With the aim of reviving the traditions of mercy and providing assistance to practical health care, a volunteer movement “Volunteers-doctors” was created in 2013, which in 2016 received the official status of an All-Russian public organization.The volunteer movement of students of the St. Petersburg Medical College — structural unit of Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University (PGUPS) is considered. The activity of medical volunteers is analyzed, their active participation in charitable actions and events is shown. The results of a survey of medical students to identify attitudes towards volunteering are given: what motivates volunteers in their desire to work for free; to what extent young people are informed about the activities of volunteer organizations and are they ready to volunteer themselves. The importance of the volunteer movement in the training of future specialists in the field of medicine is determined.The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that it made it possible to identify potential volunteers wishing to engage in volunteer work among students studying at the medical college of PGUPS. In the course of the questionnaire survey, it became clear that students in general perceive volunteering positively, therefore it is necessary to develop systematic work with young people in this direction, primarily informational.

The article examines the problems of private medicine in the health care system of the country. The aim of the article is to determine the structural components of the mechanism of activation of the private medical sector as a reserve for the provision of quality and affordable medical services and a driver for the development of the medical industry. The descriptive-analytical method, methods of analysis and synthesis, comparison, statistical, analysis and scientific generalization were used in the paper. The study substantiates the strengthening of the role of the private medical sector in the health care management system. The key problems of the domestic private medical sector and the restraining factors of its development are identified. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop a mechanism to promote the development of private medicine through a policy of active change in the health care system. The directions of activation of the private medical sector as a target reference point in the process of determining the structural elements of the organizational and economic mechanism are outlined. The structural detail of the mechanism of activation of the private medical sector for optimization of the health care system is offered. The practical significance of the obtained results is that the results of the research presented in the article are a practical basis for the development and improvement of mechanisms of public administration in the field of health care.

Nosocomial infections (NIs) are one of the most important health issues, particularly in developing countries, because these infections cause high mortality and morbidity, and economic and human resource loss as a consequence Nosocomial infections can be defined as those occurring within 48 hours of hospital admission, 3 days of discharge or 30 days of an operation. Many studies have examined risk factors of nosocomial infections. However, knowledge of frontline workers (attendants) in infection prevention have been reported rarely in developing countries. The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge of attendants working in different wards and OPDs about infection prevention. S: Data were collected from 100 attendants in Chitwan Medical College Teaching Hospital. Regarding the knowledge on hand washing, gloving and personal accessories for Infection Prevention, majority of the respondents had good knowledge ranging from 94-100%. Though hospital has established Infection Prevention Committee and regular training on infection prevention is provided to all the staffs, the data indicated that only 68% respondents were benefitted by the infection prevention training and proper use of virex solution to disinfect the equipment’s was found unsatisfactory. Infection control is the responsibility of all Health Care Facility (HCF) personnel. The goal of the infection control policies are to identify and reduce risks of acquiring and transmitting infections among patients, staff, students, volunteers, contract service workers, and visitors Although significant effort has been made to reduce the Nosocomial infections, regular training as well as monitoring supervision will enhance the capacity of the health care providers and front line workers for cleaning services they are our valued respondents.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/jcmc.v6i1.55069

AimsThe aim of this literature review is to explore the range of factors that influence the degree of access to health care services by children and young people with learning disabilities.BackgroundChildren with learning disabilities are at increased risk of a wide range of health conditions comparing with their peers. However, recent reports by UK government as well as independent charities working with children and young people with learning disabilities demonstrated that they are at risk of poor health outcomes as a result of barriers preventing them from accessing most appropriate services.MethodsComprehensive searches were conducted in six databases. Articles were also obtained through review of references, a search of the grey literature, and contacting experts in the field. The inclusion criteria were for studies evaluating access to healthcare services, identification and communication of health needs, organisational aspects impacting on access and utilisation, staff attitudes where they impacted on access, barriers, discrimination in patients with intellectual disabilities age 0–18. The literature search identified a sample of 36 papers. The marked heterogeneity of studies excluded conducting a meta-analysis.ResultsBarriers to access included problems with identification of healthcare needs by carers and healthcare professionals, communication difficulties, the inadequacy of facilities, geographical and physical barriers, organisational factors such as inflexible appointment times, attitudes and poor knowledge base of healthcare staff.ConclusionThe factors identified can serve as a guide for managers and clinicians aiming to improve access to their healthcare services for children and young people with intellectual disabilities.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

AbstractFor young people still at school, the school setting is vital to their mental health and wellbeing. Not only does the school environment have a direct and indirect impact on mental health, it provides an opportunistic setting in which to identify and respond to emerging mental health problems. To do this effectively, schools and school staff must work in collaboration with the young people themselves, their families, and other support services within the community, particularly primary health care services, including general practice. The importance of developing effective partnerships and care pathways between schools and the primary health care sector is being increasingly acknowledged, and initiatives such as MindMatters Plus GP have advanced our understanding in this area.
