This article, based on Paulo Freire’s contributions, analyzes the collective experiences of riverside communities of the Marajó Archipelago, Pará, Brazil, in search of guaranteeing rights. It starts with the idea of education as a political act (FREIRE, 1987, 1992, 1996) and the critical discussion about the capitalist-colonial development model (CASTRO, 2010) to think and act in the face of the current social vulnerability. Methodologically, the line of interdisciplinary reflection in the fields of Popular Education and Sociology, which characterizes the critical approach of the article, was adopted. The primary sources came from the valorization of the word in conversation circles, from workshops on social organization and from the affirmation of culture in community activities. The results point to initiatives for the formation of residents’ associations, qualification for income generation activities and the recognition of the value of riverside communities as holders of histories, potencies and socio-territorial rights.

The article is devoted to the analysis of how post-structural notions of «text» and «textuality» influence academic biblical studies and traditional exegesis. The author shows, through a variety of examples, that the critical approach of Derrida’s philosophy helps the reader of Scripture who adheres to the traditional principles of traditional interpretation to defend his right to such a hermeneutic program in the face of biblical criticism and the challenges of academic rationality. In studying this influence, the author draws on the works of famous French philosophers: Jacques Derrida, Julia Kristeva, Roland Bart.

This article examines waqf(pious endowment) hotel projects developed by Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia(YWM) for the economic development of Malaysian communities. Hotel projects were selected as the scope of this study because of their function as large-scale commercial projects and their impact on the development of Malaysian communities. The study involved three waqfhotel projects in Peninsular Malaysia. This study used interviews as primary sources and relevant documents as secondary sources. Data were analysed using a thematic approach. This study found that waqf hotel projects contribute to the economy through the optimal use of land resources, income generation and employment opportunities. Thus, the implementation of waqfhotel projects have the ability to contribute to the socio-economic development of society and the state.

Significance The governing Nur Otan party won most seats and two tame allies were awarded a few. The importance of this election is that it offers pointers to how much power President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wields. None of his promises of political liberalisation has been realised and it is unclear how serious he is about change. Impacts Askar Mamin's reappointment as prime minister points to general continuity -- or stasis. Tokayev will defend Kazakh nationhood in the face of Russian politicians casting doubt on its territorial rights. Trends as regards civil liberties and freedom of expression are retrograde in both the real and virtual spheres. The OPEC+ bloc's special deal allowing Kazakh oil output to rise by 10,000 barrels per day in February-March offers some economic relief.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse the concepts of sustainability, responsibility and ethics focussing on their links and differences, also to understand how companies move respectively in these field; to understand how companies sometimes move away from the basic and deep meaning of these concepts, landing in a merely utilitarian sphere of personal advantage where ethics, instead of being an irreplaceable and essential stronghold, is found to be a fiction or just an instrument. Design/methodology/approach The methodology used assumes a theoretical critical approach and, based on the vast literature on the items, is based on a conceptual analysis of the themes of sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and ethics and of the behaviour that companies can adopt in the three contexts. A critical approach to these issues and concepts can effectively help us to understand how companies are responding to external demands and to the challenges of responsibility and sustainability, which are becoming increasingly pressing. Findings Ethics, sustainability, CSR and social and environmental reporting are distinct constructs with different meanings but linked by important conceptual and operational relationships. Research limitations/implications The results of the research are the consequence of the application of a critical approach based on a theoretical analysis of the concepts under study. It would be interesting to support the results achieved with empirical research studies. Practical implications This conceptual path helps scholars and companies themselves to understand the difference between the three key concepts analysed. Only by understanding the basic meaning will it be possible to really make one’s own and pursue it in the correct way. Social implications Nowadays, the authors are overwhelmed by these three concepts which are used as synonyms and incorrectly. This leads to confusion and misunderstandings. Knowledge of the characteristics and differences between these concepts and their concrete applications is of great importance. Originality/value This study tries to provide a critical discussion of how the three concepts intersect and differentiate, leading to concrete results or results that have nothing to do with their meaning. There are no conceptual papers in the literature that deal with the three concepts and also analyse the implications on the real world.
