Spatial planning is very important because it is a public space so whether or not a street space will affect all road users. Structuring street space is to increase user experience so that the best place of public space is achieved. To get the best place, we need to accommodate and clearly define each user of the space. Bendi as a mode of transportation certainly uses street space as a means of motion space. And it requires a clear definition of the movement of the bendi in a physical order that can prevent violations of the rights of other street users both pedestrians and motorized vehicles. The purpose of this study is how the standard of road spatial planning for bendi. The method used in this study is the collection of field data through qualitative descriptive analysis with several indicators, namely Characteristics and space for bendi, spatial planning standards, street space settings. The design concept of bendi lane is proposed in 2 types, namely a special lane with a straight line divider on the Hasan Esa street, the Pahlawan revolusi street, and the Djabar Syah street and integration on the Ahmad Yani street and the Nukila street.

The construction of the road network is carried out to support the growth and acceleration of the economic process and the development of the tourism industry. It is also projected to improve the socio-economic conditions of the community. In the last few years, the Central Java Government has built toll roads to connect several cities in Central Java in one fast lane. However, it was not followed by the construction of supporting facilities such as rest area that serves a place to rest for motorists when they experience fatigue during long trips. The existence of the place is still limited, and it was not evenly distributed along the toll road, causing long queues at the entrance of some rest area when the volume of the vehicles is overflow. Based on these problems, the purpose of this research is to study and develop the requirement of rest area that can meet the needs of motorists traveling through the toll roads in Central Java. To achieve these objectives, this research used a qualitative descriptive method to describe and explain the problems in the field, and further analyze them to get a comprehensive result. The result of this research is presented in the form of published research reports and scientific articles. It is expected to provide benefits to the relevant scientific field, especially those related to architecture in developing rest areas that suit the needs of road users.

An integral part of a well-functioning network of national roads are Rest Areas (RA). They are crucial for road safety, provided that they are properly arranged and designed (not too long distance between them and enough number of parking spaces). They allow the drivers to safely stop and rest (use the toilet, use the telephone, eat a meal, sleep, etc.). However, in Europe, there is a shortage of parking spaces. In Poland, the situation is additionally complicated due to the lack of the current methodology for RA planning and design. There are also no indications for which traffic conditions a calculation should be made and measurements should be performed. The objectives of this study were to determine the use of rest areas by passenger car drivers, including in particular the determination of the percentage of vehicles entering the given RA and determination of the appropriate time interval for parking demand data collection. It was found that use of RA depend of its individual facilities and direction of movement (varied from 2.1% to 19.3% of the main-line traffic) and it’s the biggest on Friday from 12:00 to 18:00. This study was conducted on four RA located in central region of Poland.

This study presents a novel model for evaluating design satisfaction (DS) for primary school construction projects. The proposed model consists of three aspects including Teaching space design, Campus planning and design, and Eco-awareness oriented and 19 DS evaluation items (DSEIs). Eco-awareness oriented was the most important aspect and must be exerted during the design phase of school construction based on the DS evaluation results of 10 schools. Additionally, special attention should be paid to design of natural lighting in classroom (DSEI5), utilization of color in classroom (DSEI7) and construction scheduling and planning (DSEI11) as they are important DSEIs that received low satisfaction scores. The results of this study contribute to the efforts to improve DS and the quality of primary school construction. The framework, methodology, and analytical tools used in the study can be applied to build similar models for other aspects of construction and service performance for school construction projects.

Among the key factors required for the adequate development and growth of children’s physical and mental health is the child’s outdoor activities. Master plans are inclusive and provide sustainable settlements when they accommodate and respond to children. An understanding of the child’s need for outdoor spaces will help build better public spaces thereby providing opportunities for better physical, mental and emotional health of children. This paper is an effort to explore those environmental settings which are conducive for their physical activities. It tries to uncover the spatial planning approach which can contribute to child friendly spaces. The study is an investigation and a comparative analysis of a planned and an organic settlement in an urban fabric; HSR layout and Mangammanapalya in Bangalore, India. A qualitative analysis of the various layers of the physical settings has been done. The investigations reveal how each settlement caters to and supports the physical needs of children. The goal is to make use of these findings in the future planning and design intervention of neighbourhoods. The findings for the planned settlement, HSR revealed the presence of amenities like parks, playgrounds and sports facilities which the children frequented. The organic settlement lacked the presence of parks but the street network pattern revealed a majority of dead ends which are used as play spaces by children. Increase in commercial use in the settlement of HSR brought about the threat of traffic and stranger danger which act as deterrents to the independent mobility of the child while Mangammanapalya because of its cul de sacs which discourage through traffic offered a relatively safe and sustainable environment for play and mobility on its streets. A child friendly route could act as a safe and interesting path for children to explore the neighbourhood.

Globalization, tourism, virtuality, climate change, and the explosive growth of cities have generated a wide range of stressors, pollutants, and toxins that have been ravaging populations. This, coupled with viral, bacterial, and other pandemics, is rapidly creating a new reality that requires public health factors to be integrated more thoroughly into the planning and design of city regions. This prompts a questioning of the role and form of city centers as well as the distribution of people and activities in city regions. This goes beyond more outdoor spaces, places, and activities and new criteria for indoor events. Moreover, public transport, mobility, and infrastructure in general need to be retooled to deal with these emergent circumstances.
