This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of Teaching Indonesian-English Combined Task to improve students’ skills in writing English sentences. It was undertaken in PDF Ulya As’adiyah Putri Sengkang in Academic Year 2016/2017. It applied pre-experimental method. Writing test was employed as the instrument of the research. The population of this research was 16 students. The technique of data collection involved giving pre-test to know the writing skills gained previously of the students and post-test after giving the treatment to know how the skills of the students in writing English sentences by using Indonesian-English combined task. The result of the calculation of the students’ score indicated that the mean score of the students’ pre-test was (55.25) which was classified as fair classification and the mean score of the students’ post-test was (73,93) as good classification. The value of paired sample test for post-test was greater than the t-table (10,239>2.131). In short, teaching Indonesian-English combined task is effective to improve students’ skills in writing English sentences.

  This study aimed to investigate the effect of anonymous peer assessment on students’ writing ability. Quantitative approach was used in this study. Post-test only control group design was the design used in this experimental study. The post-test only control group design was designed to discover the purpose of this study which was to investigate the significant effect on writing ability between students who obtain feedback from anonymous peer assessment and students who obtain feedback from conventional assessment. The study was conducted at SMK PGRI 1 Singaraja. The eleventh grade students in Academic Year 2017/2018 were chosen as the population. The samples were 44 students from XI AP and XI UPW. The instruments used in this study were lesson plan, anonymous peer checklist, writing scoring rubric, and writing test. Writing scoring rubric and writing test were used to obtain the data through post-test while lesson plan and anonymous peer assessment were used during the treatment. The data then was analyzed by using SPSS 16. The results of the analysis show that (1) the mean score of the experimental group was 77.55 while the mean score of the control group was 68.77. (2) The t-observe was 3.892 and it exceeded the t-critical value which was 2.018. Therefore, based on the aforementioned results, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference on writing ability between the eleventh grade students who obtained feedback from anonymous peer assessment and those who obtained feedback from conventional assessment at SMK PGRI 1 Singaraja in academic year 2017/2018. 


By adopting a Dick and Carey model, thepurpose of this study was to develop a multimedia humour model for the teaching of Malay narrative writing and test the effectiveness of the model in the classroom. This study was conducted to a group of 29 students at SekolahMenengahKebangsaan Syed Mashor, Batang Kali, Selangor. The research design was quasi experimental involving single group pre-test and post-test design. Following this design, participants were selected, pre-tested, and exposed to the multimedia video (animation) and then post-tested. The instrument used in this research was the writing test on Malay narrative focusing on cleanliness. Descriptive quantitative analysis was employed on the findings (frequency, percentage and mean) followed by a comparison of pre-test and post-test. The findings show that there were significant differences between the pre and post-test. In the post-test, the mean score for the participants after receiving the intervention were higher than the mean scores for the pre-test. The findings also reveal that the use of visual images (animation), sound and graphic through multimedia video for teaching Malay narrative writing help the students to improve their vocabularies and writing skills. Thus, teachers may also adopt this type of learning approach to attract student’s attention towards the subject and hence, improve their academic performance of a particular subject.

The study aimed to answer how the Constructivism approach can improve students' learning outcomes of adding fraction material in fourth-grade students of Madrasah Ibtidayah Tukangan, Ampel District, Boyolali Regency, Academic Year 2015/2016. This Classroom Action Research was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle has four stages, namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The data collection methods used were post-test observation sheets and documentation. The findings of this study revealed that the implementation of the Constructivism Approach can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes in adding fractions. This increase occurred from the first, and second cycles with the results of the Pre-test and Post-test have increased. In the first cycle, the mean score of the pre-test was 61.67, while the post-test was 68.88. In the second cycle, the mean score of the pre-test was 75, and the post-test was 88.89. Therefore, the mean score of pre-test, and post-test was increased by 13.89 or 22.23%. The increase of the mean score on the Pre-test and Post-test showed that the Constructivism approach can improve student learning outcomes.

The objectives of the research were to investigate whether or not creating a comfortable classroom by VAK learning styles as a technique has significant effects for early childhood in learning English and whether or not the students are interested in creating a comfortable Classroom by VAK Learning Styles as a technique in Learning English. This research employed a pre-experimental method by using one group pre-test and post-test design, where the writer did an experiment in a single group only. The population of this research was the students of TK Tri Putri in Makassar Suburb academic year 2019/2020. This research used purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 34 students. Those students should be 5-6 years old. The data was collected by using a writing test and observation checklist. The findings showed that there was an improvement in the students’ English ability after the treatment. The students’ result of the posttest was more significantly improved than the students’ result of the pretest by the mean score of 81.18 > 50.12. The difference of both scores was statistically significant based on the t-test value at significant level 0.05 in which the P-value is lower than the significant level (0.000 < 0.05). The mean score of the students’ interest in cycle 2 was 80 and it was categorized as interested classification.

This paper attempted to examine the efficacy of the Probing-Prompting Technique in teaching speaking skills to young beginner English learners. This study employed the experimental method with a pre-experimental design. The subjects of this study were English learners age 16 to 19 in Palopo City who were chosen using a purposive sampling technique to select the active learners. Using the oral presentation task, the writers compiled three aspects of the learner's score, i.e. accuracy, fluency, and comprehensibility. The experimental teaching was conducted in six meetings, preceded by a pre-test and ended by a post-test. The pre-test found that the learners’ speaking skill ability is low (mean score: 25.75). In post-test, the authors found that the learners’ language ability substantially improved. Some learners get significant improvement in every aspect of speaking skills, i.e. fluency, accuracy, and comprehensibility. The strategy also contributed to the increase in the mean score (51.50). As a result, the writers concluded that Probing-Prompting Strategy successfully improves the learners’ speaking skills. It is proven by the result of the paired-sample test which showed that t-count (7,584) is higher than t-table (2,365).

This study was conducted in order to investigate the effectiveness of trait based assessment on teaching writing skill for EFL learners. Designed as pre-experimental study with one group pretest and posttest design, it examined 20 students of the second semester of English Department of Hamzanwadi University in the academic year 2016/ 2017 as the samples. Purposive sampling technique was used in determining the samples. Writing test and analytical scoring rubric were the instruments used to collect the data. Then the data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test to test the hypothesis. The result of descriptive statistics analysis revealed that trait based assessment is effective on teaching writing skill for EFL learners since the mean score of posttest 60 was higher than mean score of pretest 28.20. While for hypothesis testing by using paired sample t-test at significance (2-tailed) value level was .000, it was lower than .05. Therefore, it means that the hypothesis of this study was accepted. In other word, trait based assessment was significantly effective in improving students’ writing skill.

The aim of the study was to examine the effectiveness of eclectic method to improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Keruak, focusing on (1) Is eclectic method effective in writing skill at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Keruak in the academic year 2016-2017? and (2) How is the effectiveness of the eclectic method to improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Keruak in the academic year 2016-2017?. The design of this research was a pre-experimental pre-test and post-test research. It means this research only applied the eclectic method to the experimental group that consisted of 36 students. The sample of the study was taken by using cluster random sampling technique. In gaining pre-test and post-test data, the students required to do the individual task in writing the monolog text of recount based on the material that was learnt before. Then the pretest and post-test data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Paired Sample t-test to test the hypothesis. Having collected and calculated the data by using descriptive statistics, it was found out that descriptive statistic results showed that the mean score of the pre-test was 7.21 while the mean of the post-test was 9.25. The result of hypothesis testing by using Paired-Sample t-test was t(27) = 11.68 at p = .000. It was lower than .05 so it means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other word that the use of eclectic method was significantly effective in writing skill to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Keruak in the academic year 2016-2017.

The objective of this study is to find out whether discussion starter story significantly improves the achievement on narrative text of the first grade students of Senior High School. This study was conducted by applying Clasroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this study is the first grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Pangururan in academic year of 2016/2017. The sample of this study is the students X-4 consisting 30 students. There were two kinds of collected data, quantitative and qualitative data. The technique for collecting the quantitative data was writing test while with qualitative data were gathered through interview, diary notes, and observation sheet. Qualitative data showed the students were interested in discussion starter story technique. Based on quantitative data it is found that students’ writing achivement improved from pre-test to post-test cycle I and post-test cycle II. It can be seen from the students’ mean scores and the percentage of the students who got score up to 75. The mean of the students’ scores who got score up to 75 for pre-test is 51.4 , for the post-test cycle I is 74 and post-test cycle II is 80.2. There was an improvement of the application of discussion starter story technique to teach writing narrative.

This research aims at analyzing students’ descriptive writing skills that engage the academic performance among the eleventh-year-students in the academic year of 2017-2018. This research applied for the quantitative method and involved 60 students of the eleventh year students of Islamic state high school (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1) Klaten as the respondents. Data collection used the students’ descriptive writing test. Data were statistically analyzed the SPPS program to gain the descriptive analyses. The finding showed that the overall achievement of students’ organization component was in the average level with 73.3% respondents, mechanics component was in the average level with 66.7% respondents, evidence component was in the average category with 46.7% respondents, and sentence structure component was in the average level with 55% respondents. The lowest score gained in descriptive writing was sentence structure (M = 2.533; SD = .700) and and the highest score was on organization component (M = 2.733; SD = .446). This research concludes that students’ descriptive wrting skills laid on the average category.

This research aims at finding the effectiveness of Toondoo Comic in teaching speaking at the second semester of <em>Sendratasik</em> Study Program of Hamzanwadi University in the academic year 2018-2019. This research was a pre experiment by using single group pre-test and post-test design. The population of the study was 47 students from A and B classes. The sample of the study was 17 students from class A. It was taken through purposive random sampling. A speaking test was used in collecting the data. The data collected were analyzed by using descriptive statistic, and paired sample t-test was used to test the hypothesis. It was performed using SPSS 22 for Windows. The result shows that the mean in the pre-test was 41.06 and was 60.71 in the post- test. Additionally, the hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test resulted significance (2-tailed) value level .000; it was lower than .05. This indicated that Toondoo comic was significantly effective in teaching speaking. Thus it is suggested that Tondoo comic is considered an alternative media in teaching and learning process.
