ABSTRACT Objective: The aims of the study are to assess the marginal accuracy of base metal and titanium alloy casting and to evaluate the effect of repeated ceramic firing on the marginal accuracy of base metal and titanium alloy castings. Materials and Methods: Twenty metal copings were fabricated with each casting material. Specimens were divided into 4 groups of 10 each representing base metal alloys castings without (Group A) and with metal shoulder margin (Group B), titanium castings without (Group C) and with metal shoulder margin (Group D). The measurement of fit of the metal copings was carried out before the ceramic firing at four different points and the same was followed after porcelain build-up. Results: Significant difference was found when Ni-Cr alloy samples were compared with Grade II titanium samples both before and after ceramic firings. The titanium castings with metal shoulder margin showed highest microgap among all the materials tested. Conclusions: Based on the results that were found and within the limitations of the study design, it can be concluded that there is marginal discrepancy in the copings made from Ni-Cr and Grade II titanium. This marginal discrepancy increased after ceramic firing cycles for both Ni-Cr and Grade II titanium. The comparative statistical analysis for copings with metal-collar showed maximum discrepancy for Group D. The comparative statistical analysis for copings without metal-collar showed maximum discrepancy for Group C.

<p>The advent of technology has improved the way statistics is taught and learned. It is claimed that the use of computer-based instructional tools can actively explore the meaning of statistical concepts among the students, as well as enhance their learning experiences. This study aimed to compare three methods of statistical analysis namely, the traditional technique (use of the calculator), Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. This investigation utilized the experimental design, specifically the One-Group Pretest – Posttest Design. There were six education students who self-assessed their attitude before and after the introduction of the use of various computation techniques and performed the statistical analysis considering also the completion time required for each process. Results of the study revealed an increase in the level of attitude among the respondents form the pretest to the posttest. Also, the cognitive level regardless of the approach was very high. However, the t-test failed to establish a significant difference in the attitude among the respondents. Background/Objectives: This study examined the effects of introducing programming as a technological tool for teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) development.Methods/Statistical Analysis: Thirty-two teachers were divided into two groups, completing different types of TPACK educational programs. The control group’s TPACK training program was based on information and communication technology (ICT), while that of the experimental group was based on programming. To verify the effectiveness of the TPACK training program, tests were administered before and after the educational program. A statistical analysis of questionnaire results also investigated changes resulting from TPACK.Findings: Both the control and experimental groups showed statistically significant improvements in the post-test compared with the pre-test. However, in the detailed areas of TPACK by group, the improvements in the two groups differed. Unlike the control group, the experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement in the knowledge related to technology. This result illustrated that programming is effective in solving the problem of integrating technology into the classroom. In contrast, there was no significant difference in the post-test, as this was applied in the short term. However, programming has been shown to affect Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), Technological Content Knowledge (TCK), and TPACK. SUMMARY The aim of this study was to evaluate how cavity linings with different elastic modulus can influence the marginal adaptation (MA) of Class II composite restorations before and after thermo-mechanical loading. Materials and Methods: Forty Class II cavities with margins extending 1 mm below the cement-enamel junction were prepared in extracted human third molars. In each group except the control group, a lining material of 1-mm thickness was applied to the bottom of the cavity and polymerized before placing the resin composite Herculite XRV Ultra (group A: control; group B: Premise Flowable lining; group C: Herculite XRV Ultra lining; and group D: Optibond FL lining). MA was evaluated (with a scanning electron microscope) before and after loading (200,000 loading cycles). Statistical analysis was done using the Shapiro-Wilks test, the analysis of variance test, and Duncan post hoc test at p&lt;0.05. Results: Before loading, the percentages of continuous margins in dentin were superior (p&lt;0.05) for groups C and D (71.1% and 87.2%, respectively) compared to groups A and B (55.7% and 48.3%, respectively). After loading, group D (79.8%) was statistically superior in dentin compared to all of the other groups (43.6%, 35.9%, and 54.4%, respectively). In occlusal enamel, no significant difference was found between groups. The percentage of enamel fractures and the percentage of noncontinuous margins in proximal enamel were high, with no significant difference between liners. It can be concluded that for the materials used in this study, a 1-mm-thick lining with an extremely low elastic modulus (2-3 GPa) could redistribute shrinkage stress. The use of a flowable composite did not significantly improve MA.

AbstractThe objective of this study was to describe current obstetric, neonatal, and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of higher order multifetal gestations (≥ 3 fetuses) in the 1990s. We also intended to identify a target gestational age at which neonatal and neurodevelopmental morbidities are low. Records from all multifetal pregnancies (≥ 3 viable fetuses ≥ 20 weeks gestation) delivered at the two perinatal centers in Toronto, Ontario, Canada during the study period (January 1, 1990–December 31, 1996) were reviewed. Data were collected on obstetric, neonatal, and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. Follow up data were gathered regarding the presence of a severe deficit in four categories (vision, hearing, cognition, and motor skills). Statistical analysis was performed to determine a gestational age at which a significant decrease in deficit occurred. During the study period 165 multifetal pregnancies were delivered. This resulted in 511 fetuses, of which 496 were live births. Of these 496 infants, 453 survived to discharge. Follow up data were obtained on 332 (73.3 per cent) infants. Infant survival increased with gestational age, and was approximately 90 per cent or greater at 26 weeks or more. Of all infants followed, the proportion of those without deficit increased with increasing gestational age, such that the per cent without deficit was 96.9 at 31 weeks or greater. Of all infants followed, 301 (90.7 per cent) had no deficit. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in long-term neurodevelopmental outcome between infants born before and after 28 weeks gestation. The incidence of a major deficit was 44.1 per cent for those born earlier than and 5.4 per cent for those born later than this gestational age (p = 0.001). In our cohort, survival figures were high. Even in lower gestational groupings, survival was high, but not without serious concerns about severe morbidity. This information is useful when counseling parents of higher order multifetal pregnancies.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the marginal adaptation of implant-supported three-unit fixed restorations fabricated in excessive crown height by various frameworks namely zirconia, nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) alloy, and Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) before and after veneering. Materials and Methods: A basic model with two implant fixtures was made to receive posterior three-unit fixed partial dentures (second premolar to second molar) in 15 mm crown height. A total of 30 frameworks were fabricated using Ni-Cr, zirconia, and PEEK (n=10). All specimens were veneered and vertical marginal discrepancy was evaluated before and after veneering using a stereomicroscope (×75). The effect of framework material and veneering on marginal discrepancy was evaluated by repeated-measures and one-way ANOVA, and paired t test (α=0.05). Results: There was a significant difference between the groups (P<0.001) before and after veneering. The vertical marginal discrepancy of zirconia frameworks was significantly lower than that of other groups both before and after veneering (P<0.001). Statistical analysis revealed that the veneering process had a significant effect on marginal adaptation (P<0.001). Conclusion: In implant prostheses with excessive crown height, zirconia had the greatest marginal adaptaion significantly, followed by Ni-Cr. Veneering caused a significant increase in marginal discrepancy of all the materials.

<p><strong>Objective:</strong> To evaluate the effect of glide path creation on transportation promoted by NiTi and M-Wire instruments. <strong>Material and Methods: </strong>Sixty polyester resin blocks containing a simulated root canal were distributed into four groups (n=15), according to the protocols/systems used for root canal preparation: GPR group - glide path + Revo-S system; R group - no glide path + Revo-S system; GPPN group - glide path + ProTaper Next system and PN group - no glide path + ProTaper Next system. Root canals were photographed before and after preparation, and the images were superimposed to evaluate the transportation at the apical, middle and coronal thirds. The time spent to perform preparation was also measured (seconds). Data were submitted to the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test (p&lt;0.05) for statistical analysis. <strong>Results:</strong> In the apical third, there was no significant difference among groups (p&gt;0.05). GPR and R groups were similar in the middle third (p&gt;0.05). However, the transportation value in GPR group was statistically higher in comparison with GPPN and PN groups (p&lt;0.05). In the coronal third, GPR and R groups were similar (p&gt;0.05). Only R group presented significant difference in comparison with GPPN and PN groups (p&lt;0.05). There was no difference among groups about time spent to perform preparation (p&gt;0.05). <strong>Conclusion:</strong> None of the systems were capable of maintaining the original trajectory of the simulated root canal, and the glide path had no effect on the transportation promoted by instruments.</p><p><strong>Keywords</strong></p><p>Dental instruments; Endodontics; Root canal preparation.</p>

Abstract Objective: The functional orientation of the acetabular cup depends on the pelvic orientation when standing. Therefore, predicting the standing orientation of the pelvis after total hip arthroplasty( THA )is important to the preoperative plan. This study aimed to explore the rule suitable for different categories of patients.Methods: A total of 262 patients who had undergone hip arthroplasty in our hospital from 2011 to 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Based on the spine and hip joint, they were divided into 5 categories: no flexion contracture of the hip joint - good lumbar range of motion (group A); no flexion contracture of the hip joint - limited lumbar motion (group B: B1, tanterior pelvic plane tilt (APPt)>0 °; B2, APPt<0 °); hip flexion contracture - good lumbar range of motion (group C); and hip flexion contracture - limited lumbar motion (group D). Changes of the pelvic sagittal parameter before and after THA were analyzed. Results: In group A, there was no significant difference in pelvic incidence (PI) and sagittal vertical axia (SVA) between preoperation and postoperation (P>0.05), but the mean value of sacral slope (SS) (from 44.99 °to 40.50 °), lumbar lordosis( LL) (from 51.42 to 47.45), pelvic tilt (PT) (from 8.71 °to 11.91°), and tanterior pelvic plane tilt (APPt) (from 4.5 °to 1.27 °) had statistic difference (P<0.05); In group B1 and B2, PI, SVA, SS, PT, LL, and APPt had no significant difference before and after operation (P>0.05); In group C, significant difference was not observed in PI (P>0.05), but found (P<0.05) in LL (from 52.17° to 43.43°), SS(44.90° to 38.34°), PT (from 5.70° to 13.36°), APPt (from 9.18° to 2.18°), and SVA (from 3.46cm to 1.16cm). In group D: the pelvis was in supination state before and after operation, and the spine sagittal position was imbalanced. Neither was there significant difference in SVA, PI, SVA, SS, ll and APPt between preoperation and postoperation (P>0.05). In addition, Harris scores of different groups changed accordingly. Conclusion: The sagittal rotation of the pelvis caused by different conditions of the spine-hip has a certain change law after total hip arthroplasty.

The objective of the research is to find out whether or not video blog can improve the speaking ability of the students of English Education Department of FTK UINAM in academic year 2017/2018.  The researcher applied pre-experimental method, with one group pretest and posttest design which employed speaking test to find out the students’ speaking performance in terms of accuracy. The sample consisted of 20 students used purposive sampling technique taken from the population of the second semester students of Sulawesi Flight. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was significant difference of students’ speaking performance before and after being trained through video blog. It is proved by result of statistical analysis of the level significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) =  N-1 = 20-1 = 19 which indicated that t-test value of final score I speaking ability (13.309) was greater than t-table (2.093). Therefore, video blog can improve speaking performance of the students.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To study the effect of water, halloumi cheese and sugar-free (SF) chewing gum on plaque pH recovery after the intake of sweetened PLAs. Settings and Design: A randomized clinical trial was conducted on 17 children (10 females, 7 males) aged 11–12 years with DFT/dft of more than 3. Materials and Methods: Each volunteer tested paracetamol and ibuprofen suspension alone or followed with water, halloumi cheese or SF gum, as well as 10% sucrose and 10% sorbitol as controls. Plaque pH was measured using the sampling method before and after 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 min of ingestion. Statistical Analysis: Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance followed by least significant difference test to assess minimum pH (min pH), maximum pH drop (ΔpH), and the area under baseline pH, and P value was set as 0.05. Results: Both ibuprofen and paracetamol were not significantly different from 10% sucrose in terms of min pH, ΔpH, and area under baseline pH except for min pH of ibuprofen (P = 0.034). Water and halloumi cheese did not have a significant effect on plaque pH recovery after the intake of both analgesics as min pH, ΔpH, and area under baseline pH were similar to 10% sucrose except for min pH of ibuprofen + water (P = 0.048). However, plaque pH variables after chewing SF gum for 20 min were similar to 10% sorbitol. Conclusion: Chewing SF gum immediately after the intake of sweetened PLAs for 20 min restores plaque pH and could be recommended as a complementary aid in caries prevention.

Aims and MethodThe aim of this study was to determine the existence and extent of differences in prescribing practice for patients according to ethnic group, with two widely used atypical antipsychotics, olanzapine and clozapine. All in-patient prescription charts were screened and patients receiving olanzapine and clozapine identified. Dosage, antipsychotic co-prescription and race were recorded, along with demographic details, and evaluated using comparative statistical analysis.ResultsOverall, 1441 prescriptions were screened; 328 patients received olanzapine and 200 clozapine. Details of ethnic origin were available for 287 of those prescribed olanzapine and 188 of those prescribed clozapine. There was no significant difference between ethnic groups in age or gender, for either drug. For clozapine, dosage and extent of antipsychotic co-prescription did not differ significantly between ethnic groups; for olanzapine, there was no significant difference in daily dose between the groups, but co-prescription was significantly more common in Black (33%) than in White patients (20%; P=0.023).Clinical ImplicationsImportant differences in the prescription of olanzapine and clozapine between ethnic groups are uncommon, but demand further investigation. Larger studies incorporating additional baseline details such as diagnosis and body weight are called for.
