Abstract Integration of immigrants in their host societies is a key-issue on the refugee crisis throughout the world. Self-employment appears as means of survival representing the so-called necessity-driven entrepreneurship, which is rather common among immigrant survival strategies. Syrians in Brazil are the fourth largest nationality to seek refuge in the country. Therefore, the present paper aims at analyzing how ethnic and local networks of support are configured and influence the creation of new businesses, such as food stalls and restaurants. For that purpose, an exploratory study through in-depth interviews was conducted with Syrians in Rio de Janeiro, generating reflections on the institutional picture as well as the hosting conditions of the country. Key-findings include contingency factors showing evidences that social capital is more a function of brokerage across structural holes than closure within a network articulation, the family network importance as well as the establishment of a local support network. Keywords: immigration, refugee, Syrians, Brazil, self-employment.

This paper aims to identify and describe the survival strategies of women fishers in meeting the needs of family life in Muara Selotong and the distribution of marine products. In their role, women fishers do not only play a role in the domestic space but also participate to fulfill and increase income, so that they are sufficient for the family economy. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, research techniques include; participant observer and in-depth interviews. The results of the field research show that in helping the family's economy, women fisher in Muara Selotong work looking for shellfish, crabs and helping their husbands in looking for fish and shrimp. The technique of looking for shells and crabs uses the traditional way, namely by using a “Gancu” tool and watching the tides. For the sake of getting additional economics, some dare to do this work, even though they are not good at swimming. Economic demands and low levels of education are the main reasons for women to participate in helping the family economy because the income earned by men as heads of households is deemed insufficient. Women also have wider access and networks than men to distribute marine products. because women take on roles from the production stage to distribution in the market. It can be seen that the dual role of women is very helpful to meet the needs of the family.

Print media in the form of daily newspapers face a serious challenge with the presence of digital media. A number of print media organisations stopped publishing between 2005 and 2018. The challenges became more severe when the Covid-19 virus pandemic was declared to have existed in Indonesia since March 2020. This media economic study investigates the survival strategies of the Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper. As the oldest newspaper in Indonesia and accompanying the birth of the Republic of Indonesia in 1945, the Kedaulatan Rakyat daily office, based in the city of Yogyakarta, has experienced economic difficulties such as the decline of readers, especially millennials. In addition, the acquisition of national advertising also fell by 75% while new/mini advertisements fell by around 50%. The author applied qualitative methods to extract data from in-depth interviews with two editors, two directors and one marketing communication officer. The results show several strategies implemented, including increasing the number of readers, intensifying advertorials, holding events, and reducing the number of pages. The desire of the owner to safeguard the family heritage also plays an important role in maintaining the continuity of the publication and the credibility of the paper. Keywords: Media economy, survival strategies, Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper, Covid-19, Indonesia.

AbstractIntroduction: Primary Care is a privileged field to increase the social participation of people with disabilities through work; however, this theme is rarely addressed in the care practices for this population. Objective: To present and discuss the perceptions of the actors involved in the inclusion of a person with disability in work and income initiative, at the Family Health Strategy (FHS) setting, which involved the construction of a Unique Therapeutic Project. Method: This is a qualitative, descriptive research, in the form of case study, carried out in an FHS service in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The service user and two professionals from the family health team (nurse and community health agent) participated in a semi-structured interview. These data and the field notes were analyzed from the perspective of content analysis. Results and Discussion: In the interviewees' perception, despite the difficulties observed, such as structural problems and access barriers, it was possible to implement a cooperative-based work and income initiative, which enhanced the construction of a social support network and highlighted the possibilities of expanding the care of people with disabilities in the FHS. Final considerations: This study allowed us to understand the FHS as a fertile field for the development of rehabilitation actions that transcend the restricted look at body functions and structures, building care closer to the needs of people with disabilities and recognizing their socio-cultural context. Keywords: Disabled Persons, Social Participation, Work, Primary Health Care.ResumenIntroducción: La atención primaria es un campo privilegiado para aumentar la participación social de las personas con discapacidad a través del trabajo; sin embargo, este tema ha sido poco abordado en las prácticas de atención para esta población. This article intends to identify and to describe the unique structure and the managing style that owns primordial characteristics, that is giving significance to kinship, religion, and local Bugis cultural values, which made up the cultural system of PT. Hadji Kalla family business. Theoritically, this research was inspired from Weberian perspective on the ideal types of bureaucracy, that observes organizations (in this case is the family business) as one of the socio-cultural phenomena which is neutral and value-free, that is place aside its subjective aspects. The research was conducted in two locations, the head office and one of the branch offices using qualitative approach that relies on participant observation, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. The results of the research shows that the family business of PT. Hadji Kalla that has advanced into national level still prioritizes kinship, ethnicity, and religious aspects in the daily activities of the company. The value even take parts in providing the company’s colour to the urban societies in various districts where the company stands. This means that although the society has undergone transformations, it doesn’t mean that the primordial value, and the elements that exist outside of businesses (such as kinship, big men, religion, cultural values, and interest) do not influence the activities that are held in formal organizations. Therefore, the interventions of subjective aspects will always appear, followed with the application of the modern management system that is implemented by PT. Hadji Kalla company.

The ideology of state-ibuism has always been interwoven with how the New Order regime until nowadays government constructing the “ideal” role of women in the family and community through the PKK (Pembinaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga) organization. However, in Cangkring Village, Indramayu, the ideology of ibuism works not because of the massive government regulating the role of women through the PKK organization, but it is possible because of the structure of the kampung community itself. Through involved observations and in-depth interviews about a kindergarten in the village, a group of housewives who dedicated themselves to teaching in kindergarten were met without getting paid high. From these socio-cultural phenomenons, this paper will describe descriptively and analytically that housewives in the Cangkring village are willing to become kindergarten teachers because of their moral burden as part of the warga kampung and also from community pressure from people who want their children to be able to read and write.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine how repatriates’ emotional support network affects their experience of re-entry. Design/methodology/approach This inductive, qualitative study is based on 27 semi-structured, in-depth interviews with Belgian organizational repatriates. Findings The analyses suggest that expatriation empathy is a key attribute of organizational repatriates’ main emotional support providers. In addition, the results show that although partners are a main source of emotional support on re-entry, they are also important potential causes of distress. Lastly, the results suggest that the cultural diversity of a repatriate’s emotional support network is linked with characteristics of the assignment and that it affects the experience of repatriation. Research limitations/implications The results provide empirical evidence that the expatriation empathy of repatriates’ support providers is a more informative characteristic to consider compared with whether they have personal experience of expatriation. In addition, the results suggest that research should also take into account the negative side of social support, and, for example, consider the influence of crossover distress of partners who experience relocation difficulties themselves. Practical implications This study points to the possible benefits of organizing social activities or training for repatriates and their partner and any children, as well as the advantages of encouraging expatriates to invite home-country friends to visit. Originality/value Although most scholars agree on the importance of support for expatriates’ well-being, the sources of relevant emotional support have received little research attention so far, as has how this influences the repatriation experience.

This paper attempts to explore the  severity of domestic violence experienced by educated woman of Kathmandu. The views presented in this paper are based on my research about theregistered cases of domestic violence against educated women. I have taken in-depth interviews with 14 women of Kalimati Woman Cell. Here I argue that domestic violence, the most heinous act is even found in educated woman and social acceptance of domestic violence is the primary cause for its prevalence and increase.  Moreover, I have taken only the registered cases and it is mostly the educated women who go to women cells to register the cases than the uneducated ones.Educated woman tolerate the pain of domestic violence due to prestige and honour of the family. Education provides knowledge and awareness and enlightens the mind of people. But women are still not awakened and have not been able to discard the perpetrators who have abused them. As violence remains within the home, it remains invisible and accepted as ‘normal’. It is the most shocking truth that,no matter what the educational status of women, women from everywhere face different forms of domestic violence.

This paper contributes to the growing literature on the diversity of return migration by analysing the different types of small-scale entrepreneurship among returnees. Data from an original survey conducted among Romanian returnees and in-depth interviews with returnees in entrepreneurship are combined to reveal distinct profiles of returnee entrepreneurs and to illustrate their specific ways of thinking about entrepreneurship and migration. Currently, Romania is one of the most fertile settings to research intra-European return migration due to its important flows of temporary international migrants. The paper highlights that there are major differences between business owners and self-employed returnees in terms of entrepreneurship. Returnees who are business owners are those who benefited significantly more from migration than non-entrepreneur returnees—in terms of economic savings, human capital accumulation, and enhancement of their stocks of social capital; while returnees in self-employment reveal no significant differences for these migration outcomes compared to non-entrepreneur returnees. The distinction between the two groups of entrepreneurs has certain implications for origin states’ policies oriented towards stimulating return migration through programmes oriented towards returnees’ entrepreneurship. Keywords: Return Migration; Intra-European Migration; Entrepreneurship; Self-Employment; Multi-Method Social Research.
