Iron Filings (IF) and brick powder (BP) waste materials taken from steel workshops and factories and demolition of buildings respectively .create serious environmental problems ,so the main aim of this paper is to estimate the potency of employing the mixing of waste materials (Iron Filings and brick-powder) altogether as partly replace of cement and the fine-aggregate respectively in the composition of concrete which were mixed with a ratio of (1:2:4) and (W/C) ratio equal to (0.45). In this study the cement has been replaced by Iron Filings in the proportion of ( 10%, 20%,30 %and 40%) and fine aggregate replaced by waste brick powder in the proportion of (0%,5%,10%, and 15%) by weight of concrete mix simultaneously. In this paper, the split tensile strength , the compressive strength and flexural strength of the concretes mixtures were specified. The main results of this paper appeared that the (cement and sand) can be partially replaced by ( Iron Filings and brick-powder) in the concrete mixture and it has achieved the optimum percentage of replacement by (30%IF+10%BP). So the utilization of solid waste is required in an attempt to equilibrate between the construction request and environmental sustainability and as well as saving landfill space.

Due to rapid industrialization extensive quantity of waste materials like fly ash, silica fume, rice ash husk, and ferrochrome ash etc. are generated. Ferrochrome ash is generated from Ferro-alloy industry and fly-ash is produced in thermal power plants are alternative materials which have the potential of being utilized in concrete as a mineral admixture. The present investigation considers the combined influence on strength of concrete using various percentage fly ash and ferrochrome ash as partial replacement of cement. Experiments are carried out to get mechanical properties of ordinary Portland cement by replacement of fly ash by 10%, 20%, 30 % and 3% by ferrochrome ash. Mechanical properties are measured by determining compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength. It can be inferred from the study that a small amount of ferrochrome ash mixed with 30 % fly-ash gives higher compressive strength as compared to fly ash alone. Addition of ferrochrome ash also increases the split tensile strength of concrete. Since ferrochrome ash and fly-ash are both industrial waste, utilization of these waste materials reduced the burden of dumping and greenhouse gas and thereby produce sustainable concrete.

Concrete is a material commonly used for structural work. However, concrete has one disadvantage, namely that its specific gravity is high enough so that the dead load on a structure becomes large. One way to deal with high concrete density is to use Styrofoam waste as a substitute for some of the fine aggregate. This research was conducted to examine the physical and mechanical properties as well as the optimum value of compressive strength, split tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of concrete with a 0.4 fas using Styrofoam as a partial substitute for fine aggregate. The research method used is an experimental method by making the test object in the form of a concrete cylinder with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 30 cm. The composition of the concrete mixture used is a volume ratio of 1 Pc: 2 Ps: 2 Kr with a fas 0.4. The styrofoam variations used are 10%, 20%, and 30% of the ratio to the volume of fine aggregate in normal concrete mixtures. Testing of the mechanical properties of concrete was carried out at the age of 7, 14, 21, and 28 days for the concrete compressive strength test, and 28 days for the split tensile strength of the concrete, and the modulus of elasticity. The results showed that the compressive strength of the concrete increased with the age of the concrete and the addition of the styrofoam variations with the exception of the 10% variation. For the split tensile strength test, there was an increase in line with the increase in the styrofoam variation, while the modulus of elasticity decreased at 10% variation against 0% variation and increased at 20% and 30% variation with 0% variation.

In this study, the effect of using crumb rubber and recycled aggregates on the mechanical properties of concrete has been evaluated as areplacement of fine and coarse aggregates In order to add the admixtures and evaluate their combined effect, 20 different types of concrete mixture ratio were prepared. The results indicated that in those samples containing crumb rubber and recycled aggregates the compressive strength is reduced and adding fiber up to 0.1%. to these concrete samples can improve the compressive strength Also, the tensile strength of the samples mixed with crumb rubber and recycled aggregates were decreased, and with the addition of propylene fiber up to 0.4%. the tensile strength slightly increased Moreover by adding the crumb rubber to the samples the elasticity modulus was reduced but by adding fiber to samples about 0.1% and 0.2.% the modulus of elasticity of concrete in all samples were increased. According to the results, it can be said that using the combination of 5% of crumb rubber as a replacement of fine aggregate, and the combination of 35% of recycled aggregates as a replacement of coarse aggregate, and also by adding 0.1% polypropylene fiber in volumetric percentage of concrete along with adding 7% of micro silica as a replacement of cement led to the best effect on the mechanical properties of concrete.

Concrete is a widely used material in all construction work. The aim of the project is to study the behavior of concrete with replacement of E waste. The fine aggregate and coarse aggregate are naturally available due to increase in demand it is over exploited. The waste utilization is sustainable solution to environmental problems Waste from electric and electronic equipment is used as an E waste replacement for coarse aggregate in concrete which is used in the construction .Therefore the effects have been made to study the use of E waste components as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate in 5%, 10% and 15%. To determine the optimum percentage of E waste that can be replaced for coarse aggregate the compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete to be studied. After determining the optimum percentage of E waste that can be replaced with coarse aggregate. The comparison of the conventional and optimum percentage of E waste replaced with concrete has been done

In recent years, with the rapid development of the construction industry, the demand for natural river sand has become increasingly prominent. Development of alternatives to river sand has become an interesting direction for concrete research. In this paper, coal gangue was proposed to replace part of the river sand to produce coal gangue fine aggregate concrete, while waste polyethene terephthalate (PET) bottles were used as raw materials to make PET fibers to improve the mechanical properties of coal gangue fine aggregate concrete. There were two parts of the test conducted. In the first part, the compressive strength of the gangue fine aggregate concrete cube, splitting tensile strength, axial compressive strength, and static elastic modulus were studied when the substitution rate of coal gangue increased from 0% to 50%. Referring to the equation of the full stress-strain curve of plain concrete, the stress-strain constitutive equation of coal gangue fine aggregate concrete was analyzed and studied. By comparing with plain concrete, it was found that the coal gangue concrete with a replacement rate of 50% had higher compressive strength and tensile strength, but its brittleness was significantly greater than that of plain concrete in the later stage. In the second part, by studying the effect of different PET fiber content on the mechanical properties of coal gangue fine aggregate concrete with a replacement rate of 50%, it was found that when the addition of PET fiber was 0.1% and 0.3%, not only were compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, static elastic modulus, and flexural strength of the gangue fine aggregate concrete effectively improved but also the brittleness of concrete can be significantly reduced. The study found that after adding 0.3% PET fiber, the coal gangue fine aggregate concrete with a replacement rate of 50% has better mechanical properties and less brittleness.

This paper investigates the effect of nano-papyrus cane ash as an additive on concretes’ mechanical and physical properties. Three types of concrete mixtures, 1:2:4, 1:1.5:3, and 1:1:2 were prepared for each mixture, nano-papyrus ash was added in five different dosages of 0.75, 1.5, 3, 4.5, and 6% by weight of cement; therefore, eighteen mixes would be studied in this work. Physical properties represented by dry density and slump were also measured for each mix. Moreover, to evaluate the mechanical properties development split tensile strength and compressive strength were obtained at age (7 and 28). Results manifested that the adding of nano ash developed the compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete and the maximum enhancement recognized in the mixes with a content of 4.5% nano-papyrus in each studied mixture in this work. The slump test results indicated that the workability of concrete increased with adding nano-papyrus ash gradually with increasing nanoparticles' content. As well as, dry density was significant increased with nano-papyrus ratio; greater values were recorded in mixtures with 1.5-4.5% content of nano-papyrus. When comparing the concrete mixes used, it was found that the best results were obtained with 1:1:2 mixtures. This remarkable improvement in concrete properties considers the nano-papyrus is considered a cement economical and useful replacement for traditional construction material. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2021-03091649 Full Text: PDF

An attempt has been made in this paper to study the effect on the mechanical properties of the concrete and hollow concrete block when different types of fibres were added to the mix. The two different types of fibres added include Steel fibres with hooked end and of length 60mm at five different fibre ratios of 2.5%, 2.75%, 3.0%, 3.25% and 3.5% and Nylon fibres having a length of 18mm at the content of 0.5%, 0.75%, 1.0%, 1.25% and 1.50%. The concept of fibre hybridization was also analyzed and the effect was studied by preparing concrete mix with various percentage combinations of steel and nylon fibres at a total fibre ratio of 3% by weight of cement. The investigation focused on finding the optimum values of fibres to be added and also carried out the compressive strength and tensile strength of concrete with and without fibres. The compressive strength of hollow concrete blocks made with and without fibres was also analyzed. The samples of concrete and hollow concrete blocks were cast and immersed in water for a curing period of 28 days. The results on strength of fibre added concrete and hollow concrete block obtained was compared with the control mix result and the study concludes that the steel fibre and nylon fibre added concrete and hollow concrete block showed an improvement in the mechanical properties for each fibre ratio considered. Out of the various combinations of steel and nylon fibre tried, the best compressive strength improvement was exhibited by the concrete mix with 3% of the steel fibre without any addition of nylon fibres while the best tensile strength improvement was shown by the concrete mix with 2.25% of steel fibre and 0.75% of nylon fibre.
