The study investigated organizational culture as correlate of teachers’ job performance and attitude to work in secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Five research questions guided the study and six null hypotheses were tested. The study adopted correlational survey research design. The population of the study comprised all the 6396 teachers in public secondary schools in the state. Out of the population, a sample size of 1279 teachers was drawn through proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. Data was collected using three different questionnaires developed by the researchers. The questionnaires include school organizational culture questionnaire (SOCQ), Teachers’ job performance questionnaire (TJPQ) and Teachers’ attitude to work questionnaire (TAWQ). The instruments were validated by three experts from Faculty of Education Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Cronbach Alpha method was used to determine the reliability of the instruments which yielded a reliability coefficient of .959, .957 and 0.701 respectively. The reliability indices were considered high enough and thus the instruments were deemed reliable. Data collection was done by the researchers with the help of ten research assistants. Aggregate score was used to answer research questions 1 to 3 while Pearson r was used to answer research questions 4 and 5 and critical probability table of Pearson r was used to take decision on the six null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed among others that: teachers rated their school organizational culture to be good; teachers’ job performance is good and teachers have positive attitude to their work. Also, it was found that there is no significant relationship between school organization culture and teachers’ job performance; and no significant relationship between school organizational culture and teachers’ attitude to work. Based on the findings it was recommended that: School management and management of Anambra State post primary school service Commission should ensure improvement in secondary school culture in order that all the teachers would rate their school culture to be good without some rating it to be poor. It was also recommended that in- service training be organized for secondary school teachers through seminars, workshops and advance learning in order to ensure that all of the teachers have good job performance and positive attitude to work. AbstractThe study investigated the availability and utilization of ICT resources in the teaching of Computer Education among Secondary School Teachers in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study. The population consisted of 450 computer teachers teaching computer education in the schools. From the population, 300 computer teachers were sampled and used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed 40 – item questionnaire. It was validated by experts and the reliability co-efficient stood at 0.79. The data collected were analysed using frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed that many of the ICT resources needed for the teaching of computer education are not available. It was also revealed that majority of the resources needed for the teaching of computer education are not being used by the teachers. In view of the findings, recommendations were made.

The purpose of the study was to ascertain the motivational techniques employed by teachers in secondary schools for teaching and learning of account in Awka education zone of Anambra State. It was a descriptive research guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses. The public and private secondary schools in the area were studied. All the 99 teachers of account in the area formed the population. There was no sampling. A researcher-developed questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Four experts, all in Nnamdi Azikiwe University validated the instrument. The reliability of the study was established through pilot test in Onitsha education zone of Anambra State. The reliability coefficient of section 1 is 0.87 and that of section2 is 0.84 respectively. The direct approach was employed in the data collection. Out of the 99 copies of the instrument distributed, 96 copies were retrieved and correctly filled. They were subjected to data analysis. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test. Findings of the study indicated that teachers in secondary school employed both positive negative reinforcement techniques for teaching and learning of account. Based on this, it was recommended that teachers should also motivate their students through appreciation when they perform well (for instance, a teacher can say, ‘high five’ to a wellbehaved student)

This study examined forms, risk factors and health hazards of domestic violence among married secondary school teachers in Anambra State. Four research questions and four hypothesis guided the study. The study used a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 2600 married teachers (male and female) in all secondary schools owned by Anambra State. The sample consisted of 1080 married teachers in secondary schools in Anambra State. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled Domestic Violence Questionnaire (DVQ). The DVQ was validated by experts in measurement and evaluation as health education. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.947. Mean and standard deviation statistics were used to answer the research questions. T-test and ANOVA were used to test null hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed among others that forms of domestic violence such as physical injuries, depression, abortion and others exist among married secondary school teachers in Anambra State. Risk factors of domestic violence such as low self-esteem, economic stress, unhealthy family relationship, distrust, sexual dissatisfaction and others exist among married teachers in secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that, health educators should provide a platform to educate married teachers in various secondary schools on the need to avoid domestic violence so as to have a peaceful environment at home. Married teachers should endeavour to learn and understand each other as this will enable them avoid any form of violence at home. The study investigated determinants of risky sexual behaviours among adolescents in secondary schools in Rivers State. The study adopted the ex-post-facto research design. Four research questions as well as four corresponding hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study comprised 14,784 senior secondary school students (SSS 1, 2 and 3) in the 16 public secondary schools in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State. A sample of 300 adolescents was randomly and independently selected using purposive sampling technique. Four instruments (questionnaire) were used to collect data for the study. They include; the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSS), Risky Sexual Behaviours Scale (RSBS), Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) and Peer Group Influence Scale (PGIS). The instruments were designed on a four point Likert scale of Strongly Agree (SA) =4, Agree (A) =3, Disagree (D) =2, and Strongly Disagree (SD) =1. The Cronbach Alpha reliability was used to establish the internal consistency reliability coefficients of 0.81, 0.73, 0.67 and 0.71 respectively. Responses to the research questions were answered with mean and standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested with z-test statistics. The findings of the study revealed that emotional intelligence and peer pressure were significant determinants of risky sexual behaviours among adolescents in secondary school in Rivers State, whereas self-esteem and gender are not. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended among others that counsellors should readily offer practical assistance to adolescents experiencing sexuality problems to enable them develop healthy sexual behaviours and maintain healthy relationships with others.

The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study, based on the theoretical framework of transformational leadership, was to examine the relationships between leadership style, organizational culture, and job satisfaction in the U.S. healthcare industry. The study addressed a problem faced by U.S. healthcare leaders, who are currently unaware as to how transformational leadership and organizational culture can impact job satisfaction in an industry with high burnout and low satisfaction levels. The following research questions were posed: (1) Is there a statistically significant relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction in the U.S. healthcare industry? (2) Is there a statistically significant relationship between organizational culture and job satisfaction in the U.S. healthcare industry? (3) Is the relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction in the U.S. healthcare industry mediated by organizational culture? Data to answer the research questions were collected through simple random sampling processes that resulted in a sample of 111 American healthcare employees and analyzed with Stata software. The main finding of the study was that an apparent effect of transformational leadership on job satisfaction disappeared when organizational culture variables were taken into consideration. The results suggest that healthcare organizations should attempt to move away from externally focused cultures in order to increase job satisfaction. Such a move could improve social outcomes by improving the quality of work for millions of stressed American healthcare employees.

Test anxiety constitutes a serious academic impediment to lots of students in schools. This study investigated the Effects of Meditation technique on test anxiety among secondary school students in Anambra State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Quasi-experimental research was adopted in carrying out the study. A sample size of 101 adolescents was chosen from a population of 475 adolescents in SS2 with test anxiety. The sample was derived from two schools selected using purposive sampling technique based on the number of students that scored high on Test Anxiety Inventory. Data relating to research questions were analysed using statistical Mean while data relating to hypothesis was analysed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings from the study revealed among others that though the reduction of secondary school students’ test anxiety after meditation technique differed significantly with that of the conventional counselling group, meditation technique was not effective on secondary school students’ test anxiety. It further revealed that meditation technique reduced the secondary school students’ test anxiety. Based on the findings, implications of the study were noted and recommendations made that since the technique meditation was found not to be effective, but significantly reduced the test anxiety of the participants, the technique should not be used alone by the guidance counsellors in helping clients, especially students in overcoming their test anxiety in schools.

Marriages being a legal union between a man and a woman that is supposed to produce a satisfactory relationship in which the couple involved can experience marital satisfaction. This study sought to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and marital satisfaction of married teachers in Anambra state. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study while one null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. Correlational research design was used in conducting the study. A sample size of 1,344 married teachers was drawn from a population of 6,987 married teachers in Anambra state public secondary schools. A multi-stage sampling procedure was followed selecting the sample. Two instruments: General Self-efficacy Scale and Index of Marital Satisfaction (IMS) were adopted and used for data collection. The instruments are standardised measures and have the following reliability coefficient; 0.96 for IMS, 0.87 and for GSS. Data was collected through direct delivery approach. Data collected were analysed using SPSS version 23. Pearson correlation coefficients and regression analysis were used to answer research questions and test the hypotheses. Findings of the study showed among others that there is very low or no relationship existing between married teachers’ Self-efficacy belief and their marital satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended, among others that counselors interested in marriage therapy should empower married teachers to follow behaviour and activities that foster marital happiness through occasional lectures and counselling sessions. <p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0796/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

The purpose of this study was to ascertain principals’ learning resources managerial practices for the implementation of entrepreneurship studies in public and private secondary school in Anambra State. One research question and one hypothesis guided the study. This study was conducted in public and private secondary school in Anambra State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The population for this study is 16,727 respondents made up of 481 principals and 9,697 teachers from the 481 private secondary schools and 256 principals and 6,293 teachers from the 256 public secondary schools in Anambra state. The sample size for this study is 1,332 respondents drawn from public and private secondary schools in Anambra state. The multi-stage sampling technique was utilized to arrive at the sample size. The first stage involved randomly drawing three education zones out of the six education zones in Anambra state. Accordingly, Aguata, Awka, and Nnewi zones were drawn using simple random sampling technique balloting with replacement. The second stage involved the use of proportionate stratified sampling technique to draw 74 secondary schools from the three education zones, consisting of 26 public and 48 private secondary schools. Each zone was regarded as a stratum. From each stratum, 10% of principals and teachers were sampled from the public and private secondary schools in the stratum. Researcher-developed instrument was the instrument for data collection. The validity of the instrument was determined using three lecturers. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined using respondents from Enugu State

The persistent decline in the quality of education in Nigeria in general and in Anambra state in particular gives serious cause for concern. Something has to be done about it and urgently too. This prompted the study to analyze principals’ management activities for sustainable quality assurance in secondary schools in Anambra state. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised all the 257 public secondary school principals in Anambra State. No sampling was done due to the relatively small size of the population of the study. A 21-item questionnaire titled ‘‘Analysis of Principals’ Management Activities for Sustainable Quality Assurance Questionnaire (APMASQAQ)’’ was the instrument for data collection. The instrument was subjected to face validation by three experts from Faculty of Education, NnamdiAzikiwe University. Cronbach alpha method was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. The overall coefficient of 0.84 was obtained.  Mean was used to answer the research questions, while Z-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study, among others revealed that principals’ students’ academic performance monitoring activities for sustainable quality assurance in secondary schools in Anambra state was low. It also revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean ratings of male and female principals on the extent of their engagement in management activities for sustainable quality assurance in secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that principals should encourage the teachers to take the continuous assessment exercise very serious and also make provisions for learners with special learning needs to bring about all inclusive learning.

The study investigated the relationship between Organizational Identity and Public and Private Senior Secondary School Effectiveness in South West Nigeria. To put the study on course, three hypotheses were formulated. In the same vein, three separate instruments were designed and constructed to collect pertinent data namely the School Identity Questionnaire (SIQ), the School Effectiveness Questionnaire (SEQ) and Performance Records of Students in West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). While the first instrument measured identity, the other two simultaneously measured effectiveness. There was a total sample of 2,400 students from 120 sample schools at 20 students per 20 schools in each of the six South West States – Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo. Also, a total of 120 principals participated in the study. The Questionnaires were subjected to content and construct validity as well as split-half reliability test. The reliability coefficient for the SIQ was found to be 0.86 and for the SEQ was 0.90. The data were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis employing the Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient Analysis to test Hypotheses 1and 2, and the Analysis of Variance to test Hypothesis 3. Results of the analysis indicate that there is no significant relationship between organizational identity and school effectiveness in the two categories of schools separately, public and private. However, a significant relationship was found to exist between organizational identity and school effectiveness in private schools only when WASSCE Results were used as a measure of effectiveness. Results also show that a significant difference exists in organizational identity and school effectiveness between public and private senior secondary schools irrespective of the instrument used in measuring effectiveness. Recommendations were then made, in the light of the results, among which are that some degree of autonomy should be given to senior secondary schools for them to grow and develop their identity and effectiveness and, that the identity and effectiveness should regularly be monitored and measured for school improvement purposes.
