Print media in the form of daily newspapers face a serious challenge with the presence of digital media. A number of print media organisations stopped publishing between 2005 and 2018. The challenges became more severe when the Covid-19 virus pandemic was declared to have existed in Indonesia since March 2020. This media economic study investigates the survival strategies of the Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper. As the oldest newspaper in Indonesia and accompanying the birth of the Republic of Indonesia in 1945, the Kedaulatan Rakyat daily office, based in the city of Yogyakarta, has experienced economic difficulties such as the decline of readers, especially millennials. In addition, the acquisition of national advertising also fell by 75% while new/mini advertisements fell by around 50%. The author applied qualitative methods to extract data from in-depth interviews with two editors, two directors and one marketing communication officer. The results show several strategies implemented, including increasing the number of readers, intensifying advertorials, holding events, and reducing the number of pages. The desire of the owner to safeguard the family heritage also plays an important role in maintaining the continuity of the publication and the credibility of the paper. Keywords: Media economy, survival strategies, Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper, Covid-19, Indonesia.

The consequences of the floods that had affected the area of Serbia in 2014 indicated a very low level of preparedness of population to respond to natural disasters. Therefore, the aim of quantitative research is to examine the impact of fear on the willingness of citizens to respond to a natural disaster caused by the flood in the Republic of Serbia. Bearing in mind all local communities in Serbia where floods occurred or there is a high risk of flooding, there was selected a random sample consisting of 19 out of 150 municipalities and 23 towns and the city of Belgrade. In the selected communities, a research was undertaken in those areas that had been most affected in relation to the amount of water or potential risk of flooding. The survey used strategy of testing in households with the use of a multi- stage random sample. The research results indicate that the citizens who have a fear of floods are familiar with safety procedures to a greater extent in relation to citizens who do not have the fear; they have taken the preventive measures; they point out that they still are not ready to respond, but plan to do so in the next 6 months; they would evacuate to the upper floor of the house; they point out that someone in the family has educated them about the flood. In contrast to that, citizens who do not have the fear are not doing anything to prepare themselves to react in such situations, they are confident in their own abilities to cope with the consequences of floods, etc. The originality of the research lies in the fact that in Serbia there has never been conducted a research to examine the state of preparedness of citizens to respond. Bearing in mind that the research is based on the territory of Serbia, conclusions can be generalized to the entire population. The research results can be used when creating a strategy for improving the level of preparedness of citizens to respond.

The key role of digital and mobile media for refugees is increasingly acknowledged, but while the literature on the topic tends to celebrate the advantages of digital media, it is important to also acknowledge limitations. Thus, the focus on the creation and maintenance of connections through digital media may obscure experiences and practices of disconnection. This is certainly the case for forced migrants with non-normative sexual orientations, for whom experiences of homophobia within the family and ethno-cultural community in the country of origin may extend to fraught situations in the country of residence. As with digital media in general, it is important to consider the ‘offline’ social and cultural conditions determining online media uses. This article focuses on the specific challenges for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer refugees, both in general and in Belgium, drawing on desk research and expert interviews, as well as nine in-depth interviews with gay-identifying male refugees. While the refugees are relatively positive about the Belgian situation, they do identify a number of challenges. They use digital media to stay connected to family and other people in the country of origin, but often this connection has become difficult. Social media and dating sites also offer a way to connect to other gay men, but these connections can be equally fraught, particularly in the country of origin for danger of exposure but also in Belgium as social media transcend national boundaries. For this reason, some participants created new or parallel profiles, to keep their gay lives disconnected from their family lives. Overall, then, digital media are a tool not only of connection but also of strategic disconnection for gay refugees.

Abstract Integration of immigrants in their host societies is a key-issue on the refugee crisis throughout the world. Self-employment appears as means of survival representing the so-called necessity-driven entrepreneurship, which is rather common among immigrant survival strategies. Syrians in Brazil are the fourth largest nationality to seek refuge in the country. Therefore, the present paper aims at analyzing how ethnic and local networks of support are configured and influence the creation of new businesses, such as food stalls and restaurants. For that purpose, an exploratory study through in-depth interviews was conducted with Syrians in Rio de Janeiro, generating reflections on the institutional picture as well as the hosting conditions of the country. Key-findings include contingency factors showing evidences that social capital is more a function of brokerage across structural holes than closure within a network articulation, the family network importance as well as the establishment of a local support network. Keywords: immigration, refugee, Syrians, Brazil, self-employment.

The purpose of this study was to describe the factual conditions of child prosocial development due to public play by the family so far. P.The approach used is qualitative with the type of case. The setting of this study was carried out in Singgalang Padang complex, while the research subjects were parents who brought their young children to play in public play facilities. Researchers were key instruments, and data collection techniques used participatory observation, in-depth interviews. Data analysis techniques using qualitative analysis. The results showed that parents had not participated in the social development of children in the public play arena. There are several reasons for parents why they do not carry out the prosocial development of their children, among them they argue that: (1) it is not yet time, the social development of children is done, because they are still too small. (2). Even if directed they don't understand, (3) there are parents who think that they don't know that social development needs to be done since the child is still small (4) There are parents who don't want to know about the situation and they are more focused on children themselves. Suggestions in this study need to provide information to parents or caregivers about children's social development early on in the public play arena.

This paper aims to identify and describe the survival strategies of women fishers in meeting the needs of family life in Muara Selotong and the distribution of marine products. In their role, women fishers do not only play a role in the domestic space but also participate to fulfill and increase income, so that they are sufficient for the family economy. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, research techniques include; participant observer and in-depth interviews. The results of the field research show that in helping the family's economy, women fisher in Muara Selotong work looking for shellfish, crabs and helping their husbands in looking for fish and shrimp. The technique of looking for shells and crabs uses the traditional way, namely by using a “Gancu” tool and watching the tides. For the sake of getting additional economics, some dare to do this work, even though they are not good at swimming. Economic demands and low levels of education are the main reasons for women to participate in helping the family economy because the income earned by men as heads of households is deemed insufficient. Women also have wider access and networks than men to distribute marine products. because women take on roles from the production stage to distribution in the market. It can be seen that the dual role of women is very helpful to meet the needs of the family.
