Rasayan is a branch of the Ayurveda. Charaka had described fulfilling the aim of the Ayurveda i.e., drugs act by preventing old age and diseases in the healthy person. Charaka stated about two types of medicine, one which promotes resistance to the body and another which cures diseases and Rasayan therapy play a key role in achieving these goals The main aim of Rasayan therapy is to promote the formation of or resistance which in modern terminology can be called as promoting the strength of the immune system. Bhallataka, a medicinal drug has the ability to penetrate deeply into the tissues and rejuvenate the body that’s why it was used to hold in high esteem by ancient sages of Ayurveda. Maharshi Charak emphasized the Rasayana property of Bhallataka and described ten types of preparations with it. He considered bhallataka as the best drug to cure the kaphaj vyadhi. Charak has categorized Bhallataka as Dipaniya -an appetizer, Bhedaniya- to break accumulated doshas, mutra sangrahaniya- antidiuretic, and Kusthaghna -antidermatosis. In the present study, review of the drugs had been made from Ayurveda classics. Because it is important to have an awareness regarding the Poisonous drugs, when used in the proper form & prescribed dose they act as a potent therapeutic agent. It is a fact that virtually any substance can be harmful at high enough concentrations as rightly quoted that “All substances are poisons; there is none which is not a poison. The right dose differentiates a poison from a remedy.”

Purpose: Previous studies reported a peripheral immune asymmetry and lateralization of different paired organ cancers. Because of the close relationship of immune system with body temperature, the aim of the study was to test the possible lateralization of skin temperature. Materials and Methods: Four hundred sixty three healthy subjects (325 women, 138 men) with an average age of 23.62 years (SD = 8.65) participated in this study. All skin temperature measurements were done 8:00-9:00 a.m. Skin temperature was assessed for three different points in skin: axillary, thumb and external auditory. Results: Skin temperature was statistically significantly higher on the right side of the body than on the left side, when measured by axillary and thumb temperatures. But there was no statistically significant difference in external auditory temperature. Conclusion: The asymmetry of skin temperature may result from the peripheral immune asymmetry or the asymmetric lymph node distribution.

In the population of Poland, as well as in other European countries, an aging process is taking place. It is expected that in Poland in 2050, up to 35% of the population may be seniors. With increasing age, there are numerous changes in the body that necessitate the modification of the current diet. Incorrect diet is a risk factor for many old age diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases, osteoporosis, atherosclerosis, stroke, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. The aim of this study is to review the nutrition recommendations in selected diseases of the elderly. The diet of seniors should provide the right amount of nutrients and be adapted to existing diseases. A proper diet can reduce the risk of complications from senile diseases.

Primary Calvarial Tuberculosis, a rare entity of skull is even rarer after second decade of life in a healthy person without evidence of tuberculosis elsewhere in the body. Most of the cases are often misdiagnosed as osteomyelitis/syphilis/bony metastasis. We report a case of primary skull tuberculosis in 26-year-old male with complains of headache and swelling in the right frontal region with no history of previous tuberculosis. The patient was operated and the histopathological examination of excised tissue was suggestive of tubercular pathology. The patient is doing well after anti-tubercular therapy. Being a rare disease, tubercular osteomyelitis of skull bones is often missed and misdiagnosed due to lack of clinical suspicion and slow growth of mycobacterium cultures. Histopathological examination of biopsy material and demonstration of acid-fast bacilli in the pus are helpful for diagnosis and early management of the disease.

The article discusses Aristotle’s views of old age, which has usually been opposed to Plato’s high esteem thereof. The passage on which this opinion is based is Rhetorics II, 1389b 13 - 1390a 23 which highlights many defects of the ethical character regarded as typical of old age: meanness, mediocrity, diffidence, selfishness. However, this harsh judgment has to be attenuated by considering the context in which Aristotle’s discussion is placed, his objective was description of typical negative features of an audience consisting of old men rather than a balanced and objective discussion and judgment. Aristotle, nevertheless, thinks of the old age and youth as two negative extremes which he opposes to the positive ripeness and perfect balance of mature age. He tends to regard old men as unfit for responsible political tasks and reserves for them the rather symbolic religious functions. In biological terms, he stresses the fact that old age is the time of progressive decadence leading to increasing debility and death. Thus, unlike Plato, who thought of senility as the time of severing the links attaching the soul to the body favorable to the soul’s liberation, Aristotle’s philosophy provided him with no premises for any „praise of old age”.

Humans are constantly invaded by environmental microbes. The body is protected from pathogen attacks by the immune defense system. In 99.8% of the time, our innate immune system is capable of getting rid of these organisms without before these can cause harm. Those who are with weaker immune systems constantly get infections and having chronic diseases. Among many factors contributing to maintaining a robust immune system, vitamin D has the highest impact. It has a major protective effect against acute respiratory infections and subduing both communicable and non-communicable diseases. A healthy person with stronger immunity may not manifest clinical signs and symptoms of COVID-19-silent, asymptomatic carriers of the virus and can be infectious. Whereas not all PCR positive persons are infectious. A rapid response occurs through the innate system that is followed by the adaptive response that lasts a longer period. Vitamin D kick starts both systems. However, the protective immune and other functions are damped in the presence of hypovitaminosis and also when the levels are fluctuating. Thus, the importance of maintaining serum 25(OH)D at a steady level above 30 ng/mL. When maintaining such, among all nutrients vitamin D has the widest benefits to multiple body systems. Thus, this sunshine vitamin (a steroid hormone) has been modulated through evolution to emerge as a key survival mechanism in humans. Nevertheless, vitamin D is not a panacea.

Decoy immunization relies on misdirecting the T and B cells of the immune system away from immunogenic regions against which one does not want to generate antibodies, allowing the desired region to be profiled. Essentially, it involves immunizing animals with two forms of the targeted protein on opposite sides of the body. One form, with the region of interest removed (i.e., a modified protein), is injected into the left side of animal, whereas the intact protein of interest is injected into the right side. In theory, undesired B cells are drawn to the left side of the animal, leaving the desired B cells to be drawn to the right (specifically, in the procedure presented here, to the right popliteal lymph node).

These Tables have been compiled from notes of 2086 examinations made at St. Marylebone Infirmary between 1839 and 1847, and of 528 examinations in cases of insanity made at the Somerset Lunatic Asylum, between 1848 and the end of December 1860, comprehending, in all, a period of twenty-one years. The Tables are submitted with the hope that they may aid in forming a standard of the weight of the human organs at different stages of life from early infancy to old age. The cases are distributed under eighteen periods of life, and the Tables show the height and weight of the body, and the weight of the encephalon and its several parts, the right and left lung, the heart and all the abdominal organs; giving the maximum, minimum and average in each period.
