Currently, there is a large amount of earth dams should be reinforced because of the running incessantly in a long period in our country. And the anti-seepage evaluation is an extremely critical and indispensable index to scrutinize the reinforcement effect of earth dam comprehensively. According to the real engineering conditions of the dam, the finite element seepage analysis method is used to compute the seepage characteristics in the Fengchan reservoir before and after the reinforcement in this paper. The results show that the effect of the anti-seepage system is well for adopting the concrete slope protection and concrete anti-seepage wall. The seepage state of foundation and dam body is improved evidently. The seepage gradient and seepage quantity of each material zone reduce significantly and meet the standard requirement of specification.

This paper is mainly concerned with the saturated-unsaturated seepage analysis of earth dams based on unsaturated soil theory and the stability analysis of earth dams based on conception of slices. At first, beginning basic seepage theory, thesis introduce the saturated-unsaturated and steady-unsteady seepage differential equation of porous media and the FEM regarding hydraulic pressure head as basic unknown quantity. Then considering the shear strength of unsaturated soil, the method of analysis of general limit equilibrium has been approved and it can be used in the analysis of the stability of saturated-unsaturated slopes. Through an example it is respectively discussed effects of seepage flow when water head is changed in earth dam and the effects of percolation in the stability of the earth dam slope. Some helpful conclusions are gained. This can be making the best of the tow methods and the results can be used in engineering for reference.

This paper analyzes the problems which exist in finite element calculations of the earth dam seepage which is free surface solution, cell subdivision improper, the transformation of the free surface boundary conditions and the permeability coefficient values at the interface of different materials, boundary conditions and other issues. Put forward the corresponding solution. Applies common general finite element software to calculate the seepage. Works in conjunction with a stable levee seepage analysis and get better results.

Abaqus finite element method and experimental study are carried out to research the silt embankment reinforced by sleeve valve barrel fracturing grouting method. Numerical model is determined based on the construction methods and mechanism, the calculation parameters are determined by experimental research. The displacement, force, and plastic are analyzed through comparative analysis of safety factor of attenuated embankment before and after reinforcement. The results show that the Reinforcement effect of sleeve valve barrel fracturing grouting method to stability attenuated roadbed is remarkable.

Purpose This study is an attempt to estimate the influence of the presence of cavities on the stability of slopes in earth dams under rapid drawdown conditions. The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of different factors, such as the diameter and location of cavities, in addition to their existence effects. Design/methodology/approach A series of finite element simulation models were developed using PLAXIS 2D finite element software to analyse the stability of slopes in earth dams while considering various effects from cavities in the subsoil under rapid drawdown conditions. Findings The results indicated that the presence of cavities and an increase in the diameter of cavities decreased the stability of the upstream face dramatically for all examined locations in a horizontal direction; however, this effect was less on the downstream side. The results also showed that variations in the location of cavities in the horizontal direction have a greater effect on the stability than those in the vertical direction. The results revealed that increasing shear strength parameters of embankment does not reduce the influence of cavities on stability when those cavities are in critical locations. Originality/value A numerical model has been developed to simulate the effects of cavities on the stability of slopes in water-retaining structures/earth dams. The stability of earth dam slopes on upstream and downstream sides under rapid drawdown conditions considering various cavity effects, including their existence, diameter and location, were numerically analysed.

Most dam seepage safety analyses evaluate a stable seepage field, infiltration line, and seepage flow. However, under fluctuating drought-flood conditions, the soil surface becomes cracked, making it too complicated to conduct a routine seepage analysis. In this paper, the seepage characteristics of an inclined wall dam under fluctuating drought-flood conditions were studied using a large-scale physical model. The results show that after drought, the permeability coefficient of clay with low crack development was smaller than that of the saturated permeability, but for cracked areas, with high permeability, permeability coefficients were much larger than those of the saturated permeability. As the water level rose, cracks could heal themselves, but this healing was superficial, and the soil could no longer return to its predrought state. After crack healing, the integrity of the dam slope was much less than its original state. In addition, the formation of cracks increased the porosity of the soil and changed the soil permeability, which permanently weakened the antiseepage performance of the clay soil. This study evaluated the seepage flow behavior of an inclined wall dam under fluctuating drought-flood conditions, and results can be used to monitor and protect the weak parts of seepage dams in practical engineering projects.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the impact of Janti Flyover Construction toward the growth of layout at Janti Urban Area, including structured space, open space, and linkage. Method used for data collecting are observation, air photograph monitoring, and interview, whereas the analysis method is qualitative description, which is the superimposed method of two layers, that are the layout condition before and after flyover construction. The result shows that the impact of Janti Flyover construction can be seen on building mass (solid), the increasing number of open spaces, including the road network, parking place, and park, whereas the relation between spaces, visually and structurally, can be seen on the growth of buildings which have new shapes and styles, therefore the performance of the overall building does not have a proportional shape. Considering Janti Street at the collective relation, its role is getting stronger as the main frame road network. Keywords: Flyover construction, layout changing, Janti AreaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terhadap perkembangan tata ruang Kawasan Janti, meliputi ruang terbangun, ruang terbuka, serta hubungan antar ruang (“linkage”).

This research examines the agenda and frames used by the Reporter newspaper editorial coverage of issues and actors before and after the reform in Ethiopia. The study applies a quantitative content analysis method and examined 99 (Period 1 = 57 and Period 2 = 42) editorials in all periods. The source of data and the period of data collection were purposely selected. The results indicated that societal issues, government, and party issues were frequent in both periods. The professional journalist was the only Author in both periods. More government criticism and more reforms were mentioned before the reform. Compared with editorials published before and after the reform, noticeable changes were observed in government critique, attribution of responsibility frames, human interest frames and economic issue frames. However, content selection, sources of information, mentioned reforms, conflict relationship frames, and ideological frames didn’t have relationship with the date of publication. Finally, the Reporter editorials coverage did change significantly in many respects, although it is difficult to determine the causes of the changes—economic factors, reduced political control, social changes or globalization forces.
