Global political developments – such as Brexit, climate change, or forced migration – are entangled with communication that transcends national publics. Meanwhile, the EU’s integrity suffers, also due to polarised online discourses, which are sometimes actively manipulated. Therefore, an overview of online communication beyond language barriers is essential. However, whether and how online media create a global space that sustains deliberation of national and global interests by citizens, remains understudied. We approach this problem by exploring relations between the Italian and German Twittersphere, while asking: 1) What is the macrostructure of this bilingual network? 2) Are there bridges between these language communities in the form of single accounts and how can they be described? 3) Are there bridges in the form of groups and what are they tweeting about? We build on an innovative network crawling strategy for language-based Twitter follow networks. We developed it further to combine strengths of rank degree, snowball, and forest fire sampling. Thereby, we collect a network sample of the most central accounts in the Italian-German Twittersphere. Preliminary results suggest a bridging quality of soccer and connections between political clusters of both languages by EU politicians. Furthermore, larger network clusters connect mainly with one linguistic domain while smaller communities show a bridging behaviour. The final paper will present results of months of data collection, focusing on the relation between topics discussed within clusters and their connectivity. While it focuses on the German-Italian Twittersphere, our methods open up new avenues of enquiry regarding multi-language public spheres.

Climate change in the Arctic affects both environmental, animal, and human health, as well as human wellbeing and societal development. Women and men, and girls and boys are affected differently. Sex-disaggregated data collection is increasingly carried out as a routine in human health research and in healthcare analysis. This study involved a literature review and used a case study design to analyze gender differences in the roles and responsibilities of men and women residing in the Arctic. The theoretical background for gender-analysis is here described together with examples from the Russian Arctic and a literature search. We conclude that a broader gender-analysis of sex-disaggregated data followed by actions is a question of human rights and also of economic benefits for societies at large and of the quality of services as in the health care.

The aim of the research is to see El-Dity radio's efforts to improve broadcast quality in the face of mass media competition. The research method is qualitative with data collection of observations, interviews, and documentation. Observations were made at the El-Dity radio studio, while the interview informants were the director and broadcaster of the bulletin program, the person in charge of reporting, and the broadcasters of El-Dity radio. The results of the study found that El-Dity radio had tried to improve the quality of bulletin broadcasts in order to face mass media competition, by selecting news that was interesting, broadcast worthy, up to date, and packaged in an attractive manner. Broadcasters try to present the news clearly, and another thing that El-Dity radio does to improve the quality of its bulletin broadcasts is to divide its broadcast segmentation with various types of regional, national and international news.

The Covid-19 virus became the beginning of a change in the face of the world, one of the sectors affected was the education sector. The government through the Ministry of Education and Culture gave a new policy in the form of distance learning. Students carry out learning from home but are still under the supervision of the teacher. Online communication is one of the keys to keep the educational program running well. Therefore, this becomes a new problem where teachers are required to provide interesting learning materials and in accordance with the characteristics of students. Currently, there are many online media platforms that can be used in learning, one of which is YouTube. YouTube is a social media or video sharing website where there are several categories in video groupings such as entertainment, sports, education, and so on. By utilizing this YouTube application as a learning medium, it can improve the quality of learning.

Abstract Online communication is often seen to promote audience fragmentation because it facilitates selective exposure and therefore is likely to divide audiences into sub-publics that hardly share common issues with other sub-publics. This study takes a micro-perspective on fragmentation by focusing on issue diversity in media items users have encountered in a particular week. Diversity was assessed via content analyses based on online diaries of 645 participants who recorded their media use concerning the German debates on climate change and federal elections. Findings show lower degrees of diversity for users of non-journalistic online media than for users of journalistic mass media.

This paper presents one of five categories of findings of a qualitative study of students' experiences of challenges encountered in a web-based graduate program. The findings relate to the category of experiences with online asynchronous discussions. Data collection relied on a discussion, questionnaire and interview all conducted within WebCTTM. The category's findings were grouped into four sub-categories of challenges as follows: student behaviour; text-only, online communication; purpose and quality of the discussion; and forum features. Challenges related to students' behaviour included domination of the discussion by individual students or groups of students resulting in feelings of exclusion, frustration and inadequacy. Text-only communication caused difficulties related to misinterpretation and conveying and deriving intent. Challenges related to the purpose and value of the discussion resulted from low quality and high quantities of postings to meet grade requirements. Technical features that presented challenges included the inability to delete messages.
