Qeshm, an island in southern Iran, has two significant elements of sustainable architecture—wind catcher and Latticework (Moshabak). So, it can be defined based on its performance-oriented vernacular architecture which results in the wind renewable energy. However, there are few studies on these sustainable elements. The present study attempted to analyze the performance and structure of these natural ventilation systems in the island. In our research methodology, we tried to use the qualitative approach. Initially, we used citation and library sources for gathering information. Later, we visited the site and the native architecture of the island was studied by analyzing and extracting architectural elements from 48 old buildings which are over 70 years old. Moreover, different types of wind energy and Moshabaks used in the island were thoroughly studied. Meanwhile, the temperature during different periods was compared and the height of the wind catchers and their influence on the rate of wind deflector, functional art, and ecology-oriented architecture of the island were evaluated. The results showed that in terms of function, these so-called sustainable native architectural elements have met the natural ventilation requirement appropriately.

The Indonesian government has mandated using the Hospital Information System (HIS) since 2013. Until now, not all hospitals in Indonesia have implemented HIS, however. Some barriers have prevented them from applying HIS. This study explores the opportunities and barriers regarding implementing the Hospital Information System (HIS) in Indonesia through a public hospital case study. This study applied a qualitative approach. The approach used interviews to gather data using a pre-tested interview guideline. The guideline used several constructs to structure the questions, i.e., predisposing, enabling, reinforcing, barrier, and projected behavior. Participants were different types of HIS users in the studied hospital, i.e., physician, nurse, pharmacist, administrators, laboratory personnel, and Information Technology (IT) personnel. Data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically. The interviews involved twenty-one participants. Nine themes describe HIS implementation challenges in this case study, i.e., familiarity, flexibility, empowerment, discipline, facilities, data sharing, quality assurance, pragmatism, and capacity building. Pragmatism could be a barrier, while the other values would be opportunities. These challenges are promising in guiding HIS implementation success. The values found in this study convince that HIS implementation in Indonesia is promising. Those challenges are required to be taken into account to implement HIS successfully.

Different types of virtual innovation-related communities have emerged in recent years. These are increasingly being utilized by companies from different industries as a tool to efficiently source knowledge from diverse groups of individuals and thus to nourish internal innovations. Based on a case study research methodology this study investigated the impact 39 motivational factors have on the participation and contribution of members of two different innovation communities, i.e., an online Swiss innovation intermediary community (n = 48) and the off-line internal innovation community of a Swiss bank (n = 69). Results showed many similarities yet 16 significant differences between the perception of members of the two investigated innovation communities. For example, reward related items (monetary and non-monetary) showed to be top motivators for the intermediary community only. Items such as 'Webcam option', 'Chat function', 'Connection with other social network platforms', were perceived as low motivators by both communities. Derived from the findings, we discuss how the nature of the innovation community has an influence on the motivation and measures potentially leading to higher participation and contribution efficiency.

As a reaction to the monotonous expression of typical International Style architecture, vernacular architecture is often applied to the design of modern buildings. Unfortunately, most of these applications are limited to copy existing vernacular architectural elements. This research aims to elucidate the application of Sundanese vernacular concepts in modern building designs. In line with this purpose, the Aula Barat (West Hall) Bandung Institute of Technology designed by Maclaine Pont was chosen as the case study. The analysis showed that the Sundanese vernacular concept was presented through the shape of the roof, which is similar to the vernacular house and mosque in the Sundanese village; while the modern lamella construction provides a wide-span structural system. This research complement existing research about Sundanese vernacular architecture, by exploring in-depth how to designed modern buildings that fit new functions and to its zeitgeist, but at the same time embodied the local expressions. It is expected that in the future modern buildings are no longer designed in the form of frozen vernacular architecture. The results of this research can also be a valuable input for stakeholders and architectural conservationists, as well as a source of knowledge for the laypeople.

For the umpteenth time various programs have been developed in response to the problems of street children in Indonesia. The government has officially attempted to address the problems through a number of avenues. However, the overall effort appears to be cursory at best. Only a small number of street children seem to benefit from the official programs, while the number of this population continues to climb. In spite of the failures of previous programs, the government seems to be reluctant to change its position and to undertake alternative approaches in addressing the problems of street children. Intervention programs for street children in Indonesia, in the provincial and regional levels, are uniformly developed in the form of national programs. Consequently, local culture and knowledge are not adequately reflected in the framework and approaches that the provincial and regional governments bring to the implementation of programs for street children. This severely reduces the value and impact of the programs.Drawing from an extensive case study on the intervention programs for street children in Yogyakarta Province, this study explores the major problems surrounding the national intervention programs for street children in Indonesia. It focuses on how national policy and programs are implemented at the provincial and regional levels. For this purpose, this study employed a qualitative approach and used a twofold research methodology, a combination of analyzing the pertinent documentation relating to policy and programs for street children along with serial interviews conducted with key informants from government offices and non-governmental institutions (NGOs).
