ABSTRACT Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of different direct reliners to acrylic resin for denture base. Materials and methods Double-cone specimens were made: HA-heat-cured acrylic resin-(n = 20); U-Ufi Gel Hard C-(n = 10); K: Kooliner-(n = 10); R-Rebase II Fast-(n = 10) and RH-Rebase II Fast + Resin Hardener-(n = 10). Ten HA samples were immediately submitted to cohesive test. The remaining HA samples and others were submitted to thermal aging (HAaged, 1000 cycles, 5.55oC), followed by tensile test. For tensile strength, 50 single cone-shaped samples were made of heat-cured acrylic resin and aged (HAaged, 1000 cycles, 5.55oC). After surface treatment, relining resin cones were build up using silicon molds, and stressed to failure. Values of cohesive and tensile strength were submitted to one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 5%). Results Bond strength were: HA/HAaged: 21.17 (±4.89)a, U/HAaged: 11.56 (±1.98)b, R/HAaged: 9.69 (±2.37)b, RH/ HAaged: 9.38 (±1.78)bc and K/HAaged: 5.98 (±1.90)c. The cohesive strength were: KCoe: 22.29(±4.06)a; RCoe: 23.99 (±3.29)a; RHCoe: 24.84 (±3.88)a; UCoe: 25.62 (±3.03)a; HAaged: 36.06 (±8.65)b and HA:42.29 (±7.68)b. Groups followed by the same letters do not show differences. Conclusion Bond strength of acrylic resin to acrylic denture base material is higher than the reliners and Ufi Gel Hard C showed the higher bond strength. Today, soft liners are being widely used in dental practices by their application to the inner surfaces of the denture with hopes to evenly distribute any potential uneven forces, and to provide a cushion effect to the oral mucosa of the patient mouth. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of (a) polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) denture base material curing technique, (b) Molloplast B soft liner curing technique, and (c) PMMA surface treatment, on the “shear bond strength” (SBS) between the Molloplast B liner and PMMA. A total of 80 samples were used in this study to evaluate the SBS performance of microwave (Nature-Cryl, Acron Gc, Japan) and conventional water bath (Ivoclar triplex, Liechtenstein) curing techniques of PMMA, and to evaluate the curing technique of soft liner material Molloplast B (DETAX,GERMANY). Surface treatment of PMMA was performed for half of the samples using neodymium:yttrium aluminum-garnet Nd:YAG laser, and the other half of the samples were surface-treated using AL2O3 sandblasting method. The results showed that the highest mean value in conventional water bath-cured soft liner was 26.69 MPa, whereas the lowest mean value for microwave-cured soft liner was 15.22 MPa. No significant difference was observed between the SBS performance regarding the PMMA surface treatment and curing techniques. Conventional water bath curing technique for soft liner treatment improved the SBS performance. Regarding the PMMA curing technique, the conventional water bath achieved higher SBS, yet the difference was not statistically significant. Finally, surface treatment using laser improved the SBS compared to sandblasted method, but the improvement here was also statistically insignificant.

ABSTRACT A major problem commonly observed in denture wearer is the detachment of artificial tooth/teeth from acrylic denture base. The problem was grave when porcelain teeth used along with the then available denture base materials. The bond formed was purely mechanical and hence debonding of teeth from denture base was a frequent occurrence. Inspite of chemical union between acrylic resin teeth and acrylic denture base material, detachment of teeth particularly anterior teeth is a frequent observation. The objective of the study is to study the effect of change in the surface treatment and surface configuration of ridge lap surface of the teeth on retention of cross-linked acrylic teeth on crosslinked acrylic resin denture base. Sixty specimens were tested for the shear compressive bond strength using instron universal testing machine in KN. Statistical analysis is used. The findings were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and ‘t’ test. Slight modification in the ridge lap surface of artificial teeth alters the strength of the shear compressive bond. Sand papering of ridge lap surfaces improves the shear compressive bond then the one without any modification. Maximum shear compressive bond strength can be increased by application of monomer How to cite this article Sadar L, Dhume S, Maniar N, Patil JP, Rane P, Gandhewar M. The heat cured acrylic resin is common used as denture base material, but its microporosity can affect the cleanliness of the denture base lead to accumulation of plaque and food waste, and further increase the number of Candida albicans and cause denture stomatitis. There are 2 type of cleaning agents; natural cleaning agents, such as basil and chemical cleaning agents, for example effervescent artificial cleaning tablets. This study compared the effectiveness of basil leaves squeeze and effervescent denture cleaning solutions in soaking heat cured acrylic resin plates on the growth of C. albicans. There were 24 of 10x10x1 mm acrylic resin plates divided into 6 treatment groups. The acrylic resin plate was soaked in the basil leaves squeeze and effervescent denture cleaning solutions. Measurement of C. albicans absorbance used a spectrophotometer, then calculated the total of C. albicans using the formula. Data was analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test. The analysis showed that there are significant differences on the growth inhibition of C. albicans between treatment groups (p <0.005). The effervescent denture cleansing solution has a better antifungal effectiveness than the basil leaves

Abstract: Acrylic resin is a denture base material that is still used in the field of dentistry. Porosity, one of the properties of a denture base material, can lead to absorption of fluid in the mouth, one of them is coffee. Porosity that occurs in a denture base material can cause discoloration. Coffee is favored by most people. Coffee contains tannins, a polyphenol compound, that can be absorbed through the porous of the denture base which can cause discoloration of the denture base. This study was aimed to determine the effect of acrylic resin plate immersed in coffee solution with various viscosity to the changes in volume of coffee solution. This was a pre laboratory experimental study with a pre and post test only control group design. Samples were 18 acrylic resin plates with a size of 65 x 10 x 2.5 mm. Each treatment group consisted of 6 samples. The samples were divided into 3 treatment groups that were soaked in coffee 2 g, 4 g, and 6 g for 7 days. The results showed that after 7 days of immersing resin acrylic plates in coffee solution with various viscosity, the changes of the volumes of coffee solution had a mean of 0.064 for 2 g; 0.147 for 4 g; and 0.244 for 6 g. The one-way ANOVA test resulted in a p value of 0.00. Conclusion: There was a significant effect of resin acrylic immersed in a coffee solution with various viscosity to the changes in the volume of coffee solution. Keywords: acrylic resin, changes in volume of the solution of coffee, coffee Abstrak: Resin akrilik merupakan bahan basis gigi tiruan yang sampai saat ini masih digunakan dalam bidang Kedokteran Gigi.
