The motivation of tertiary teachers in Cambodian higher education has not received much attention over the years. Specifically, very little is known about factors that motivate and de-motivate Cambodian tertiary teachers in choosing and remaining in their teaching careers. The purpose of the study is to investigate: 1) the factors which influenced teachers to choose teaching careers, 2) motivating and de-motivating factors associated with their teaching, and 3) motivations which may lead them to leave or stay in their teaching careers. It is important to examine the motivational factors that are influential for Cambodian university teachers in order to increase their teaching productivity so that the institutional effectiveness can be enhanced which will lead to improvement in the quality of Cambodia higher education. This research used a single exploratory case study within a qualitative methodology. The study was conducted at two departments in a typical public university in Cambodia. The data was collected through the implementation of one questionnaire that attracted 36 respondents and one semi-structured interview held with each of 8 volunteer participants. Thematic analysis was used to analyse interview data and open-ended questionnaire data. The findings of the study reveal that intrinsic factors were more important than extrinsic factors in influencing teacher motivation in becoming and remaining in teaching. However, extrinsic factors were de-motivating teachers in their teaching and may lead them to leave the profession. The findings are discussed in the context of some theories of motivation and previous empirical studies. Recommendations are made regarding strategies to be used and what further research can be undertaken to address the problem.

Higher Education (HE) institutions have been exploring new approaches that will enable them to manage with the increasing demand of access to education. One key area is in the usage of new models, new innovations, and new ways of delivering the curriculum, connecting students with their instructors such as the use of Social Media (SM) in teaching. This paper examined the factors that influence instructors’ use of SM in Ghanaian HE pedagogy. The study employed the concurrent triangulation mixed method approach using questionnaire and semi-structured interview guide to obtain data from two hundred and thirty-five (235) instructors who were selected using the multistage sampling technique from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and the Ghana Technology University College (GTUC). The key findings point to the fact that instructors’ professional rank, intrinsic drive, functionality of SM platforms, user friendliness, motivation, ease of use of the SM platforms, access to internet connection and ease of communication in using the platforms were the factors that influenced instructors use of SM for teaching. The study concludes by indicating the implications of the findings for policy on the use of SM for delivering instruction in Ghana and recommends the need for HE authorities to come up with motivational packages that would encourage instructors to integrate SM into the pedagogy of HE in Ghana.

Academic bodies (AB) are research groups that were formed in Mexico at the beginning of the present century, within a policy for the development of higher education teachers. The AB are responsible to train researchers in postgraduate courses. We inquire about what postgraduate students in the field of education say about what the teachers who are members of these AB help them to form the researcher ethos. We interviewed 67 postgraduate students in the field of education (43 women and 24 men) from three universities. We follow a qualitative methodology that combines ethnography with grounded theory and we use the software Atlas Ti to systematize the information. We find that students consider that it is enough to appropriate ethics (values and patterns of behavior) to act ethically and consider the ethical teacher’s mentoring as key in that process. They do not refer to strategies to help them: make decisions regarding conflicting values or norms (moral judgment), judge equity issues (prudential judgement) and assume responsibility for the future of humanity. This reveals that support of AB for the construction of the researcher ethos is insufficient.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) markedly focused on access to education for all through poverty elevation. All nations and especially developing countries like Pakistan had responded positively to achieve these MDGs. Afterward, UNO announced sustainable development goals(SDGs) agenda of 2030, fourth goal of which was about the quality of education in higher education institutes (HEIs).In this relation, the focus of present research was to analyze current implementations by institutes of higher education for imparting “quality education to promote life-long learning for all” under guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Therefore, it is important to ensure sustainability in providing quality education to future generations. For conducting this study, a qualitative approach was adopted to get opinions from the heads of departments about measures taken for sustainability. Population of this study comprised all the heads of the departments from all faculties of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. Whereas, sample consisted nineteen (19) heads from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, using purposive sampling technique. For data collection purposes, an open-ended semi structured interview protocol was developed, consisting of six questions. Thematic analysis technique was adopted to analyze the opinions of all heads of the departments to achieve SDGs to enhance quality of higher education. Results of study showed that most heads agreed to implement sustainable goals at university level within their capacity. Moreover, the lack of resources and expertise were the major obstacles for implementing these goals in their institutes. Technological developments that have taken place in the 21st century have also affected higher education institutions. These changes have created an obligation to respond to the effects and needs of globalization. In response to these developments, the emphasis on lifelong learning and individuals who “learn how to learn” in higher education institutions has become more and more important in order to educate individuals to fulfill the needs of the century. In general, studies on topics such as the development of lifelong learning in higher education and the role of leaders are limited in Turkey. Regarding this point of view, the current study aims at examining the perceptions of sustainability leaders studying in the higher education sector in Turkey in terms of the lifelong learning provided, the strategies applied, the difficulties faced, the experiences shared, and the sustainability practiced. Therefore, the study uses a descriptive phenomenological pattern under a qualitative research method. The study group was established with maximum diversity, using a purposeful sampling technique. The study group consisted of 10 middle-level managers working at the universities in the Marmara region. The topic was discussed with the study group members in depth. In this study, the data were collected with a semi-structured interview form created by the researchers. In the analysis of data, a content analysis method was used. As a result of the research, it was found out about those observed that administrators in higher education institutions define lifelong learning in a similar way to the definitions in the literature. In addition, the strategies of administrators for lifelong learning, their views concerning their experiences, and their views on the difficulties they encountered are revealed in the research. In the last part, practical recommendations suggestions are made using with regard to the results of the research.
