Titanium-based nitride coatings on cutting tools, press molds and dies can prolong their life cycle because of superior corrosion and oxidation resistance of coatings. In this study, TiAlN/ZrN and TiCrN/ZrN multilayer coatings were prepared by R.F magnetron sputtering, and microstructural evolution and corrosion resistance of the coatings were investigated during heat treatment. The TiAlN/ZrN and TiCrN/ZrN multilayer coatings were degraded by heating up to 600 oC with formation of oxides particles on the surface. During the heat treatment, the TiCrN/ZrN and TiAlN/ZrN multilayer coatings showed the lowest corrosion current density and the highest polarization resistance at temperature range of 400 oC and 500 oC. Consequently, the TiAlN/ZrN and TiCrN/ZrN multilayer coatings showed good corrosion resistance at temperature range of 400°C and 500°C during heating.

Series of TiCrN wear resistant coatings have been known to be superior to other coatings in protecting tools which may be damaged corrosion, oxidization, abrasion and hardness of mold materials. The corrosion and oxidation resistance of TiN/CrN(TiCrN) multilayer coatings is better than that of single TiN and CrN coatings. TiCrN coated layer was formed by coating a layer of TixCr1-xN by non-stoichiometry. In this study, TiCrN coated layer by R.F magnetron sputtering was executed heat treatment each other temperature by tube furnace. And then surfaces of coated layer and cross sections were observed by FE-SEM and XRD. Corrosion resistance tester measured characterizations of coated layers. When the temperature increased, TiN was partially transformed to Ti2N and TiNX, and CrN was also transformed to Cr2N. The formation of non-stoichiometric phases decreased corrosion resistance.

Economizers are widely employed in the boiler system to increase efficiency and save energy. However one prominent problem is the severe corrosion of economizer due to the decrease of the exhaust temperature of boiler. Ni–P/Cu/Ni-P multilayer coatings, which could effectively improve the corrosion resistance of the facilities in economizer, are introduced in the present work. The three-layer coatings, whose composition is Ni–P/Cu/Ni-P from substrate to surface, were prepared using dual baths (acidic hypophosphite-reduced electroless nickel bath and acidic replacement electroless copper bath). The corrosion resistance of the coatings was evaluated by porosity and electrochemical tests. The results of porosity evaluation show that all the multilayer coatings performed better than the single-layer coatings of similar thickness. Similarly, The electrochemical tests showed lower corrosion current density for the multilayer coatings in 3.5 wt.% NaCl aqueous solutions.

The present study examined the effects of heat treatment and the addition of Cu-Ni alloy on the corrosion resistance of the matrix of spheroidal graphite cast iron in aqueous environments. Test materials of white cast iron and carbon steel were used for comparison with spheroidal graphite cast iron. The alloy spheroidal graphite cast iron that added Cu and Ni was prepared. The spheroidal graphite cast iron was subjected to three kinds of heat treatment to adjust the matrix: annealing, oil quenching, and austemper heat treatment. In electrochemical tests, measurements of corrosion electrode potential and cathode and anode polarization were used. The following was clarified from the relationship between the electrode potential and current density of each of the materials in each of the solution. The alloy spheroidal graphite cast iron had a high corrosion electrode potential owing to the addition of Cu-Ni, and tended to have a low corrosion current density. This demonstrates that in any of the materials having a matrix adjusted by heat treatment, the addition of Cu-Ni increased the corrosion resistance. The corrosion current density was highest in a sulfuric acid environment.

Ni-P alloy and SiC micron particles were codeposited on Q235 steel by electroless plating. The composition, microstructure, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of the composite coating were studied. The results revealed that the deposited composite coating shows dispersed SiC particles and continuous Ni-P matrix. When the content of SiC was 8g/L and the heat treatment temperature was 300°C, the corrosion potential and corrosion current of Ni-P-SiC coating were-0.292V, and 8.2×10-7 A/cm2, respectively, while those of Ni-P composite coating were-0.501V, and 4.2×10-5 A/cm2, respectively. Ni-P-SiC composite coating with high content of SiC exhibits better oxidation resistance than Ni-P coating.

The ceria coatings on AZ91 substrates were successfully synthesized by chemical conversion and the corrosion resistance of AZ91 samples with and without ceria coatings were evaluated by means of electrochemical corrosion in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. According to the parameters derived from the polarization date, the Icorr (the corrosion current density) values of the coated samples are smaller than that of bare one, indicating that the corrosion resistance of AZ91 alloys has been improved to some extent. The influence of fluoridated pretreatment, inter-layer heat treatment, sintering temperature and the layer of films on the performance of ceria coatings were also investigated. It was found that the inter-layer heat treatment has no influence on improving the anticorrosion resistance of AZ91 alloy. In comparison with the bare one, the Icorr of optimal sample is about 0.0219mA/cm2, which decreases by two orders of magnitude, indicating that the ceria coatings could significantly improve the corrosion resistance of AZ91 magnesium alloy.

Fe-based amorphous coatings have many excellent performances, such as good corrosion resistance, high hardness, satisfactory magnetism, etc. In this paper, Fe-P amorphous coatings were prepared by electrodeposition method, and the phase transformation, microstructure, and hardness of the coatings heated at different heat-treatment temperature were investigated. The results show that Fe-P amorphous coatings begin to crystallize when heated at 300°C, the α-Fe(P) solid solution appears when heated at 330°C, and FexP(X=1,2,3) compounds separate out from the solid solution when heat-treatment temperature is up to 370°C. During the process of heat-treatment, hardness of the Fe-P coating increases as the reinforcement result of solid solution and dispersed phase in the coatings, and the hardness reaches the maximum 1100 HV at 370°C. When heat-treatment temperature is higher than 460°C, dispersed phase in the coatings will grow up, which is called Ostwald Coarsening Phenomenon, and hardness of the coating decreases quickly.
