VINCENT CARADEC

This article aims to present an overview of the issues surrounding ageing in contemporary French society. Firstly, it sets out the issues that are at the heart of public policy and that constitute the major current orientations of old age policies. Secondly, it discusses other societal issues that are not considered by public policies. In the third part, it adopts a micro-sociological point of view to look at the existential issues of ageing for people who are getting on in years. Finally, the conclusion provides an opportunity to discuss a fourth issue, which concerns the structuring of research in the Human and Social Sciences on ageing.

Objectives: The objective is to describe the informative value and the added value of a qualitative multiphase methodology in order to investigate the conceptions of children aged 6–11 on the determinants of health and cancer.Method: This article provides an analysis of the “Determ'Ados” research protocol, a qualitative study in human and social sciences, carried out with children aged 6–11 years. This protocol, organized in three phases, addresses in the first global health with the tool “e.Photoexpression©,” in the second questions and knowledge around the topic of cancer with the tool “QC” and in the third cancer again with the “Photonarration” tool. The methodology of this innovative, open and exploratory research protocol aims to collect data relating to the experiences, declared practices and knowledge specific to each child who express themselves through photography and storytelling. Results: The analysis of the Déterm'Ados methodology reveals a density and richness of results among all the children interviewed, even among the youngest: 1,498 productions (4 productions per child) were made by 381 children resulting in a wealth of data available thanks to the multiphase protocol. This massive qualitative survey brings complementarity as the collection phases progress and guarantees continuity in the discourse of each child which allows them to deepen their conceptions and to know how they create or not meaning between the determinants of health and cancer.Perspectives: The density and quality of the proposals collected from the children reinforce the validity and rigor of the Determ'Ados methodology. Multiphase is the innovative aspect of the tools used. The e.Photoexpression© and the Photonarration are complementary and inseparable to bring out concepts on health and cancer. These research results, transferable into interventions and current practices, present prevention officers to act more effectively, closer to the conceptions and needs of children.

Martin Heidegger (1889–1976) is one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century. His influence, however, extends beyond philosophy. His account of Dasein, or human existence, permeates the human and social sciences, including nursing, psychiatry, psychology, sociology, anthropology, and artificial intelligence. This chapter outlines Heidegger’s influence on psychiatry and psychology, focusing especially on his relationships with the Swiss psychiatrists Ludwig Binswanger and Medard Boss. The first section outlines Heidegger’s early life and work, up to and including the publication of Being and Time, in which he develops his famous concept of being-in-the-world. The second section focuses on Heidegger’s initial influence on psychiatry via Binswanger’s founding of Daseinsanalysis, a Heideggerian approach to psychopathology and psychotherapy. The third section turns to Heidegger’s relationship with Boss, including Heidegger’s rejection of Binswanger’s Daseinsanalysis and his lectures at Boss’s home in Zollikon, Switzerland.

We organized recently an international workshop in Greece, to confront our ideas about two major theories of Serge Moscovici. The theory of social representations (1961) and the theory of minority influence (1976). It was a question of tracing the perspectives of the legacy he had left us. This book is the collective trace of this work. It is organized in three parts. The first part deals with the epistemic and theoretical questions raised by Serge Moscovici’s work. It begins with a historical reminder of his contribution to the formation of the European Association of Social Psychology. The second part of the book presents recent developments in the theory of minority influence. The actual and potential developments of this theory is discussed. The third part is devoted to the theory of social representations. The topics discussed show that this theory has become a reference theory in social sciences for the analysis of societal issues. One could see in this book a form of homage to the work of Serge Moscovici. But it should above all be seen as a tribute to the liveliness and relevance of the theories he has bequeathed to us.

Also, the text seeks for understanding the way academic productivism, which is inspired in capitalist mode of production and linked to evaluation system of post-graduation programs. These, by their turn, emphasize the quantifier model of objective sciences and impose a wrong point of view of academical practices, specially in Human and Social Sciences. Human and Social Sciences, unless through a deviation of their foundation, get to be framed to the imposed model. Keywords: Currículo Lattes. Academial productivism. Evaluation.

Science-based biotechnology is now introducing fundamental changes in the status of life on earth which have major implications for human society, yet the social sciences are largely failing to address these changes. Biotechnology offers immense opportunities for advancing the quality of human life, holding promise for overcoming numerous and heretofore intractable causes of suffering and impoverishment. Moreover, it may enable mankind to enjoy the benefits of science without degradation of the biosphere. But to obtain these advantages biotechnology must be guided by wise and timely public policies. Even the most beneficent innovation may create problems that, unless anticipated and prevented, may offset or cancel out social gains.

Palavras-chave: Laboratórios Experimentais; Inovação Cidadã; Políticas Públicas; Cultura Digital.ABSTRACT The image of a citizen lab has been used to describe a vast and varied field of iniatives which in fact share organizational characteristics, as well as repertories, aspirations and methodologies. The same initiatives also maintain, nonetheless, considerable diversity, as a result of different processes of formation and consolidation. This arcle portrays the relatively recent history – of more than a decade – of Brazilian projects active in fields customarily associated with the scenario now usually belonging to citizen labs. To explore this panorama, I propose a brief compilation of previous work where I wrote about Brazilian digital culture, experimental labs and creative network arrangements, particularly from the point of view of public policies emanating from the Ministry of Culture. This historical overview suggests that a considerable part of the initiatives that now adopt the language of citizen innovation in Brazil has its roots in diverse, and older, sociocultural contexts. Recognizing and pointing out this heritage contributes to the relevance and effectiveness of citizen innovation projects, countering the relative novelty of this nomenclature. The article also brings up some recommendations previously directed to the elaboration of public policies of stimulus to the field of experimental laboratories, but which may also contribute to build eventual support for citizen innovation. Keywords: Experimental Laboratories; Citizen Innovation; Public Policy; Digital Culture.

Public policies, environment and local development: an analysis from the management plan in Vila Algodoal (PA, Brazil) ABSTRACT This article presents a debate on public policies associated to the environment. It presents as central objectives a survey of the concept of public policies from the point of view of the consolidation of the same as science, the revision of the historical context of the environmental movement and examples of public policies from the APA Algodoal-Maiandeua management plan, in the municipality of Maracanã do Pará. It is identified that, despite the good initiative of socio-environmental protection by the legislation established by the management plan observed at the APA Algodoal-Maiandeua, these policies are not in fact consistent with local development, since analyzing indicators such as occupation, water supply and sanitation, they demonstrate that they need to be improved, since an APA should integrate sustainable local development. This article reflects on the history of medicine as an academic discipline. It analyzes in particular the debates that took place in France between the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. The first part recalls the main features of the discussions about the history of medicine since it was identified as an autonomous discipline up to the epistemological turn that, in the middle of the 19th century, opposed partisans of a “philological and scientific” to partisans of a “heroic” history of medicine. The second part deals with the debates that began in France in the 1960s-1970s over the legitimacy of a history of medicine written by physicians, and the foundation of a history of medicine written by professional historians. The third part proposes a reflection on the future of research and teaching in this field in France, and highlights the need for cooperation between physicians and specialists in the human and social sciences.

The role of intellectuals in a turbulence era The present article addresses the crisis of directions of the modernity project, and it is under this comprehensive context, from the historical and philosophical point of view, that the Covid-19 pandemic is analyzed. The perception that the contemporary world is plunged into bewilderment, uncertainty and loss of social horizons is analyzed from a critical and purposeful perspective. With this proposal, the article seeks, above all, to deal with the role of intellectuals, in a context of crisis, emphasizing the concern with the function of the word. In view of the enormous evidence from the Natural Sciences, activated by the Covid-19 scenario to offer immediate answers, it is also called upon to activate the function that the Human and Social Sciences, and also Philosophy have to attribute meaning to the experience world, especially in stormy times. It defends the position that Philosophy has a primary function of defending the place of reason, and, especially in stormy contexts, it must represent a reflective place capable of setting the enlightenment. Keywords: Intellectuals. Human and Social Sciences. Pandemic.
