of educational development. Consequently, this study revealed the issues and difficulties in promoting private higher education include lack of awareness, lack of human resources, and cost of running in the country as a whole. Purpose A successful education system is a great asset for any society. However, what factors make an academic institution successful and how these factors interact with each other are not clear in literature. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to develop and validate a model that explains success of private universities which entails clarification on theoretical understanding and explains the relationships among relevant variables. Design/methodology/approach Variables from information systems success models and marketing theories have been adapted in the context of private universities to theorize a conceptual model. In order to validate the model, this study employed quantitative approach. Survey data, collected from 326 respondents, were analysed using partial least squares algorithm. Findings The results suggest that: “curriculum quality”, “teaching competence”, “service facility”, and “service delivery” provided by a private university are positively related to “perceived value (PV)”, while students’ perceived satisfaction (SPS) is dependent on “service facility”; PV and SPS drive to students’ “intention for continued education (ICE)”, and ICE eventually improves quality of students’ lives. Additionally, PV and SPS are interrelated. The mediating roles of PV and SPS are also identified. Research limitations/implications Empirical data analyses confirm that improving quality of life through continued education represents an insightful theoretical lens for investigating success in higher education. To become successful in education business, maintaining both academic quality and service quality are important for a private university because they lead to student satisfaction and the overall PV of education. Originality/value This study is the first initiative that develops and validates a success model of private universities. The findings provide some guidelines for top managers in higher education to maximize their abilities to understand customers’ expectations in both strategic and operational settings.

The purpose of this study is to explore the existing relationship among the quality of university efforts (teacher efforts and management efforts), the willingness of students to learn and customer satisfaction in order to ensure epistemological access to higher education in private universities of Pakistan. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 339 students studying in three different faculties of a private university. It was aimed to collect their responses regarding their experiences at the campus about purposeful access to available resources and to measure their satisfaction level with the provided access. The data was collected through multistage sampling. It was found that there is a positive correlation among teacher efforts for epistemological access (TEEA), management efforts for epistemological access (MEEA), and customer satisfaction (CS); whereas, TEEA, MEEA, and CS are negatively correlated with student willingness (SW). It was also found that SW does not act as a mediator between UEQ and CS. The study contributes in the existing literature by accentuating the need for epistemological access by enhancing the willingness of students to learn and by providing quality university efforts to translate academic experiences into successful opportunities in the future.

The paper discuss possibility to implement Deming’s 14 points into Russian higher education, taking into account partially online development. The majority of these points can be used to improve the quality of higher education. However, there are many legal restrictions to public education that result in specific, measurable results that do not fully implement Deming’s theories. Therefore, private universities have more potential to improve their quality then government schools. This fact explains the popularity of additional or professional courses in Russia as a substitute for regular education.
