The purpose of this study is to investigate determinants of users’ level of satisfactions with circulation policies in academic libraries in the North Central Zone of Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population comprised all the undergraduate registered users of the university libraries in the zone. The stratified random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 600 registered library users for the study from four university libraries in the zone. A total of one research question were raised and one hypothesis formulated to guide the study. A self-constructed questionnaire entitled: “Determinants of Gender and Users’ level of Satisfaction with Circulation Policies in Academic Libraries Questionnaire (DGULSCPALQ)” was the instrument used for data collection. A reliability of the instrument was carried out using 100 registered users of the Delta State University Library, Abraka over a time lag of two weeks in order to determine its content and construct reliability. Data generated were analysed using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation, which yielded an r of 0.80, which was considered adequate for the instrument. The data collected were analysed by using mean and standard deviation to answer the research question, while z-test statistical technique was used to test the formulated hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that Federal universities had moderate mean in the level of satisfaction with library opening hours than State owned Universities; The study also revealed that male library users had a high mean in the level of satisfaction with library opening hours on week days and a high mean score in level of satisfaction with the total number of cards issued for borrowing of items than female, there were no significant differences between federal and state universities in user’s level of satisfaction with library holdings, borrowers’ cards, loan period, fines and reservation. There was no significant difference between federal and state owned universities except in user’s level of satisfaction with library opening hours. Also, there was no significant difference between male and female users except in users’ level of satisfaction with library loan periods. Finally, it was recommended that public university libraries in the North Central Zone of Nigeria should extend their opening hours on Sundays to make the users more satisfied with opening hours on that day; that the libraries should ensure that their circulation policies on fines for damaged and lost borrowed materials should reflect the present realities/cost of the items.

The study investigated the malaise of indecent dressing that has pervaded the Nigerian university campuses. One research question and a hypothesis were raised to give direction to the study. The instrument used was a questionnaire entitled “Indecent Dressing in the University Questionnaire (IDUQ)”. IDUQ was administered to 300 students randomly selected from six universities in the North Central Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria. The data collected were analysed with frequency counts, percentages and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results of the analysis showed that a high percentage of the respondents agreed that most of the forms of indecent dressing listed in the questionnaire were common among university students. The result further revealed that there was a significant difference in the modes of dressing of students in private, state and federal government owned universities, in various forms. The pair wise comparison showed that the difference exists between federal and private universities; state and private universities whereas there was no difference between federal and state universities. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among other things, that university authorities should take decisive steps in curbing this social malaise (indecent dressing) by introducing dress codes for students and strictly enforcing it.

The purpose of this study is to determine the enhancement of users’ level of satisfaction with circulation policies in public university libraries in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was adopted for the study. The population comprised all the undergraduate registered users of the university libraries in North Central Zone of Nigeria. The stratified random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 600 registered library users for the study from four university libraries of which, 562 were retrieved from the users who were in the library. A total of seven research questions were raised and seven hypotheses formulated to guide the study. A self constructed questionnaire entitled; “Enhancing of Users’ Satisfaction with Circulation Policies in Public University Libraries in Nigeria Questionnaire” (EUSCPPULNQ) was the instrument used for the data collection. The data collected were analysed by using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while z-test statistical technique was to test the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that Federal universities had moderate mean in the level of satisfaction with library opening hours than State owned universities; The study also revealed that there was no significant difference between Federal and State universities in users’ level of satisfaction with library holdings, borrowers’ cards, loan periods, fines and reservation. The change in our ecosystem today has creates a lot social challenges. Climate change which is one of the major causes of ecological change is attributed to both the nature and human causes. The issue has resulted in many soft security issues such as health related security issue, food security issue and socio-economic issue. This study examines how ecological change has affected health security of the people in the study area. The study use a sample of three states in the North central zone of Nigeria. The study uses an observation of 385 and the data collected were analyses using Kendell tau test of concordance. The study has found that ecological changes have significant effect on health security in the study area. The study notes that ecological change increase vulnerability to diseases such as malaria, typhoid and zoonosis. These happening thus creates health related issues in the affected areas. On the basis of the finding, it is recommended people in the affect areas should need to be health cautious by treating their drinking water and using anti-mosquitos nets and to equally avoid contact with unfamiliar animals. Keywords: Ecological change, health security and test of concordance

This study was conducted to determine characteristics of Xanthomonas cucurbitae, the causal agent of bacterial spot of pumpkin, and survival of the bacterium in pumpkin seeds. Fourteen X. cucurbitae isolates from the north central region of the United States, along with the X. cucurbitae strain 23378 from the American Type Culture Collection, were included in this study. The range of minimum, optimum, and maximum temperatures for colony development of X. cucurbitae were 4 to 6°C, 24 to 30°C, and 34 to 36°C, respectively. Optimum pH for colony development ranged from 6.5 to 8.0. Leaves of 3-week-old pumpkins ‘Howden’ and ‘Dickinson’ were inoculated with X. cucurbitae isolates (108 CFU/ml). There was a significant difference in the postinoculation periods for appearance of bacterial lesions on the leaves among the isolates; however, there was no significant difference in diameters of the lesions on each of the pumpkin cultivar 7 days after inoculation. Four of the isolates caused significantly larger lesions on ‘Dickinson’ leaves than ‘Howden’ leaves. Naturally infected ‘Howden’ pumpkin and inoculated ‘Dickinson’ pumpkin seeds with X. cucurbitae were stored at 4 and 22°C. X. cucurbitae was isolated from both naturally infected and inoculated seeds 24 months after storage at both 4 and 22°C, and the isolated bacteria were pathogenic.

The Tröllaskagi peninsula is located in north central Iceland, between meridians 19º30’W and 18º10’W , limited by Skagafjödur fiord to the west and the Eyjafjödur fiord to the east, jutting out into the North Atlantic to latitude 66º12’N and linked to the central Icelandic highlands to the south. The peninsula is a Tertiary basalt plateau topped by flat summits with altitudes of 1000-1500 m, intensely dissected by the drainage network. The aim of this present study is to synthesize the recent advances in our understanding of the landscape and its dynamics in the Tröllaskagi peninsula and find the origin of its significant difference from the rest of Iceland. Results of the most recent research suggest the situation of Tröllaskagi as ice-free, delimited by the two great glacial outlets flowing down from the Icelandic Ice Sheet through the Skagafjödur and Eyjafjödur fiords, from at least the Oldest Dryas to the end of the Early Preboreal. Inland in Tröllaskagi, the glaciers formed in the north-facing cirques without losing their alpine characteristics during the Late Pleistocene and Holocene. The advances of these glaciers during the Oldest, Older and Youngest Dryas and the Early Preboreal were only a few hundred metres greater than the most important advance in the second half of the Holocene, during the Little Ice Age. Only a few of these glaciers remained debris-free and are sensitive to the minor climate oscillations. The rest, due to the important geomorphological activity on their walls, developed into debris-covered and rock glaciers and lost this significant dynamism.
