Purpose: The research objectives were to analyze the role of continuous improvement (CI) techniques in manufacturing in Oman in the CI process and to investigate the crucial factors of CI and the application techniques of CI that have been implemented by the manufacturing companies during the CI process. Design/methodology/approach: A survey questionnaire was developed with the baseline of CI practices used by manufacturing companies in Oman and a convenient sampling method was used to collect the data. 146 completely filled-in questionnaires were collected from 75 manufacturing units out of the entire Public Establishment database. The data was tabulated, compiled. The robustness was tested along with the ranking tests and the factor analysis using SPSS and AMOS. Findings: The results reveal that the Omani manufacturing companies using structured CI programs had lesser product recalls, leading to increased overall sales, decrease in processing time. Further, it is also revealed that the CI culture and Employee Performance Measurement and Review are instrumental in translating into company savings. Research limitations/implications: This research was limited to Sohar Industrial estate only. As there are nine industrial estates in Oman, the research can be undertaken to study the CI practices adoption in all the other industrial estates as well. Social implications: Countries from all over the world are facing numerous challenges due to COVID-19. The paper will help the manufacturing companies in decision making towards the process improvement. Originality/Value: There are not many studies on continuous improvement practices within the Omani manufacturing industry and this paper examines the status of CI implementation in manufacturing companies in Oman.

Purpose The aims of this study were to identify Continuous Improvement (CI) practices prevailing in the manufacturing companies with regards to Visual Management, Employee Engagement, Leadership and Risk Management; to identify continuous improvement tools that have been adopted by the manufacturing companies; and to analyze the critical success factors for implementing CI practices in manufacturing companies. Design/methodology/approach For this study, a survey questionnaire was used to collect the CI practices information from manufacturing companies in Oman. 146 samples were collected from 75 manufacturing units selected at random from the Public Establishment for Industrial Estate database. The data was analysed for reliability, robustness, ranking tests using Statistical Package for Social Statistics (SPSS). Findings The majority of the manufacturing firms were using only the CI program for the past five years. However, there was not substantial cost savings for these businesses. The overall sales increased, while the average processing time had declined and the product recalls also had increased. The most important factors identified for the effective implementation of CI in industrial firms were effective communication, top management encouragement, and employee involvement and conducive organization atmosphere. Social Implications Sultanate of Oman like any other GCC countries is undergoing a critical phase in economy because of the oil price plunge combined with ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The paper will be of use to academics, researchers and continuous improvement practitioners. Originality/value So far, very few studies have been conducted in analyzing the factors correlated to CI in the Omani context and no study was carried out before in exploring the CI application in the Sultanate of Oman.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review current continuous improvement implementation models and frameworks, and present a new conceptual framework tailored specifically to the needs of UK manufacturing companies. Design/methodology/approach The paper details the in-depth review of 20 existing models or frameworks for continuous improvement implementation, demonstrating the need for a new industry and region specific solution. Through the incorporation of previous findings from literature, coupled with the positive aspects of the current offerings, a new conceptual framework for continuous improvement implementation in UK manufacturing companies is presented. Findings The paper demonstrates the need for industry and region specific frameworks and demonstrates that current models and frameworks do not completely fulfil the objective of the research. A new continuous improvement implementation framework is therefore presented in a user friendly format, comprising positive aspects of previous models and frameworks where applicable. Research limitations/implications The focus of the research is limited to the UK and the manufacturing industry. It is therefore not clear the applicability of the framework presented to other regions and industries. The framework presented is also conceptual at this stage and requires validation through interview and application. Practical implications The framework presented will provide senior managers wishing to implement continuous improvement an understanding of the high level process, as well as awareness of their role within the roll out. Overall, the framework provides a clear guide whilst also allowing for individual tailoring of the elements contained to the needs of the company. Originality/value The paper presents a new conceptual framework; the first to be tailored to the needs of UK manufacturing companies. The framework has also been demonstrated to be a more robust solution than those currently in existence.

Regional development and sustainable development can be done through strengthening various business units developed in certain industrial areas. Industrial estate development is expected to be able to refer to sustainable development by taking into account economic, social, ecological functions and complying with applicable regulations to improve business performance in manufacturing industry. The need for sustainable development in management of industrial estates, diversity of business units, and increasing distribution and management of value chains for business units need to be followed up more comprehensive. Integration of transportation, communication and trade networks in the form of modern logistics and supply chain management enables the production and distribution of global systems that can truly change the level of people's welfare. This research was conducted in three best industrial estates in Indonesia to be taken into consideration in development of 14 priority industrial estate outside the island of Java which has been declared by government. Corporate sustainability important to contribution in improving business performance in manufacturing industry, and will get optimal results if fully supported by diversification strategies, supply chain management and innovation strategies. This research is expected to contribute ideas especially related to business in industrial estates and urban development so that it can further increase understanding of the concepts studied through business performance and its impact on the company's sustainability in development of industrial estates.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the critical success factors of environmental management accounting practices in Malaysian manufacturing industry. Design/methodology/approach A pilot study was carried out on a sample of 60 manufacturing companies from Malaysian manufacturing industry. A survey instrument including 25 measurement items was designed to identify the level of environmental management accounting practices implementation in the Malaysian manufacturing industry. Descriptive statistical analysis and reliability analysis were used to analyze the data with SPSS software. Findings Findings indicate that environmental safety is one of the critical success factors that play the key role in ensuring the safety awareness at workplace. Companies in the manufacturing industries need to obtain critical success factors of environmental management accounting practices implementation to enhance performance, particularly for Malaysian manufacturing industry. Research limitations/implications The limitation of this study has been the difficult to find the literature on environmental management accounting practices in the Malaysian manufacturing industry. Another limitation is this study only conducted to 60 manufacturing companies from Malaysian manufacturing industry. Practical implications For practical implications, the development of instruments in this study may be valuable tools to evaluate Environmental Management Accounting Practices (EMAP) in Malaysian manufacturing industry. This study also provides important guidelines for Malaysian manufacturing industry to implement EMAP. This research finding would provide new insights for the critical success factors of EMAP to improve performance in Malaysian manufacturing industry. Originality/value This study makes a new contribution to environmental management accounting practices in Malaysian manufacturing industry. This study also provides important information for decision makers involved in environmental management accounting practices implementation and also provides useful reference for future researchers in this research area.

Under increasing pressure from competitors and consumers, vendor-managed inventory (VMI), which is believed to be conducive to reducing inventory costs and improving distribution and sales, has been a popular system particularly in the retail industry. This present study, by adopting the modified Delphi method, attempts to identify key success factors of VMI implementation in Taiwan manufacturing industry and examine impact of the identified factors. Through three rounds of expert questionnaires, it is found that excellent project management, organizational fit, information sharing, trialability, and top management commitment are the five most important factors in terms of VMI implementation in Taiwan manufacturing industry. Employee training, a good project team, exercise of power, and relative advantages are of secondary importance to Taiwan manufacturing industry. Finally, it is hoped that these identified factors may serve as a guide for manufacturing companies in implementing VMI more effectively and efficiently.

Industry Revolution 4.0 is an important upcoming concept for our current manufacturing industry. Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) can change the manufacturing industry to the next level and also enhance the image of the country. The purpose of this research is to study the readiness of the employees towards the implementation of IR4.0 in manufacturing industries in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The objective of the research is how the technology, changes in consumers’ behaviour and environment, and employee performance effect the readiness of employees in the manufacturing sector to implement IR4.0. The current problems are facing by Malaysia are the dependability of foreign labours for production in manufacturing industries and Malaysian manufacturing growth still stuck in Industry 2.0. This research is a quantitative method and used questionnaires to collect data. Total 333 questionnaires were distributed to manufacturing companies in Johor Bahru. Based on the regression analysis result, the relationship between the changes in consumers’ behaviour and environment and employee performance is compatible with the readiness of employees in implementing IR4.0. However, the relationship between technology and the dependent variable was less compatible. Therefore, our country should enhance the usage and level of technology to implement IR4.0 to enhance the readiness of employees in the manufacturing industry.

The objectives of this research are to know and to analyze about the effect of Continuous Improvement on the performance of employees at PT. Rentang Buana Niagamakmur (PT.RBN) Tasikmalaya. Research method which applied in this research is survey research method, while data collecting technique is done by through questionaire. Sampling technique applies sample is accidental sampling technique and the size sample is 55 respondents. Data analysis techniques used in the study is simple regression technique, analysis of the coefficient of determination  and t test. The results showed that the Continuous Improvement  including both criteria, including employee performance criteria, as well as Continuous Improvement  has a positive influence on employee performance of 76,4% in PT . Rentang Buana Niagamakmur (PT.RBN) Tasikmalaya.

This study aims to determine the determination of the cost of production for products produced by PT. DWA. The Company is engaged in the manufacturing industry specialized in automotive components. Its activity is carried out through a series of production processes, so that expenses spent in the production will be calculated into the cost of the production sold. The population in this study were all manufacturing companies in Jakarta. Convenience sampling method selected one of the companies that get the confidence to assemble three national car project in Indonesia, namely Timor, Bakrie and Maleo. Test analysis used in this study is to test the calculation of full costing with job order costing. This study shows that (a) determination of the cost elements associated with the cost of production and (b) determining the cost of production on a product-based job costing with full costing approach. Purpose: Analytics research is increasingly divided by the domains Analytics is applied to. Literature offers little understanding whether aspects such as success factors, barriers and management of Analytics must be investigated domain-specific, while the execution of Analytics initiatives is similar across domains and similar issues occur. This article investigates characteristics of the execution of Analytics initiatives that are distinct in domains and can guide future research collaboration and focus. The research was conducted on the example of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the respective domain-specific Analytics subfield of Supply Chain Analytics. The field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management has been recognized as early adopter of Analytics but has retracted to a midfield position comparing different domains.Design/methodology/approach: This research uses Grounded Theory based on 12 semi-structured Interviews creating a map of domain characteristics based of the paradigm scheme of Strauss and Corbin.Findings: A total of 34 characteristics of Analytics initiatives that distinguish domains in the execution of initiatives were identified, which are mapped and explained. As a blueprint for further research, the domain-specifics of Logistics and Supply Chain Management are presented and discussed.Originality/value: The results of this research stimulates cross domain research on Analytics issues and prompt research on the identified characteristics with broader understanding of the impact on Analytics initiatives. The also describe the status-quo of Analytics. Further, results help managers control the environment of initiatives and design more successful initiatives.

In recent years, manufacturing companies have been continuously engaging in research for the full implementation of smart factories, with many studies on methods to prevent facility failures that directly affect the productivity of the manufacturing sites. However, most studies have only analyzed sensor signals rather than text manually typed by operators. In addition, existing studies have not proposed an actual application system considering the manufacturing site environment but only presented a model that predicts the status or failure of the facility. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a real-world failure prevention framework that alerts the operator by providing a list of possible failure categories based on a failure pattern database before the operator starts work. The failure pattern database is constructed by analyzing and categorizing manually entered text to provide more detailed information. The performance of the proposed framework was evaluated utilizing actual manufacturing data based on scenarios that can occur in a real-world manufacturing site. The performance evaluation experiments demonstrated that the proposed framework could prevent facility failures and enhance the productivity and efficiency of the shop floor.
