This chapter presents three proposed theoretical frameworks that can be usefully applied in working in the field of child sexual abuse (CSA). It argues that the functions of empathy, social support and socialisation, and ecological theories can offer a theoretical framework to deal with the challenges associated with CSA and offers improved guidance for practice. The chapter then outlines three possible practice examples that could emerge from such an approach. In the discussion, the chapter considers how these three theoretical considerations can come together to offer direction for improving how CSA is understood and responded to with an emphasis on improving outcomes for children who experience sexual abuse. The discussion also looks at how these theoretical approaches can promote a preventative approach that tackles social and cultural as well as individual factors that result in such harmful abuse of children that it often has life-long negative impacts.

The purpose of the article is to examine the main risks and threats to social stability in Russia caused by COVID-19 and other social problems associated with the internal and external situation, as well as to present the program of actions of the state as adequate responses to these challenges, implemented in the state social policy. The subject of the research is unprecedented measures related to the isolation of the population caused by COVID-19, multiple resources of social support for various social strata and groups of the population. The theoretical approaches to the formation of social states are considered. The authors note that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to adjust or revise the goals, content, and fundamental principles of social policy. It is noted that public health has become a priority during the pandemic. The social role of the state has increased many times over, developing and implementing new measures of social support for citizens. The need to revise the approaches of Russia's social policy in order to effectively counter such threats in the future is quite obvious. As a result, the accents of the transformation of the state's solution to social problems are presented, taking into account changes in the contours of the welfare state.

The article examines the socio-economic, socio-cultural and epistemological reasons of actualization of research interest to the humanitarian aspects of health and well-being. It analyzes the main theoretical models of psychological health arising from the recognition of the determining influence of social factors and the importance of cultural determinants in the analysis of the humanitarian aspects of health; particular attention is paid to the modern status of a special area of knowledge of health psychology. There are three main levels of factors affecting psychological health and subjective well-being: 1) macro, which includes a number of objective and subjective indicators (the level of economic development of the region, and subjective economic well-being of the population; the level of social protection of the population  and  its  subjective  evaluation,  etc.);  2) social-psychological,  among  which the structural and dynamic features of social networks, the stylistic characteristics of the communication opportunities of social support; 3) the personality, including resilience, the nature of self, dominant emotional state, the characteristics of personal and social identity. It is emphasized that although among the criteria of psychological health of particular importance is the degree of integration of the personality and its focus  on  self-development,  the  nature  of  psychological  health  is  closely  linked to socio-psychological   aspects   of   human   existence:   a   harmonious   integration in the society, successful socialization, the presence of strong social ties and social support are integral to psychological health.

The Job Demand-Control and Job Demand-Control-Support (JDCS) models constitute the theoretical approaches used to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of labor and occupational health. Few studies have investigated the main effects and multiplicative model in relation to the perceived occupational health of professional accountants. Accountants are subject to various types of pressure in performing their work; this pressure influences their health and, ultimately, their ability to perform a job well. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of job demands on the occupational health of 739 accountants, as well as the role of the moderator that internal resources (locus of control) and external resources (social support) have in occupational health. The proposed hypotheses are tested by applying different models of neural networks using the algorithm of the Extreme Learning Machine. The results confirm the relationship between certain stress factors that affect the health of the accountants, as well as the direct effect that the recognition of superiors in occupational health has. Additionally, the results highlight the moderating effect of professional development and the support of superiors on the job’s demands.

Abstract. Conflict avoidance increases across the adult lifespan. This cross-sectional study looks at conflict avoidance as part of a mechanism to regulate belongingness needs ( Sheldon, 2011 ). We assumed that older adults perceive more threats to their belongingness when they contemplate their future, and that they preventively react with avoidance coping. We set up a model predicting conflict avoidance that included perceptions of future nonbelonging, termed anticipated loneliness, and other predictors including sociodemographics, indicators of subjective well-being and perceived social support (N = 331, aged 40–87). Anticipated loneliness predicted conflict avoidance above all other predictors and partially mediated the age-association of conflict avoidance. Results suggest that belongingness regulation accounts may deepen our understanding of conflict avoidance in the second half of life.

Abstract. Background: According to the strain theory of suicide, strains, resulting from conflicting and competing pressures in an individual's life, are hypothesized to precede suicide. But social support is an important factor that can mitigate strains and lessen their input in suicidal behavior. Aims: This study was designed to assess the moderating role of social support in the relation between strain and suicidality. Methods: A sample of 1,051 employees were recruited in Beijing, the capital of China, through an online survey. Moderation analysis was performed using SPSS PROCESS Macro. Social support was measured with the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and strains were assessed with the Psychological Strains Scale. Results: Psychological strains are a good predictor of suicidality, and social support, a basic need for each human being, moderates and decreases the effects of psychological strains on suicidality. Limitations: The cross-sectional survey limited the extent to which conclusions about causal relationships can be drawn. Furthermore, the results may not be generalized to the whole of China because of its diversity. Conclusion: Social support has a tendency to mitigate the effects of psychological strains on suicidality.
