ZnS thin films were deposited at three different radios of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4) on glass substrates by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method without stirring the deposition bath during the deposition process. The structural and optical properties were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The results showed that ZnS thin film deposited at the radio of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4)=15:15 is higher than that of the other two different solutions. With the radio of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4) decreasing from 15:5 to 15:15, homogenous precipitation of Zn (OH)2easily forms in the bath, but ZnS precipitation first become suppressed and then easily forms in solution. It means that the concentration of OH-ion increases with the volume of N2H4increasing, which accelerates the formation of Zn (OH)2. However, when the volume of N2H4increases to 15mL, relatively high concentration of OH-ion not only accelerates the formation of Zn (OH)2, but also be used to the hydrolysis of thiourea. The average transmissions of all the ZnS films from three different solutions (V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4)=15:5, 15:10 and 15:15) are greater than 90% for wavelength values in visible region. The direct band gaps range from 3.80 to 4.0eV. The ZnS film deposited for 2.5h with the radio of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4)=15:15 has the cubic structure only after single deposition.

The present work deals with the preparation and characterization of cadmium sulfur (CdS) thin films. These films are prepared by chemical bath deposition on the well cleaned glass substrates. The thickness of the samples was measured by using profilometer DEKTAK, structural and optical properties were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis, and UV-visible spectrophotometry. The optical properties of the films have been investigated as a function of temperature. The band gap energy and Urbach energy were also investigated as a function of temperature. From the transmittance data analysis the direct band gap ranges from 2.21 eV to 2.34 eV. A dependence of band gap on temperature has been observed and the possible raisons are discussed. Transmission spectra indicates a high transmission coefficient (75 %). Structural analysis revealed that the films showed cubic structure, and the crystallite size decreased at a higher deposition temperature.

Thin films of Sb2S3 and CdI2 composites were deposited by thermal vapor deposition method on a glass substrate. The structural and optical properties have been investigated as a function of the film thickness. Three samples were deposited with thickness of 160[Formula: see text]nm, 210[Formula: see text]nm and 380[Formula: see text]nm. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–visible (UV–Vis) absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The XRD result confirms the orthorhombic structure of Sb2S3 peaks. The bigger crystals are formed with the increase of the thickness of the film. The band gaps of the deposited composite thin films were found to be in range 2.17–1.48[Formula: see text]eV and suggest the possibility of band gap tunability in the visible region with the changing the thickness of the film. The PL study reveals the intense emission due to band to band recombination with emission in the red region corresponding to trap states.

In this work, the effect of substrate temperature on structural and optical properties of V2O5 thin films has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD); SEM and transmission. The films mince has been prepared by Reactive Chemical Spraying technology in Liquid Phase (RCSLP) on glass substrates preheated at (350, 400, 450 and 500 °C). The X-ray diffraction analysis confirms that all layers are polycrystalline, and the preferred orientation of V2O5 is the (001) plane. The morphology of V2O5 thin films are porous nature and their particle’s shape is three-dimensional. The transmittance and absorbance of thin film were measured from which the optical constants (Energy gap, Refractive index, Absorption coefficient, Extinction coefficient and Optical dielectric constant) were determined.

Nanocrystalline ZnS thin films were deposited on glass substrates at 300W and 0.6Pa by using radio frequency magnetron sputtering, and then annealed at different temperatures. This work investigated the influence of ZnS buffer layer on different annealing temperature, analysed structural, surface topography, and optical properties of ZnS films by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-spectroscopy measurements and scanning electronic microscope (SEM) analysis techniques. Findings showed that the film annealed at 300°C was uniformity and compact, which was zinc blende cubic structure. The film exhibited the optical transparency as high as 85% in the visible region, and its optical band gap was calculated to be 3.56 eV.

In this work, the effects of Fe/Ni co-doping on structural and optical properties of TiO2 thin films were investigated by the X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and UV-visible spectroscopy. The optical properties of transmittance, extinction coefficient, refractive index, real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant of the thin films, prepared by spray pyrolysis, revealed that the absorption in visible region increases due to the influence of Fe/Ni co-doping. The widening of the gap energies is observed as a result of doping. The increased optical gap as a consequence of doping can be explained by decreasing the size of nanoparticles, as confirmed by SEM and increasing the formation of oxygen vacancies as a result of Ni[Formula: see text] substitution to Ti[Formula: see text] and appearance of the Burstein–Moss effect.

Zinc sulfide thin films were deposited on optical glass substrates by using chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique that contain solutions of thiourea, zinc acetate, ammonia and sodium citrate. The deposition time were varied from 18 hours to 39 hours. SEM, XRD, and UV-Vis-NIR were used to characterize the sample which shows that the films are thicker and the grains sizes are bigger as the deposition time increases. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern prove that ZnS thin films are in disordered since it does not revealing any peaks and the surface of ZnS thin films are amorphous. UV-Vis spectra showed that the deposited ZnS thin films have more than 100% transmittance in the visible region and direct band gap of deposited films are in range of 2.45 eV to 3.53 eV. Time increasing of deposition will slightly decrease the transmittance of the film.

In this work, ZnO thin films grown on heated glass substrates in a temperature range of 300 to 500 °C with a 50°C step. The prepared solution is composed of methanol and zinc acetate Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O. ZnO thin films are deposited by pyrolysis spray technique, our work focuses on the study of the substrate temperature influence on the structural and optical properties of these layers. Therefore, The X-ray diffraction, showed a Wurtzit hexagonal structure of elaborated films, with (002) as a preferred orientation, and a grain size of 64 to 74 nm. The optical transmission spectroscopy UV-Visible, illustrated an increase of optical band gap from 3.19 to 3.25 eV, proportionally with the substrate temperature.

Optical properties and microstructures of Mg(Zr0.05Ti0.95)O3 thin films prepared by sol-gel method on ITO/glass substrates at different amount of chelating agents and annealing temperatures have been investigated. The relative intensity ratio values of the peak Mg(Zr0.05Ti0.95)O3 thin films, secondary phase of MgTi2O5 and grain growth were depended on the amount of chelating agents and annealing temperature. In the optical transmission spectra, the Mg(Zr0.05Ti0.95)O3 thin films present high transparency (over 60%) in the visible region of the spectrum. The dependence of the optical properties and microstructure characteristics on thermal treatment was also investigated.

Cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films with (111) preferential orientation were grown on glass substrates at room temperature by radio frequency (R.F.) magnetron sputtering. The structural and optical properties of CdS films have been investigated by X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscope micrographs, PL spectra and transmittance spectra. The grain sizes have been evaluated. The transmission spectra of the obtained films reveal a relatively high transmission coefficient (80%) in the visible range. All these results show that the grain sizes increased while the optical band gap decreased with increasing the thickness of CdS films.
