Tourism is essential to Africa’s economic growth, yet it is constrained by the limitations of the airline industry. The African airline industry faces challenges which inhibit its ability to provide the level of air transport connectivity demanded to fully realise the potential of tourism, into and within, Africa. This study proposes a synoptic model which will enable the impact of the African airline industry’s challenges to be assessed in terms of their effect on the tourism industry. This then lays the groundwork for a remediation strategy. In this qualitative study, data was collected through C-Suite face-to-face interviews with purposively selected senior managers in the airline industry. The study revealed the key challenges facing the African airline industry and proposed a conceptual model to enable informed decisions for improving airline connectivity. The major contribution of the study is the development of a proposed African Air connectivity Model which quantifies a connectivity measure as a proxy for distance in the gravity model of trade.

The COVID-19 pandemic is considered different from previous pandemics because of the extent and number of people infected. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has made almost all joints of the world economy sluggish, as a result it is estimated that the world economy will be in a recession. This also applies in Indonesia, where economic growth is not as expected. One of the sectors most impacted by this virus is the tourism industry and its derivatives, so it is very important to know and determine the right strategy in managing and seeing tourism opportunities in the midst of the pandemic and the aftermath as an effort to develop the world of sustainable tourism. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of tourist satisfaction and perceived quality on the intention of halal tourism in the midst of a pandemic and in the future. Research on travel intentions in the midst of a pandemic, especially during the COVID-19 period, is still very limited, so that it will have an impact in the future, so further research needs to be carried out in a different context from the limitations of previous research. The research stages include; data observation, determining the main problem, the purpose of the activity, literature study, data collection, data processing, analysis of results, and evaluation of research results. This research is based on the theoretical framework of Destination Attributes and Perceived Quality. This study seeks to analyze the intentions of tourists traveling in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic among the people of Aceh, Indonesia, and world tourists who travel to Banda Aceh City, Aceh Province. The data analysis method used a partial least squares (PLS) statistical approach with the structural equational model (SEM) method to see the direct and indirect effects (mediation). The findings of this study are expected to contribute to more effective planning for restoring the tourism business, specifically halal tourism and for the development of measures for destination attributes and visitor satisfaction and security in tourism services, now and in the future. The outputs in this study consist of research reports, articles in accredited national journals and produce HKI (copyright). The resulting TKT level of research is TKT 3.

The success of organisational change processes can be significantly enhanced by effectively addressing resistance to change among a range of stakeholders as well as the impact of their resistance. There is, however, limited research on the relationship between stakeholders’ level of power and their propensity to resist change in a certain manner. This study therefore explored the interrelationships between stakeholders’ perceived level of power and their type of resistance, via face-to-face, in-depth interviews with fifteen professional change agents from three sample groups comprising change consultants, internal human resource managers and internal senior managers, all of whom had led change interventions. The findings revealed surprising trends in that certain stakeholder groups showed resistance more actively and overtly than others in direct proportion to their levels of power. These results culminated in a conceptual framework on stakeholders, power and resistance. This article highlights important implications for managers and change practitioners.

Since the United States deregulated its airline industry with the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the international air transport industry has been on a path toward market liberalization. Market changes have included entry, capacity, and pricing freedom as well as increased levels of foreign ownership. The recent terrorist acts of September 11, 2001 have the potential to alter, if not reverse this course. This paper examines the forces fueling the trend toward liberalization and analyzes the impact of recent events on the future prospects of open aviation markets.

The COVID-19 crisis has transformed the delivery of services and goods by public, private, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), with one of the largest impacts being in air transport systems. This paper focuses on related opportunities and challenges within air freight transport management, exploring sustainability in light of recent, heavy human and economic costs across the world. There is, in the resulting process of recovery, the potential to create changes in the airline industry and across a number of private and public partnerships that will improve long-term environmental, social, and economic sustainability and stability. This paper also describes the impact of the current environment on air cargo operations to include the role of significantly reduced airline schedules on overall air cargo capacity. It considers the potential role of government in providing the infrastructure for collaboration between sectors, addressing the goals of sustainability, efficiency, effectiveness, and citizen responsiveness. NGOs provide a voice for community groups in ways that governments and corporations may not. Efficient markets link producers at various stages to consumers through global and local supply chains. Integrating key concepts from sustainable development and logistics, this paper explores short-run and long-run planning required by each of the three sectors to tackle the immediate shortfalls in global transportation by air. It then investigates urgent but longer-term environmental issues tied to air transport, such as global climate change, air pollution, and the nonrenewable nature of fossil fuels. Many of the infrastructural changes in the airline industry may offer solutions across public administration. With the tremendous impact of air transport on a number of other goods and services, carefully constructed solutions may have sustainability benefits across industries. As the tragedies of COVID-19 inevitably shake the foundations of organizational systems in all three sectors, this paper offers recommendations for advancing opportunities for a more efficient freight supply industry that minimize negative impacts through sustainable development.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education announced in early March 2020 that all universities’ teaching and learning (TL) processes must be conducted entirely online until the end of the year to prevent Covid-19 from spreading. This change has drastically altered the way teachers teach and students learn, and as a result, the impact on both lecturers and students has been enormous. This study aimed to compare students’ performance in the Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ENT300) subject at UiTM Cawangan Terengganu when using an online learning approach as against a traditional face-to-face approach. Many scholars agreed that the face-to-face approach is more effective and gives students more fulfilment than the online method because students prefer to see and hold paper-based reading material and the satisfaction derived from experiencing the lessons live. This descriptive study data was taken from two different learning approaches, face to face and online distance learning (ODL) classes, and the results showed that students’ performance is better when lessons are conducted face to face, proving that the difference in teaching and learning approach has an effect on the students’ grades.
