In this article, we provide a framework for analyzing and interpreting sources that inform a literature review or, as it is more aptly called, a research synthesis. Specifically, using Leech and Onwuegbuzie’s (2007, 2008) frameworks, we delineate how the following four major source types inform research syntheses: talk, observations, drawings/photographs/videos, and documents. We identify 17 qualitative data analysis techniques that are optimal for analyzing one or more of these source types. Further, we outline the role that the following five qualitative data analysis techniques can play in the research synthesis: constant comparison analysis, domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and theme analysis. We contend that our framework represents a first step in an attempt to help literature reviewers analyze and interpret literature in an optimally rigorous way.

Onwuegbuzie, Leech, and Collins (2012) demonstrated how the following 5 qualitative data analysis approaches can be used to analyze and to synthesize information extracted from a literature review: constant comparison analysis, domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and theme analysis. In a similar vein, Onwuegbuzie and Frels (2014) outlined how discourse analysis can be used. Thus, the purpose of this article is to provide a framework for using another qualitative data analysis technique to analyze and to interpret literature review sources—a process that we call a Qualitative Comparative Analysis-Based Research Synthesis (QCARS). Using a real review of the literature, we illustrate how to conduct a QCARS using a qualitative comparative analysis software program.

The analysis of data represents the most important and difficult step in the qualitative research process. Thus, recently, a few authors have written methodological works that contain discussion of an array of qualitative data analysis approaches. Yet, despite the call of Leech and Onwuegbuzie (2007) a decade ago for qualitative researchers to analyze a given set of qualitative data in multiple ways, this practice has been largely ignored. Thus, in this article, we bolster the argument for conducting multiple data analyses. In particular, we use data stemming from an interview to demonstrate how using five qualitative data analysis approaches (e.g., constant comparison analysis, discourse analysis) helped to enhance what we refer to as analysis saturation, thereby increasing verstehen (i.e., understanding).

This research was conducted due to the low level of numeracy ability in children of group B in TK Kemala Bhayangkari 13 Padangsidimpuan. The formulation of the problem under study was how to improve children's numeracy skills through numeric media. The research conducted was classroom action research consisting of two observations, each of which consisted of 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were children of group B in TK Kemala Bhayangkari 13 Padangsidimpuan by using observation sheets. The data analysis used was qualitative data analysis techniques that can be seen from children's numeracy skills and quantitative data were calculated by formula. The results obtained in children's numeracy skills have increased. Before the action was taken, the level of numeracy ability of children was still very low, after the first cycle of research was obtained 44% and in the second cycle increased to 88%. After conducting research starting from pre-cycle, cycle I, cycle II, it was concluded that the numeracy ability of group B children in TK Kemala Bhayangkari 13 Padangsidimpuan had increased.

The purpose of this study was to produce a video storyboard guide for bread processing practicum and the feasibility level of a practical guide video storyboard in a Bread Processing practicum course. This research uses research and development methods, conducted with the development of practicum guide video storyboards. Data collection techniques through interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques using quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The procedure for developing instructional media is carried out by preparing an outline of the contents of the material, preparing a description of the material and preparing a storyboard. Furthermore, validation of the assessment by material experts, media experts, learning experts to assess the feasibility of the contents of the storyboard. The results of the expert material assessment showed that the storyboard was feasible, the assessment of the storyboard media experts in the feasible category, the assessment of the learning expert was very feasible to be developed into a practicum guidance video.
