Historical research report on the external architectural surfaces of the fortress of San LeoThe hinterland of Rimini is characterized by the presence of many castles, but the fortress of San Leo is certainly the most representative because of its position and the different constructive contributions that over time have updated its appearance and military functions. Cited by Dante and Machiavelli for the impervious nature on which it stands, its origin dates back to the early Middle Ages. It was rehashed following the imprint of Francesco di Giorgio Martini in the fifteenth century, restored by Giuseppe Valadier at the end of the eighteenth century and converted to a prison in 1631. A peculiarity that makes the studies on the fortress of San Leo absolutely interesting is the treatment of the external architectural surfaces of which there is ample documentation in the historical archives and of which there are multiple uses in the various areas of the factory; the research aims to offer useful knowledge for the subsequent conservation and restoration project. The theme, completely original, arises from indirect investigations of a documentary and iconographic nature, conducted at the State Archives of Pesaro, Florence, Rome, the Central State Archive and the Vatican Secret Archive, which repeatedly refer in the accounting of works, starting from the seventeenth century, the execution of plasters executed outside the monument. The interpretative tension of the archival documents and the drawings continued by looking for a direct comparison between historical information and materiality of the fortress, in order to identify a correspondence between historical data and constructive reality. It emerges clearly that the external surfaces of many parts of the fortress were treated and finished with plaster since its origins, probably due to the exposure to atmospheric agents; therefore a rethinking of what is reported in the literature is necessary both in terms of interpretative profile of the fortress, and about how its image was perceived over the centuries.

Mass media play a significant role in society, performing the role of "fourth power". The format of relations between the media and society is made in accordance with the political regime. In the conditions of a totalitarian state, which was the USSR, the media were always at the center of attention, because it was they who provided an ideological basis for the ruling political party and the vigilance of the journalist staff was an extremely important part of this "attention". The article attempts to identify the main areas of the CPSU's personnel policy regarding media coverage of journalists, the presence / absence of essential features of party leadership in the staff in general and journalists-specifically, the current assessment of the effectiveness of the Communist Party leadership and its impact on the media. The archival documents of the Central State Archives of Public Associations of Ukraine (Fund of the Central Committee of the CPU) and a number of published documents, sufficiently diverse in their format, were processed: memoranda, information, preparatory documents for plenums, meetings, resolutions of the republican and local party leaders. The conclusions summarize the main historical lessons that will help society, the authorities of today and the media to build relationships that are inherent in the democratic stage of civilization development.

The article is devoted to the history of the Leningrad archives during the Great Patriotic War and the blockade. The evacuation of the most valuable archival funds and parts of the funds largely repeated the experience of the 1917 evacuation. Especially valuable documents and the collections of finding aids of the archives were evacuated. That allowed to save the most valuable part of the archives, but made it almost impossible to use of information from the archives left in the besieged city. But thanks to the highest professionalism and dedication of the Leningrad archivists, these documents were nevertheless shown up and used in the interests of the defense, foreign policy, the national economy, as well as propaganda. In the most difficult conditions of the blockade, thematic requests were carried out, reviews, lists of documents were compiled, documentary collections were prepared for publication. Social and legal requests were also carried out in the interests of individuals. Documents of “operationalchekist” interest were identified. Work on the use of information from the archives of besieged Leningrad was carried out on a large scale. The archives suffered from bombing and artillery shelling. The greatest losses were suffered by the Central State Historical Archives in Leningrad (TsGIAL). Those losses (as well as losses during evacuation and re-evacuation) amounted to approx 1.3% of the total number of documents stored in the archive. But the main part of the documents of the Leningrad archives was saved.

The article covers the issue of displaying archival documents on the Internet as part of the anniversary events timed to the anniversary of the Victory over Nazism which took place in 1945. The authors focus on exhibitions by the Ukrainian central state archives and use them to analyse the role of the modern archival institution as an object and subject of politics of memory and as a collec - tive memory institution that somewhat historicizes the past events (in this case, these events are the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, beginning and final victory in them) through preserved and exhibited historical documents. The authors provide insight into the structure and concept of each exhibition and try to understand the exposition chronography, symbols and nomenclature which were used to prepare a particular exhibition. The authors of the publication pay special attention to the floral symbols of the expositions (the scarlet poppy or Remembrance poppy in particular). The analysis of its use cases within the exposition devoted to the Great Patriotic War and World War 2 and the dates associated with them has special place in the paper. The authors emphasize the historical, political and symbolic significance of the war “beginning” and “end” as valuable elements of the modern Ukrainian historical narrative.

The article is devoted to the events of the first part of 1930-ies in the Mordovian Autonomous Region. The politics struggle between different groups of the soviet and party ruling elite, which accompanied the process of the formation of Mordovian statehood and the korenization of the State machinery are considering as well. On the example of Mordovian oblast committee and Saransk town committee of VKP(b) some features inherent in the regional Soviet nomenclature of the 1930s are shown. The article acknowledges that in Mordovia, the struggle between various groups of the Soviet and Party elite was significantly influenced by the national factor and the process of indigenization of the administrative apparatus. At the same time, there was tension between the First secretary of the regional Party Committee sent from the outside, who tried to rely on his own proteges, and the regional nomenclature clans formed from local national cadres. Meanwhile, in the existing system of close-knit corporate groups and bureaucratic clans based on personal ties and mutual responsibility, there was a rapid degeneration of Party and Soviet executives. This led to the spread of such negative phenomena as leaderism, embezzlements, abuse of official position, etc. In preparing the article, the method of analyzing historical documents, historical and systemic, historical and comparative methods were used. Archival documents (from the Central State Archives of the Republic of Mordovia), as well as materials of the Soviet periodicals from the newspapers Volzhskaya Kommuna and Krasnaya Mordovia served as the basis for the source base of the article.

The author, for the first time, publishes documents from the State Archives of Lviv Region and the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv (CDIAL of Ukraine) concerning Roman Shukhevych's activities at the Ukrainian Student Sports Club (USSC) in Lviv during March 1931 - March 1934. It significantly supplements the biography of a leading figure of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the future Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). Besides studying at Lviv Polytechnic and illegal activities in the OUN, Roman Shukhevych was actively involved in the USSC. The documents reveal his sporting achievements: he repeatedly took part in swimming competitions. For example, on September 6, 1931, he set a record for swimming in the 4x50 m freestyle among Ukrainian athletes in Galicia together with Mykhailo Polishchuk, Volodymyr Slipko, and Yurii Shukhevych. Much attention is given to the activity of R. Shukhevych as an organizational functionary, in particular as a Deputy Chairman of the USSC sports section, as well as a referee in swimming and athletics competitions. The published documents also clarify the life of Roman Shukhevych's brother Yurii, who was also an athlete and a member of the USSC (frequently participated in swimming competitions, set records in this sport) and other Ukrainian nationalists who did sports during this period, including Stepan Bandera, Dmytro Hrytsai, Oleksa Gasyn, Edvard Zharskyi, Yevhen Polotniuk, Ivan Seniv. Keywords Keywords: Roman Shukhevych, Lviv, Ukrainian Student Sports Club, sport, sports competitions, swimming, athletics, refereeing.
