The Department of Human Settlements (DoHS) has over the years received reports on lack of proper implementation of the Supply Chain Management, in particular the management of movable assets processes. Asset Management is a sub-component within Supply Chain Management in the DoHS. Asset Management is responsible for the management of all movable assets procured by the department. Movable assets such as departmental vehicles, office furniture, computer sets, are used by the officials in performing their day-to-day functions. Officials in the Department are responsible for the management and safeguarding of the assets assigned to them. The research covered in this article aimed to investigate how the department manages its assets and complies with the transversal policies of Supply Chain Management (SCM), which deal with demand management, acquisition management, utilisation management and disposal management processes. The information covered within this research is from varying records, official documents and departmental policies, dealing directly with the problem at hand, especially the management and monitoring of movable assets. Varying methods of collecting and analysing data were used to achieve valid and reliable results. The researcher analysed and compared various information records that informed findings with regard to risk management and control measures, value for money, responsibility and accountability and intervention strategies that may bring about efficiency and effectiveness in the department with regard to management of movable assets. This was done to address the issue of audit queries received by the Department of Human Settlements.

In today’s complex and ever-changing world, concerns about the lack of enough data have been replaced by concerns about too much data for supply chain management (SCM). The volume of data generated from all parts of the supply chain has changed the nature of SCM analysis. By increasing the volume of data, the efficiency and effectiveness of the traditional methods have decreased. Limitations of these methods in analyzing and interpreting a large amount of data have led scholars to generate some methods that have high capability to analyze and interpret big data. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to identify the applications of machine learning (ML) in SCM as one of the most well-known artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. By developing a conceptual framework, this paper identifies the contributions of ML techniques in selecting and segmenting suppliers, predicting supply chain risks, and estimating demand and sales, production, inventory management, transportation and distribution, sustainable development (SD), and circular economy (CE). Finally, the implications of the study on the main limitations and challenges are discussed, and then managerial insights and future research directions are given.

In recent times, cyber-attacks have been a significant problem in any organization. It can damage the brand name if confidential data is compromised. A robust cybersecurity framework should be an essential aspect of any organization. This chapter talks about the security framework for cyber threats in supply chain management and discusses in detail the implementation of a secure environment through various controls. Today, a systematic method is used for handling sensitive information in an organization. It includes processes, people, and IT systems by implementing a risk management method. Distinct controls dedicated to different levels of domains, namely human resources, access control, asset management, cryptography, physical security, operations security, supplier relations, acquisition, incident management, and security governance are provided. Companies, contractors, and any others who are part of the supply chain organization must follow this security framework to defend from any cyber-attacks.

The logistics network in the oil industry is highly inflexible, which arises from the production capabilities of crude oil suppliers, long transportation lead times, and the limitations of modes of transportation and energy planning and management. The paper considers the key factors for reducing costs and increasing the company’s profits in managing supply chains: demand management, efficient distribution of petroleum products among customers, better transportation scheduling, warehouse management, and quality and timeliness of information through the automation of the supply chain. And this principle is carried out within the framework of the logistics concept of supply chain coordination - Supply Chain Management. The paper also considers advantages from implementation of supply-chain management. Implementation of supply-chain management in the oil industry can help to reduce costs, increase the company’s profits in managing supply, and manage the planning of deliveries.

Accomplishing veritable demand in a timely manner is a true challenge in present business circumstances especially for the fashion products where the demand is to get more varieties in short interval. Managing demand and supply is not that naïve as the supply chain is complicated by the outsourcing trend. This study aims to assess how brands in the fashion industry are managing their demand-supply chains (DSCs) by considering both trendy and regular product. This paper is based on the literature review of demand chain management (DCM) and also supply chain management (SCM) of the fashion industry. Also the research on demand-supply chain management (DSCM) is studied as a scope of demand-supply management in fashion industry. Textile and apparel processing stages are also studied to understand the manufacturing and supply chain complexity. The review identified that the degree of fashion sensitivity adopted by the retail brands influences their supply chain strategy. Fast fashion retailers urge to respond quickly and they need a flexible and responsive supply chain and contrariwise, others do need fast response but more efficiency focus with economy of scale. chains. The demand side aspects and supply side alignment will contribute insights on DSC organization in textile-apparel supply chain. Also textile and apparel manufacturers may have a clearer picture regarding the structure of retailers’ DSCs. The findings may also prove useful for them who are not aligned with the fast track concept, but yet supplying product in timely manner is their top priority. The co-ordination of complex and multidimensional textile-apparel supply chain with individual interest is still a concern and yet to be resolved. The objective of the study is to add knowledge for perceiving the importance of the co-ordination for mutual benefit.

Supply chain management is essential for enhancing an organisation’s position among its competitors by improving its efficiency and effectiveness. The fundamental goal of this study is to recognize the effect of the supply chain responsiveness, flexibility, and its adaptation within the Saudi Arabian business industry. The data in this study were collected from a sample of 390 participants in senior business positions, and then analysed using the multiple regression technique. The results indicated that both the measurements and model have satisfactory fit indices and showed that the three hypotheses raised in this study could be accepted. Additionally, the results demonstrated that both the responsiveness and adaptation of the supply chain exert a positive effect on how the supply chain performs. So, the faster the organisation responds and adapts to the supply chain activities, the higher performance they tend to get.

Today's organizations struggle for efficiency and effectiveness. Strategies involving collaboration between actors and integration of activity chains are reliant of factors that firms do not have direct ownership and control over. This has implications for strategizing, setting the goals and measuring performance. Efficiency and effectiveness are often used to describe performance. From a resource dependence perspective efficiency is defined as an internal standard of performance and effectiveness as an external standard of fit to various demands. This chapter attempts through a literature survey to search the main pillars and the determinant factors for efficiency in supply chain management and to present the effects in the competitiveness and the efficient level for an economy.

Supply chain management is a fledgling science which concerned with synchronization of both material flow and information flow by integrating companies for a common objective to meet the requirements of the end customer. Bullwhip effect is an important research topic of the supply chain management. The Bullwhip effect is precarious to both short and long run competitive advantage, the dependability sustainability advantage of the chain. This paper proposes to show the impact of the Bullwhip effect on the supply chain using experimentally simulated data from Beer distribution game. The game represents a simple supply chain which consists of factory, distributor, wholesaler and retailer. The paper used empirical models of ANOVA, spectral density estimation, ARMAX and Cochrane- Orcutt autoregression. The result of the study prevails that when we quantify the impact of the Bullwhip effect to different actors of the supply chain with respect of inventory holding cost and stock-out case it is found that different cost implications. When quantifying the impact of the Bullwhip effect to the whole supply chain it is found that at least one of the competitive advantages of the chain is lost. When generalizing it the all the actors in the supply chain will suffer from the Bullwhip effect. The overall evidence from statistical causality analysis suggest that without proper both intra-organizational and inter-organizational coordination of the companies across the supply chain it is difficult to have effective and efficient customer relationship management, customer demand management and inventory management.

Demand management is the supply chain management process that balances the customers' requirements with the capabilities of the supply chain. With the right process in place, management can match supply with demand proactively and execute the plan with minimal disruptions. The process is not limited to forecasting. It includes synchronizing supply and demand, increasing flexibility, and reducing variability. In this paper, we describe the demand management process in detail to show how it can be implemented within a company and managed across firms in the supply chain. We examine the activities of each sub‐process; evaluate the interfaces with corporate functions, processes and firms; and provide examples of successful implementation.
