Distance education is essentially the basis for the development of educational institutions that provide innovative services, which cannot be obtained elsewhere. It is believed that distance education is a substitute for the traditional as part of simplifying and cheapening the learning process. At the same time, the leading global trends suggest the need for the development of elements of self-education and the expansion of the geographical nature of educational offers. The relevance of the study is that it is necessary to distinguish between the use of distance education methods in the traditional sphere and the sphere of training professionals. The paper presents the concept of the need to integrate elements of distance education in the process of preparing university teachers. The authors believe that teachers in drawing up courses and applying learning technologies use the same techniques as in distance learning. Therefore, the use of distance learning technologies can be shown as the basis for the development of advanced training programs and additional professional education. The authors proposed a study on the need and sufficiency of the use of distance education technologies and the possibilities for their integration into the process of postgraduate education. The practical significance of the work is determined by the fact that the possibilities of self-development of teachers are fully disclosed, not only as subjects of the educational process but also as subjects of training.

This chapter provides a framework to analyse the marketing and promotion advantages of Virtual Communities. Virtual Communities offer companies the possibility to carry out a new products and services promotion and to develop trustful relationships with customers. The key element in the use of Virtual Communities for these purposes is the wide amount of customers that can be reached. Virtual Communities present the aptitude to generate social influence and knowledge sharing among customers. As a consequence, it brings out the increasing number of skills, competencies and “knowledge profiles” of each customer involved in the virtual environment. The framework is consequently applied to Second Life in order to analyse three different business strategies that companies usually implement by using this platform. The first strategy allows companies to perform the placement of their products/services in a dynamic form. The second strategy provides companies the possibility to have a better knowledge of customers’ needs in order to develop products and services that satisfy customer’s expectations. Finally, the third strategy allows companies to develop high brand awareness.

With a growing body of work demonstrating the power of games to transform players' attitudes, behaviors, and cognitions, it is crucial to understand the potentially divergent experiences and outcomes afforded by digital and non-digital platforms. In a recent study, we found that transferring a public health game from a non-digital to a digital format profoundly impacted players' behaviors and the game's impact. Specifically, players of the digital version of the game, despite it being a nearly identical translation, exhibited a more rapid play pace and discussed strategies and consequences less frequently and with less depth. As a result of this discrepancy, players of the non-digital version of the game exhibited significantly higher post-game systems thinking performance and more positive valuations of vaccination, whereas players of the digital game did not. We propose several explanations for this finding, including follow-up work demonstrating the impact of platform on basic cognitive processes, that elucidate critical distinctions between digital and non-digital experiences.

The article analyses the development trends of professional education in the context of global shifts taking place in the modern economy due to its technological development. The transfer of business processes to the digital environment leads to a radical reformatting of the entire sphere of labor, a change in its quality, as well as forms of interaction between people in the production of goods and services. The author identifies the main factors that have a decisive influence on the evolution of the professional activity of the person, radically changing the requirements for the professional education system, both in terms of its content, and methods of getting it. The main factors of the ongoing transformations, according to the author, include the rapid spread of digital platforms, replacing the traditional sectors of the economy, and the automation of cognitive activity based on the algorithmic repetition of a certain set of actions. Analyzing the effect of these factors, the author notes their contradictory effect on the sphere of professional employment and vocational education, comes to the conclusion that it is necessary to radically change the very paradigm of the development of vocational education, implement non-trivial organizational decisions in the process of transforming its institutional infrastructure. The article emphasizes that professional education in modern conditions is becoming not just a connecting link between the labor market and a person, but it is the beginning to fulfill a wide range of social functions. This is especially important in the context of a reduction in the scope of labor in the high-tech digital economy.

Introduction. Achieving the strategic goals of scientific-technological development, corresponding to the modern technological mode, is impossible without increasing the competitiveness of the education system, which is ensured by new continuous professional education models for school teachers of an engineering-technological profile, among which urban educational formats are increasingly used, as well as communities of experts, formed around groups of masters and relying on co-creation, transfer of experience and technology. The research purpose is to assess the potential of urban professional communities and the conditions for the formation of an informal pedagogical education ecosystem in the field of engineering-technological education of schoolchildren. Materials and methods. To study the structure of professional contacts of the urban network of teachers engaged in engineering-technological education of schoolchildren, the sample was constructed using the "snowball" method. The content analysis of a semi-structured interview was used to identify professional roles and professional contacts, to assess the density of networks using the method of network analysis of an educational organization according to K. Ushakov. Results. On the basis of a semi-structured interview with working teachers engaged in engineering-technology education, the links between the accepted roles (teacher, mentor, expert) and the network density were revealed, a great potential for the network development was revealed (84% of new links can still be formed, 53% of participants are ready to master new roles). The leading roles of leaders, “network nodes”, are “an expert” and “a mentor”. The authors highlight the characteristics of urban forms of interaction between teachers that enhance the social capital of a territory: co-existence format, heterogeneity of participants, reliance on experience and taking into account the ambitions to accept roles, distributed leadership, support of professional reflection, joint design of events. Practical significance. The presented method for assessing the social capital of a territory on the example of an informal education network of teachers engaged in engineering-technological education can be used in the management of local educational ecosystems.

Introduction. A historical overview is often quite useful in search for answers to some pressing issues. Learning from others can also help to cope with separate current problems. One of such problems encountered by modern Russian professional education is restoration and consolidation of its practice orientation through selection of an appropriate content and upbringing of youth in the course of pre-employment process. A considerable variety of material in this regard has been accumulated over the last several centuries in Germany. The aim of this paper was to analyse the cause-and-effect relationships of developmental priorities in the German professional pedagogy during the 18th – early 20th centuries.Methodology and research methods. System and comparative approaches were used as main methodological tools. The leading method was a comparative retrospective analysis, which allowed the authors to compare various scientific resources. In addition, the approaches of goal-setting and formalisation of expected results were applied. The content analysis and systematisation of documents and other historical and pedagogical resources were employed. In view of information extensiveness, the selection was compiled with the principle of necessity and sufficiency, i. e. reduction of excess data when maintaining the completeness of facts for continued use. Results and scientific novelty. The stages of formation and development of labour school were identified according to the ideas of the German scientists and the educational practice accepted in Germany during the considered historical period. The main directions of training through activity were characterised: philanthropinism, manualism, professionalism and activism. The influence of social and economic conditions on formation and transformation of various educational concepts was demonstrated, which constant despite everything was a combination of fundamental and applied components of vocational training. The continuity of pedagogical theory and practice of the past in the modern system of the German professional education was shown.Practical significance. The findings obtained by the Russian-German research team can be useful when developing and implementing flexible and adaptive differentiated curricula into modern vocational education in Russia.

The use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to better understand/enhance performance of engineered systems design, has deeply penetrated our profession. University academic content now selectively includes comprehensive graduate level courses in CFD. Typically, a large proportion of industry practitioners cannot access this formal content due to remoteness from campus. The newly established UT CFD Laboratory website renders this a non-issue via a fully functional Internet modality for CFD graduate course participation. It presents a totally time-and distance-insensitive fully participatory environment including comprehensive computer laboratory CFD experiments. Successfully completed content is applicable to a MSc degree, to a CFD Certificate or to CEUs when pursued as professional self-study. The scope, organization and illustrations of content of this Internet innovation is presented.
