AbstractIntracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the most frequent complication in postnatal development of preterm infants. The purpose of the present work is the statistical evaluation of seven standard paraclinical parameters and their association to the development of ICH. Clinical records of 265 preterm infants with gestational age (GA) 23 to 30 weeks were analyzed. According to ICH status, patients were divided into control (without ICH) and affected (with ICH) groups. Mean values of paraclinical parameters at each week of gestation were compared. Different ICH grades, periods before and after ICH were considered separately. Lower hematocrit, SaO2, and pH were statistically significant for preterm infants with 23 to 30 weeks GA and diagnosis of ICH relative to infants without ICH. Additionally, for preterm infants with 27 to 30 weeks GA, higher C-reactive protein, as well as lower values of thrombocytes were associated with the occurrence of ICH. Preterm infants with 23 to 26 weeks GA showed C-reactive protein values similar to those in the group without ICH and lower levels of thrombocytes after bleeding. Significant differences in paraclinical parameters between preterm infants with and without ICH may constitute useful indicators for closer clinical observation of preterm infants at risk of ICH.

Abstract: Sensory Integration Therapy-Muscle Tonus-Clinical Observation Of Neuromotor Performance. Special need children such as down syndrome, autism and intellectual disability suffered from Sensory Integration Disorder (SID) will have an impact on the weakness of postural muscle tone. Muscle tone measurement of children with SID is different from other children without SID. Clinical observation of neuromotor performance (CONP) is used as of one of criteria of muscle muscle tone in children with SID. The study aimed at finding theeffect of sensory integration therapy towards muscle tone based on Score of Clinical Observation of Neuromotor Performance (CONP) at Mitra Ananda Surakarta. The study was designed as quasi experiment one group pretest posttest design. population of this study is client with SID at Mitra Ananda Surakarta , by total sampling there are a number of 12 samples. Paired t-test is applied for analizing data with SPSS version 17.0. Paired t-test portrayed p-value > 0.05 it means that there are no significant difference in muscletone, before and after treatment. Sensory integration therapy doesn’t affect muscle tone for shildren with SID Based on Score of Clinical Observation of Neuromotor Performance (CONP) at Mitra Ananda Surakarta

Epilepsy affects millions of people around the world. Stimulation of the left vagus nerve (VNS) has proven to be effective in reducing the frequency of seizures for over 30 years, and some authors have noted the positive dynamics of the effect of stimulation on the emotional status of patients. In this clinical observation, we describe changes in the pathopsychological condition before and after VNS therapy in a patient with a drug-resistant form of epilepsy and suicidal intentions.

Partial splenectomy was performed in 17 adult dogs by using either surgical stapling instrumentation or conventional suturing techniques. Blood loss was minimal as determined by clinical observation and comparison of packed cell volumes and total protein levels before and after surgery. Surgical stapling instrumentation or suturing techniques may be used safely for partial splenectomy in the dog; however, the stapling technique significantly decreases operative time.

Background and Aims: No previous studies have analyzed the connection between total hip replacement and induced abortion. We evaluated the nationwide induced abortion rates among women with and without total hip replacement. Materials and Methods: Data for this cohort study were gathered from national registers from 1987 to 2007. All fertile-aged (15–44 years old) females who had undergone primary total hip replacement in Finland were selected. The total hip replacement patient group comprised 1713 women and the reference group 5148 women. Information on all pregnancies for both groups before and after total hip replacement/index date was gathered from the medical birth register and the register of induced abortion. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the adjusted odds ratio for induced abortion. Adjustment was made for age at induced abortion, parity, previous induced abortions, previous deliveries, and marital status. Results: Women had higher induced abortion proportions after total hip replacement (17.9%) compared with women before total hip replacement (14.1%) and the referents (13.9%), but the differences were not statistically significant. Women in the total hip replacement patient group had significantly more induced abortions after total hip replacement due to maternal health issues (14.7%) compared with the referents (2.7%), p = 0.003. Patients in the total hip replacement group were not more likely to have their pregnancy ending in induced abortion than the women in the reference group (odds ratio 1.32, 95% confidence interval 0.89–1.96, p = 0.17). However, in the adjusted analysis, there was a trend for higher risk for pregnancy to end in induced abortion in the total hip replacement group in relation to the reference group (adjusted odds ratio 1.50 (confidence interval 0.99–2.28, p = 0.05). Conclusion: The total hip replacement patient group had higher, but statistically insignificant, induced abortion proportions compared with the reference group before and after the operation. After total hip replacement, the patients were not more likely to have a pregnancy ending in induced abortion. This finding remained statistically insignificant after adjusting with possible confounders.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tongxuekang capsule in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Single-centred, open self-control methods before and after administration were performed in different time length of 14 days, 28 days, 56 days and 84 days to observe for improvement by evaluating knee joint pain scores, WOMAC scores, and doctors and patients' scores on the overall condition of the disease before and after treatment. Results: A total of 34 patients with primary knee osteoarthritis from October 2016 to September 2017 were enrolled in Xijing Hospital. There were 7 males and 27 females with an average age of 54 years and an average body mass index of 25 kg/m2. Joint pain scores, WOMAC scores, and doctors' and patients' overall scores for the disease were significantly improved compared to prior treatment, with no significant adverse reactions in all patients. Conclusion: Tongxuekang capsule is safe and effective in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and thus, can be used as a treatment option. In order to conduct further studies on the effectiveness and safety of consumption with the use of the capsule in a larger population, an increase in the sample size of the current study is necessary.

SummaryThis study was conducted in 1985 in Asunción, Paraguay, 6 years after the closure of the state supported family planning services. Data from national surveys in 1977 and 1987 permit a comparison of sources of contraceptive supplies before and after the elimination of government support for family planning. The purchase of pseudo-abortifacients from private pharmacies was used as an indication of induced abortion. After the loss of government clinics, it is suggested that some women turned to pharmacists to obtain pseudo-abortifacients when faced with unwanted pregnancy. There is an indication of increased pseudo-abortifacient use, particularly among unmarried women and those from poorer neighbourhoods.
