The present study was carried out to determine the possible LC-MS and anti-microbial activity of plant extracts prepared from Muntingia calabura and phytochemical screening was demonstrated. The extracts from the plant parts like leaf were prepared in different solvents like petroleum ether, chloroform and ethanol. The highest antimicrobial potentials were observed for the ethanolic extracts against (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans) Its efficacy was comparable to the standard drug, amikacin. Significant amount of tannins, alkaloids, steroids and flavonoids were found. The present study provides evidence that solvent extract of M. calabura contains medicinally important bioactive compounds and this justifies the use of plant species as traditional medicine for treatment of various diseases. Likewise, the leaf extract of Muntingia calabura showed more zone of inhibition with fungus Candida albicans. This shows its antiseptic nature which might have been induced because of the components present.

The present study was carried out to determine the possible antifouling and anti microbial activity of plant extracts prepared from Muntingia calabura and phytochemical screening was demonstrated. The extracts from the following plant parts like stem, leaves, fruits, flower and stems were prepared in different aqueous solvents like ethanol, methanol, acetone, acetonitrile and water. The highest antimicrobial potentials were observed for the methanolic extracts against K. pneumonia, B. subtilis, B. megaterium and P. aeruginosa. Its efficacy was comparable to the standard drug, ampicillin. Significant amount of tannins, alkaloids, steroids and flavonoids were found. Interestingly, the present study showed anti fouling effect against pathogenic biofilm forming bacteria. These extracts also contain high hemagglutination activity. The present study provides evidence that solvent extract of M. calabura contains medicinally important bioactive compounds and this justifies the use of plant species as traditional medicine for treatment of various diseases.

Crinum defixum Ker - Gawler is a bulbous herb which has widely used in indigenous medicine for many diseases; mainly leaf and bulb extracts are of medicinal importance. Leaf extract is used as a treatment for pimples, body-ache, dropsy, carbuncle, paronychia, leprosy, fever and diarrhoea. The bulbs are crushed and applied on to piles and itching. The present study to determine the possible phytochemicals and antimicrobial activity of various leaf extracts of Crinum defixum Ker - Gawler plant. The phytochemical screening demonstrated the presence different types compound like flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds, saponins and glycosides. The ethanol, methanol and crude extracts of Crinum defixum Ker - Gawler showed significant antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa, proteus vulgaris and antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus when compare to different concentrations (μg/mL). The antimicrobial potential of test compounds was determined on the basis of mean diameter of zone of inhibition around the disk in millimetres. Thus, the present findings revealed the medicinal potential of Crinum defixum Ker - Gawler to develop a drug against various human ailments.

Tagetes erecta(African marigold) has various medicinal values. The present study has been undertaken to evaluate the effects of extracts of the fresh leaves and flowers of Tagetes erecta on oral ulcer models in Wistar albino rats. The anti-ulcer activity of the extracts of tagetes erecta (2.5% and 5%) was compared between the leaf and flower and also with the standard drug, Triamcinolone. Phytochemical screening of plant extract, extract action on oral ulcer and histopathology analysis were carried out. Tagetes erecta leaf and flower extracts have showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and carotenoids. Results showed that Tagetes erect leaf extract showed significant oral ulcer protective activity (83.6%)  when compared with the standard drug Triamcinolone. In the present work, it can be concluded that the hydro alcoholic leaf and flower extractHistopathologys of Tagetes erectagel have better potential against oral ulcer which supports the traditional claims in folklore medicine.

Introduction: The study on qualitative phytochemical screening and antifungal activities was evaluated on Cashew (Anacardium occidentale Linn.) leaf extracts using standard procedures. Objectives: With the view of evaluating its secondary metabolites and also assessing it’s antifungal activities. Methodology: The antifungal activities of the leaves extracts (aqueous and ethanol) were carried out using agar incorporation method at varying concentrations (20 mg/mL, 40 mg/mL, 60 mg/mL, 80 mg/mL and 100 mg/mL). The aqueous and ethanolic extracts were tested against Aspergillus niger and Rhizopus stolonifer (isolated from street vended sliced fruits). Results: The phytochemical screening revealed that A. occidentale leaf extracts (aqueous and ethanolic) contained; Tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, Cardiac glycosides, Glycosides, Saponins glycosides, Saponins, Steroids and Volatile oils with the exceptions of Anthraquines and Balsams. The result shows that aqueous extracts has no significant inhibitory activity when compared to the ethanolic extracts against A. niger (p =0.05). The highest mean zone of inhibition (38.00± 5.00 mm) was observed at 100 mg/mL concentration of the aqueous extract and the lowest mean zone of inhibition (12.67± 2.51 mm) was observed at 20 mg/mL concentration of the ethanol extracts against A. niger while R. stolonifer were highly resistant to both extracts. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the extract (MIC) was observed at 20 mg/mL for both extracts. Conclusion: Thus, the study showed that A. occidentale could be a possible source of obtaining new and effective drugs.

Background: Sclerocarya birrea is widely used in Nigerien communities for medicinal purposes to treat several gastrointestinal diseases including diarrhea. To lend credibility to its traditional use against diarrhea, laboratory studies were conducted. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the antibacterial activity and the phytochemical constituents of the crude extracts of root, bark and leaf of S. birrea. Materials and Methods: The collected different plant parts were air dried, powdered and separately extracted with ethanol and methanol. The alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin and tannin contents in all the plant parts were estimated using standard methods. The total and serially diluted fractions of the extracts were tested for antibacterial activity against selected enteropathogens by agar well diffusion and deep-well microdilution method. Results: Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoid, saponin and tannin in all the plant extracts. The extracts from the different parts showed varied antibacterial activity against the test bacteria. The bark extracts showed superior activity against Escherichia coli (zone of inhibition = 17 mm) and Salmonella typhi (zone of inhibition = 20 mm) at 200 mg/mL. Conclusion: The presence of important phytochemical groups and the antibacterial potential of alcoholic extracts of S. birrea could permit to justify its traditional usage against diarrhea.

Anxiety and Convulsion are the most prominent, crippled and cruel neurological diseases in recent times. There are many indigenous plants have beneficial properties to treat mental disease and psychic complaints. Evaluation of anxiolytic and anticonvulsant activity of leaf and root ethanolic extracts of mirabilis jalapa in rat models were carried out using standardized experimental methods. The dried leaves and root was macerated with ethanol separately and administered the discern dose of 200 mg/k g p.o. and 400mg/kg p.o. from each extract and employed in Elevated Plus Maze test (EPM) and Open field test (OFT) with 2mg/kg i.p of Diazepam as a standard drug to assess the anxiolytic activity. Maximal electroshock induced convulsion (MES) (Phenytoin-20mg/kg i.p as a standard drug) and Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) induced seizures analyzed where Diazepam (5mg/kg) i.p as a standard drug to assess the anticonvulsant activity. Substantial changes in all tested activities EPM, OFT in anxiety model and MES, PTZ in anticonvulsant model were observed. The results revealed that ethanol leaf extract (400 mg/kg p.o.) was more impetus due to the high amount of flavonoid, phenolic compounds, steroids, terpenoid contents possess tremendous anti-anxiety whereas the ethanol root extract (400 mg/kg p.o.) and ethanol leaf extract (400 mg/kg p.o.) produce significant anticonvulsant potential effect compared to the control and standard drug treatment group. This study suggested that the plant M. jalapa is a much more active compound consistent medicinal plant to derive a potent drug against anxiety and convulsion.

The present study deals with the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Canavalia gladiata. Antioxidant activity by nitric oxide and DPPH methods reveals that methanol extract of Canavalia gladiata shows good results when compared to the aqueous extract. It indicates that methanol extract of Canavalia gladiata shows maximum percentage of inhibition when compared to the standard drug (Ascorbic acid).Antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals, which are unstable molecules that are linked to the development of a number of degenerative diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disesase, cognitive impairment immune dysfunction, cataract and macular degeneration. Antibacterial activity by Agar well diffusion method reveals that methanol extract of Canavalia gladiata shows better results when compared to the aqueous extract. It indicates that methanol extract of Canavalia gladiata shows maximum zone of inhibition when compared to the the standard drug (chloramphenicol).
