Abstract: This study was aimed to know problem solving skill of senior high school students in heat and temperature. The study was used descriptive-quantitative method and the sample of research was twelve grade students. The instruments that already used as a number of question problem solving skill had 0.732 reliability. The result was analyzed by using rubric of problem solving that already developed by Doctor. The result was obtained that problem solving skill was medium category. This category was included useful description and physics approach. On the other hand, mathematical procedure and logical progression were included as low category.
Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana tingkat kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa SMA pada materi suhu dan kalor. The author’s aim of the analysis presented in this article is an attempt at answering two questions: how high school students verbalize the lexeme sex, and whether it is possible to discern quantitative and qualitative differences in understanding and evaluating this notion by girls and boys. High school students were faced with three tasks concerning: 1. giving associations connected with the word sex; 2. listing adjectives collocating with the analyzed category; 3. constructing their own definitions of the noun. Both associations and collocations listed by the students appeared to be extremely varied and rich. They confirmed the opinion according to which every man treats sex differently and proved that young people are not afraid of their needs, desires or sexual dreams. Sex is not a taboo subject for them. Contrary to the associations, which abounded with an extremely large number of vulgar expressions, the definitions of the analyzed lexeme were, in fact, deprived of such attributes. Apart from a tendency to convey the word’s semantics precisely, the descriptions constructed by the high school students revealed emotionality. On the other hand, however, they showed changes in awareness, habits and social conduct of young users of the Polish language.

Supporting materials on Polish history for graduates have been examined from the statistic side. Counting was not the individual parts of speech, but the word-forming bases of autosemantic words. In the material studied, relatively high frequency of concepts connected with the phenomenon of war was observed. Common concepts are war, fighting, army. On the other hand, related to the notion of war, rare words form long lists in the layer of hapax legomena. It allows to interpret some historical narrations intended for high school students as focused on the phenomenon of war.

This study sought to determine if the implementation of standards-based learning in high schools affects students’ transition to learning in university courses. Surveys and interviews with 13 students who had graduated from high schools implementing standards-based learning and who had completed their first academic semester at a midsize, private, Midwest university revealed no detrimental effects. The most frequently mentioned transition difficulties related to social issues and time management. Implications for implementing high school grading reforms are discussed.

The diversity in the types of vegetation, Brazil is the second largest biome Cerrado, occupying 25% of the country, surpassed only by the Amazon. In Minas Gerais, the Brazilian state has about 10.3% of its area the Cerrado vegetation, covering mainly areas of the Upper and Middle Jequitinhonha. The flora of the cerrado has several fruit species with high potential for agricultural use, which are traditionally used by local people, and the fruits have high levels of sugars, proteins and minerals. Among the great diversity of plants and fruits present in the cerrado is the Eugenia dysenterica, popularly known as cagaita. The fruit is globular yellow color when ripe, slightly acid and can reach up to 4 cm long and up to 5 cm diameter. The work here exposed was led initially to a survey of state schools that have high school in the city of Sete Lagoas-MG. After this survey was chosen for the project development a nearby school of the Federal University of Sao Joao del Rei (UFSJ-CSL) for viability of the project and in which direction proved to be very available. 3rd year high school classes were chosen, totaling 55 students, selecting the students who had greater knowledge of the concepts studied and shown interest. Various activities with students have been developed, one of which is the application of a questionnaire in the first meeting, which enabled us to identify where the problems thereof. a booklet with texts followed fixation exercises and illustrative images on each topic worked in class and the students images developing the proposed project activities was developed. This study aimed to use a fruit of the Cerrado, cagaita to perform fermentation and subsequent distillation, to promote ownership of the concepts of chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology in high school students. Through the questionnaire at the end of the project, it was possible to assess the relevance of their work and the impact on the training of students. The study proved to be very promising for the students and the school, where probably, future students of the University. It is important to emphasize that the development of the project was very promising because it allowed greater interaction of students with dynamic classes, practical and contextualized, allowing a greater learning of them.

The starting point of the article is a cluster of reflections on the interdisciplinary potential of 'Lenten Lamentations' (Gorzkie żale). Subsequently, the text moves on to present the arrangement, methodology and foundations of empirical studies conducted in the year 2017 among a group of high school students from grades 1–3, who were put in charge of two tasks. In the first one they were supposed to say what the service of 'Lenten Lamentations' meant to them. The other one, which was an analysis of specific hymns from the liturgy, examines the impact of their lyrics on the students. The gathered material, which is very rich, makes it possible to assume a number of analytical approaches. The present article concentrates only on discussing a handful of selected results. The conclusions concern methods and ways of reading texts of culture in Polish literature classes.

Japanese high school students are not usually given the opportunity to take charge of their own learning in large mixed level classes, but are required to take many exams while at the same time developing their English competence. This gives the students a negative attitude towards English. On the other hand, when they are placed in situations where they need to communicate with people from abroad, they use English as much as possible in order to make themselves understood. This paper describes such students’ attitudes towards English and their learning environment and also considers ways to improve their autonomy.
