A proposal put forth in the Dutch Parliament suggests that anyone over the age of 75 should have a legally guaranteed right to physician-assisted suicide if they wish to die, unless the wish is the result of a mental illness. This chapter discusses three questions about the relationship between age and entitlement to assisted dying: 1) are there good reasons to introduce a purely age-determined criterion for a right to assisted dying; 2) would such an age criterion lead to problematic discrimination against the elderly, or alternatively to discrimination against people who are too young to meet the criterion; and 3) what is the relationship between an age criterion and a postulated duty to choose assisted dying in specific situations. The discussion of these three issues shows that there are no good reasons for introducing an age criterion for the right to die, that an age criterion is potentially discriminatory to both the elderly and the young, and that introducing an age criterion could lead to problematic pressure against vulnerable elderly people.

The proposed work aims at designing a wearable device for health monitoring of elderly people who are not in a position to move swiftly. The device monitors the user’s ECG and pulse rate. The device is compact and user friendly. Besides, the proposed system also includes an automated pill box which issues the right pill on command that is loaded al-ready in it.The sensed data is intimated through an android application to the concerned person. On reception, the data is analyzed and the person sends an appropriate code using a telegram application. This code activates the pill box to open up the right compartment and delivers the pill to the ailing elderly patient. Further monitoring can be done after the medication to ensure the patient's condition. The set up can as well be fitted in a wheel chair for the timely delivery of the pills to a person moving in it.

Abstract: Flexibilityis the ability of a joint, muscles, and ligaments around it to move free lyandcomfortably in the space for the expected maximum. Flexibility is influenced by many factors. These factors are the muscles, tendons, ligaments, age, gender, body temperature and joint structure. Less flexibility may lead toa slower movement and injury pronetomuscles, ligaments, andothertissues. With increasing age, the person’s flexibility will reduce. The best way to increase the flexibility is stretching exercises. This study aimed to find the effect of stretching exercises for flexibility among the eldery. This was an experimental field study with pre-post test design. Samples were 30 elderly people who were in BPLU Senjah Cerah, Paniki Bawah. Samples were measured by using a goniometer flexibility before doing stretching exercises. After stretching exercises for 3 weeks, they were measured again with the goniometer. The results showed that stretching influenced the flexibility of the elderly (p<0.05), except the glexibility of the right arm flexion did not increase p =0.134(p>0.05). Conclusion: Stretching exercises can improve joint flexibility.

Introduction. Physical activity is known to be an important factor influencing health throughout human life. This issue has become crucial for public health due to the aging of the population in both developed and developing countries. Aim. is to present a literature review on the forms of physical activity undertaken by the elderly, as well as on issues related to physical activity and the population aging. Material and methods. The study was prepared on the basis of a review of Polish and foreign literature. The following databases and data sources were used: EBSCO, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. An additional source of data were the websites of the Central Statistical Office. Strictly defined key phrases were used during the collection of literature. The work has been divided into thematic subsections on the aging of the society, the impact of physical activity on health and the main topic, i.e. forms of physical activity selected by the elderly. Analysis of the literature. The number of elderly people in Polish society has increased by almost 3.7 million over three decades. Therefore, an important topic is prophylaxis aimed at increasing the number of days in good health, largely covering the broadly understood activation of the elderly. The available data indicate that only 12% of elderly people undertake physical activity once a week. The most common form of spending free time actively is walking (as many as 73% of people in this population declare this form of physical activity in one of the presented studies). Conclusion. Organized forms of physical activity are undertaken much less frequently by the analyzed age group mainly due to financial limitations and limited availability of sports infrastructure.
