The emergence of multi-drug resistant strains and limitations of present antimicrobial drugs have led to continuous search for natural products as curative agents for Anti-methicillin resistantinfections. The aim of this study was to evaluate antibacterial activity of an ethanolic extract from Albizia lebbeckstem bark against Anti-methicillin resistant. Methods and Results : The methods of dissemination swab on muller-hinton agar and double dilution were used to evaluate the antibacterial activity of 70 % ethanolic extract of stem bark of Albizia lebbeck.All multi-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and the reference strain (ATCC 25923) were sensitive to 70 % ethanolic extract of the stem bark of Albizia lebbeck. The MBCvary from 0,49 mg/mL to 2mg/mL. Also, the phytochemical screening of this extract revealed the presence of  Polyphenols, Gallic tannins, Catechin tanninsand Flavonoids. These findings confirm that an 70 % ethanolic extract from Albizia lebbeck stem bark inhibited growth of Anti-methicillin resistant at low concentration and could be utilised as an alternative Anti-methicillin resistantagent.

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is defined as chronic inflammation of middle ear and mastoid cavity presenting with recurrent ear discharges through a tympanic membrane perforation. Complications of CSOM were frequent in pre-antibiotic era. Injudicious use of antibiotics led to the emergence of multi-drug resistant strains and complications in return. To isolate the organisms associated with CSOM in a tertiary care centre and to detect their antibiogram.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> In this clinical, prospective, cross sectional study, a total of 100 patients clinically diagnosed with CSOM were enrolled from January to December 2019 (1 year).  </p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results:</strong> Of the 100 samples collected, predominant bacteria were isolated in 58 patients (58%). The most common isolate was <em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</em> (29 isolates) followed by <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em> (24), <em>Klebsiella</em> species (3) and 1 isolate each of <em>Pneumococci</em> and <em>Acinetobacter</em> species. Among the 29 isolates of <em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</em>, 8 (28%) were multidrug resistant. Sensitivity was 100% to imipenem followed by 97% to meropenem,79% to gentamicin, 76% to amikacin, 66% to ciprofloxacin, 41% to piperacillin tazobactam and 17% to ceftazidime. Of the 24 isolates of <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>, 4 (16%) were methicillin resistant <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em> (MRSA).</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most common isolate, of which 28% were multi drug resistant. This calls for the judicious use of antibiotics and alternative measures for treatment of drug resistant strains. Formulating an antibiotic policy based on the local antibiogram can help in preventing the emergence and spread of resistant pathogens.</p>

Silver nanoparticles were biosynthesized from Nigella sativa seed extracts using ethanol and chloroform. The antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles against some drug-resistant bacteria has been established, but further study is needed to assess whether these particles could be an option for the treatment and prevention of drug-resistant microbial infections. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized and screened for their antibacterial properties on resistant strains. The biosynthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Visible, FTIR, Dynamic light scattering and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis. The antibacterial action of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles was assessed by Microtitre Broth dilution process using Ciprofloxacin as standard, against resistant strains like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Clostridium difficile, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes. The Silver nanoparticles obtained from chloroform extract of Nigella sativa seeds were more effective against Pseudomonas aeuruginosa, Clostridium difficile and Streptococcus pyogenes; than ethanolic seed extracts at 120 µL. Our data propose that the silver nanoparticles are effective against a variety of drug-resistant bacteria, which makes them a potential candidate for use in pharmaceutical products that may help to treat drug-resistant pathogens in different clinical environments. The present study focuses on the ability of phytoconstituents capped with silver nitrate can be used to treat infections caused by resistant bacteria
