ABSTRACT Teeth loss is a traumatic experience. It disturbs the total integrity of the masticatory system. Its successful rehabilitation should address a range of biomechanical problems, tolerances, and perceptions. Implant-supported overdenture with two implants placed in the interforamina region is a predictable treatment option in edentulous mandible rather than conventional complete denture as it offers increased stability, comfort, and patient compliance. Success in complete dentures is still an unanswered question as various authors have differing opinion. Patients and prosthodontists often disagree on a successful denture experience. Criteria for quality standards in denture fabrication have been articulated; however patients and prosthodontists often disagree on a successful denture experience. This study was carried out to determine patient satisfaction with implant-supported overdentures and its impact on the treatment outcome. Thirty edentulous patients were randomly divided into two groups to receive implant-supported overdentures supported with two implants in the interforamina region of mandibular arch retained with either ball or ball attachment. Questionnaires were given to the patient before and after treatment at 3- and 6-month interval. Data collected were statistically analyzed. Results obtained from this study show that patients with implant-supported overdentures were more satisfied with the treatment outcome, and there was no significant difference in patient satisfaction between the two groups. OBJECTIVEMorning discharge huddles consist of multiple members of the inpatient care team and are used to improve communication and patient care and to facilitate patient flow through the hospital. However, the effect of huddles on hospital costs and patient satisfaction has not been clearly elucidated. The authors investigated how a neurosurgeryled interdisciplinary daily morning huddle affected various costs of patient care and patient satisfaction.METHODSHuddles were conducted at 8:30 am Monday through Friday, and lasted approximately 30 minutes. The authors retrospectively looked at the average monthly costs per patient for a variety of variables (e.g., average ICU days, average step-down days, average direct cost, average laboratory costs, average pharmacy costs, hospital ratings, and hospital recommendations) and compared the results from before and after implementation of the huddle.RESULTSThere was a significant decrease in the number of ICU days, average laboratory costs, and average pharmacy costs per patient after the huddle was implemented; decreased laboratory and pharmacy costs produced $1,408,047.66 in savings. There was no significant difference found for the average direct cost. The percentage of patients who rated the hospital as a 9 or 10 significantly increased. The percentage who answered “strongly agree” when asked whether they would recommend the hospital also significantly increased.CONCLUSIONSA short morning huddle consisting of key members of the inpatient team may result in substantial hospital savings derived from reduced ICU days and laboratory and pharmacy costs as well as increased patient satisfaction.

Abstract Objectives To compare the changes in implant stability for the nonsubmerged and submerged protocols for a single-implant retained mandibular overdenture using Cendres and Metaux Locator attachment throughout a 24-month follow-up. Materials and Methods Eighty edentulous patients who were seeking to install a single implant in the midline of the completely edentulous mandible. At the day of implant installation, patients were randomized into two groups using sealed envelopes: the nonsubmerged and submerged groups. After 3 months of healing period, randomization using sealed envelopes was performed and patients were randomized to receive the Cendres and Metaux Locator attachment. The periotest readings were recorded using the Periotest M device, every 3 months for the first year and annually in the second year. The scope of this clinical trial focused only on results of the Cendres and Metaux attachment. Statistical Analysis The Mann–Whitney U-test was used for comparison between study groups for independent samples. Two-sided p-values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the mean periotest readings of both groups throughout the 24-month follow-up. Both groups showed an improvement in mean periotest readings with the submerged group tending to show greater stability at 6, 12, and 24-month follow-ups. Conclusions The nonsubmerged and the submerged healing protocols resulted in reliable periotest readings with the submerged group showing greater improvement than the nonsubmerged, although this improvement is nonsignificant when using the Cendres and Metaux attachment for a single mandibular overdenture.

The quality of hospital Haemodialysis Department Service is one of the most relevant items of health care quality perceived by patients and by their families. Patient satisfaction is considered a way of measuring the quality of services provided. Objectives: To study the impact of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) Accreditation, India on Haemodialysis Department Service patient satisfaction. Methods: It is a quantitative, descriptive and inferential research based case study in which sample of a population was studied by structured satisfaction survey questionnaires (before and after the accreditation) in a private tertiary care hospital at Secunderabad, Telangana State, India to determine its characteristics, and it is then inferred that the population has the same or different characteristics. Significance of Research: It was observed initially before the accreditation that there was a lower patient satisfaction rate of the hospital Haemodialysis Department Services, which was affecting the study hospitals’ business. Hypothesis: Null Hypothesis (Ho) and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) were used and tested to compare the before and after impact of accreditation by applying to each question in the questionnaire. Study Design: The closed ended questionnaire was developed considering the Haemodialysis Department Services and incorporated the six dimensions of quality Safe, Timely, Effective, Efficient, Equitable, and Patient-centred (STEEP) and tested prior to implementing. Questionnaires were given to the patients' families for completion upon using the Haemodialysis Department Services two months before and two months after the accreditation. The data were collected in order to cover all three shifts of the Haemodialysis Department Services. Study Population: Simple random sampling method was selected, the researcher had involved all conscious patients (clinical conditions) from all age groups. Data Collections: Primary data were collected from the survey questionnaires. Secondary data were collected from relevant published journals, articles, research papers, academic literature and web portals. Conclusion: At the 5 % level of significance, the t-test results indicate that there is a significant difference in the responses between before (M=51.11, SD=21.89) and after accreditation (M=58.56, SD=17.28) with p-value <0.001. The mean satisfaction score has improved from before accreditation compared to after accreditation.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the care coordination (CC) program operating in the Emergency Department (ED) of The Northern Hospital in improving outcomes for older people and reducing ED admissions and re-presentations. This was achieved by comparing admissions from ED to wards pre and post commencement of the CC program, and measuring patient health-related quality of life pre and post CC intervention. Patient readmission rates and staff and patient satisfaction with the service were also investigated. Results indicate a statistically significant reduction in the proportion of patients admitted from the ED to a ward since the inception of the program, a significant difference in the mean-related quality of life scores before and after intervention by care coordination, and staff and patient satisfaction with the service. The readmission data collected in the present evaluation will serve as a baseline measure for future evaluations.

Patient satisfaction is as important as other clinical health measures and is a chief means of assessing the strength of health care delivery. The current competitive environment has driven health care organisations to concentrate on patient satisfaction as a means to acquire and keep market share. If you don’t recognise what your strengths and weaknesses are, you can’t compete effectively. Objectives: To study the impact of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) Accreditation, India on the patient satisfaction of In-Patient Department Services. Methods: It is a quantitative, descriptive and inferential research based case study in which sample of a population was studied by structured satisfaction survey questionnaires (before and after the accreditation) in a private tertiary care hospital in Secunderabad, Telangana State, India to determine its characteristics, and it is then inferred that the population has the same or different characteristics. Significance of Research: It was observed initially before the accreditation that there was a lower satisfaction rate in in-patient department services, which was affecting the study hospitals’ business. Hypothesis: Null Hypothesis (H0) and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) were used and tested to compare the before and after impact of accreditation by applying to each question of the questionnaire. Study Design: The closed ended questionnaire was developed considering the in-patient services process by incorporating the six dimensions of quality Safe, Timely, Effective, Efficient, Equitable, and Patient-centred (STEEP) and tested prior to implementing. Questionnaires were given to the patients for completion upon discharge two months before and two months after the accreditation. Study Population: Simple random sampling method was selected, and the researcher had involved conscious patients of all age groups and gender. Data Collections: Primary data were collected from the survey questionnaires. Secondary data were collected from relevant published journals, articles, research papers, academic literature and web portals. Conclusion: It is very evident from this research that at the 5 % level of significance, the chi-square test indicates that there is a significant difference in the satisfaction with respect to the overall experience in the hospital between before the accreditation group and after accreditation group with p-value <0.001.The responses of satisfaction has improved from N=421 (Satisfied=245, Highly satisfied= 176) from N=241 (Satisfied = 124, Highly satisfied= 117).

Purpose: Evaluation of implant overdenture retention at 23mm standard inter-implant distance using OT Equator and locator attachments. Materials and methods: Twelve completely edentulous patients were selected for this study. For all patients, conventional complete dentures were constructed. Mandibular dentures were replicated into stereolithographic implant placement guide using CBCT. Every participant received 2-implants in the anterior mandibular area with inter-implant distance of 23 mm. After the osseointegration period, the mandibular conventional dentures were converted into implant retained overdentures attached with Locator attachment for (group I) (six patients) and OT Equator attachments for (group II) (six patients). Retention was evaluated for conventional mandibular complete dentures (T0), 3-months (T3) and, 6-months (T6) after overdenture insertion using digital force-meter. Results: Results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the study groups representing mean retention force (P<0.05) except at T0 (baseline evaluation with conventional dentures) with higher mean values for group I (Locator attachment) than group II (OT Equator attachment). Conclusion: Regarding the limitations of this study: -Inter-implant distance of 23 mm for 2-implant overdentures could be considered a reliable modality for edentulous mandible. -Locator attachment may be preferable than OT Equator attachment regarding 2-implant overdenture retention at 23 mm inter-implant distance.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the interocclusal distance during the pronunciation of /m/ and /s/ sounds from Portuguese Language, in partially edentulous patients before and after new partial and total prosthesis installation. The subjects were divided into two groups: Experimental group, consisting of 9 patients entirely edentate in the upper maxillary arch and classified as Kennedy Class I in the lower arch; and Control group, consisting of 9 totally dentate patients. The subjects from the first group had their worn out dentures changed and the occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) corrected. A magnetic method of jaw tracking was used to measure the interocclusal distance (mm) during pronunciation of those phonemes. Comparison between groups, by t test, showed significant difference (p<0.05) for /m/ sound in all periods of time: before prosthesis installation - T0 (3.38±1.23), immediately - T1 (2.15±1.06), six hours - T2 (3.41±1.33), twenty-four hours - T3 (2.92±0.92), two days - T4 (4.80±1.93), one week - T5 (3.87±1.43), two weeks - T6 (3.03±0.96), one month - T7 (3.03±0.96), two months - T8 (4.47±1.45) and three months - T9 (4.33±2.56), except for six months - T10 after prosthesis installation. For /s/ sound phoneme the results were different (p<0.05) between the groups in T1 (2.89±1.33), T2 (3.37±1.22), T3 (3.19±1.06), T4 (3.86±1.21), T5 (3.83±1.32), T6 (3.27±1.10), T7 (3.37±0.99) and T10 (3.84±1.38) after oral rehabilitation. The paired-t test, for means comparison between before and after prosthesis insertion, indicated significant differences (p<0.05) for /m/ sound only in T1, and for /s/ sound in T1, T2, T3, T6, T7 and T10. It was concluded that new prosthesis insertion, correcting the OVD, changes the interocclusal distance, and for /m/ sound this distance could be recovered after six months of prosthesis wearing.

Objective. The aim of this randomized clinical trial was to compare the masticatory ability subjectively between ball and Cendres+Métaux Locator (CM-LOC) attachment for a single implant retained mandibular overdenture throughout a 24-month follow-up period. Materials and Methods. Eighty completely edentulous patients were recruited. All patients received new complete dentures, and masticatory ability was recorded using a questionnaire (baseline record). All patients received a single implant in the midline of the completely edentulous mandible. After 3-month healing period, patients were randomized using sealed envelopes into two groups: ball or CM-LOC attachment. The same masticatory ability questionnaire was used to record masticatory ability for both groups after 2 weeks of pickup and 3-, 6-, 9-, 12-, and 24-month follow-up. Comparison between the study groups was done using Mann–Whitney U test for independent samples. Two-sided P values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results. The mean masticatory scores improved for both attachments, with no statistically significant difference between them throughout the 24-month follow-up. The CM-LOC attachment group showed a greater improvement change in masticatory ability after 6- and 12-month follow-up (−12.47 ± 12.006, −11.46 ± 14.625; P = 0.826 ), while the ball attachment group showed a slight improvement after the 24-month follow-up (−11.72 ± 12.368, −10.88 ± 11.963; P = 0.778 ). Conclusion. Single implant retained mandibular overdenture improved masticatory ability subjectively with no significant difference between both attachments used although the ball attachment showed better masticatory ability scores after 24-month follow-up.
