Background: Both non- and under-utilization of antenatal services can lead to poor materno-fetal outcomes. Perception of the effectiveness, safety and timeliness of the services by pregnant women may substantially affect the utilization. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine pregnant women’s perception of the effectiveness, safety and timeliness of the antenatal services provided by midwives, and the relationships between effectiveness, safety and timeliness of antenatal services at government-owned healthcare facilities in South-South Nigeria. Method: A cross-sectional research design was adopted for the study. Multistage sampling technique was used to select 30 primary, secondary and tertiary government-owned health facilities across the six States in South-South Nigeria from which 50 respondents were selected from each of the selected facilities. A total of 1,500 pregnant women were selected for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a self-developed Questionnaire on Pregnant Women’s Perception of the Effectiveness, Safety and Timeliness of Antenatal Services Provided by Midwives. The reliability of the instrument was established through the test-retest method using Cronbach’s alpha which yielded co-efficient of 0.715. Data collected were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean and Spearman Rank order correlation. Results: The result showed means of 4.27+0.68, 3.72+1.03, 3.23+1.17 respectively for pregnant women’s perceived effectiveness, safety and timeliness of antenatal services provided by midwives. Significant relationships also existed between safety and effectiveness (rho = 0.33, p < 0.001), as well as between timeliness and effectiveness (rho = 0.10, p < 0.001) of the antenatal services. Conclusion: Pregnant women in South-South Nigeria had a positive perception of effectiveness, safety and timeliness of the antenatal services provided by midwives. Midwives in government-owned healthcare facilities should conduct regular evaluations to get feedback from pregnant women regarding the quality of antenatal services they provide.

Antenatal care or antenatal care is a planned program that is observation, education and medical treatment for pregnant women, to obtain a safe and satisfying pregnancy and childbirth process. The indicator used to assess the access of pregnant women to antenatal care is K1 direction (first visit) is the contact of pregnant women to health workers and K4 (perspective visit) is 4 or more times contact with health workers. From the data of the Padang City Health Office, it was found that the Air Tawar Puskesmas with this low level was caused by various factors. The purpose of this study was to determine factors related to the use of antenatal services. This type of research is a quantitative study with cross sectional study design with 110 respondents of third trimester pregnant women with purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed univariate, bivariate with Chi squre test. From the research results obtained from the five factors studied, it was found that the factors related to the use of antenatal services in freshwater health centers were access or distance with pvalue 0.009 = OR 21.676), service availability factors with a p value of 0.001 = OR 9.293, the role factor midwives with a p value of 0.001 = OR 12.302, while the family income factor, disease complaints obtained results have nothing to do with the use of antenatal services. The author's suggestion is that there is a need for good coordination with the Independent Practice Midwife (BPM), revitalize puskesmas to more strategic places and improve better facilities, improve accessibility that can be minimized, strive to reach pregnant women, especially for accessibility that is less affordable.

Background: Antenatal care (ANC) provides an important opportunity to improve maternal understanding about pregnancy, childbirth, and care of the newborn. Adequate and quality ANC can help ensure a favourable pregnancy outcome, but the coverage of ANC in India remains inadequate. The present study was conducted with an objective to assess ante natal counselling services at health centers in Chandigarh Tricity. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted in the Chandigarh Tricity during April 2012 to September 2013. Stratified multistage sampling technique was used to select health centers in tricity. A total of 345 pregnant women in second and third Trimester were interviewed with the help of pre-designed, structured and pre-tested questionnaire after taking their written informed consent. It was supplemented by observation of ante natal sessions. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS version 19.Results: Nearly one-fourth (28.1%) participants received counselling regarding diet and rest. Only 26 (07.5%) participants were explained about danger signs during pregnancy. Significant difference was found between counseling given regarding ‘diet and rest’ with respect to city (p=0.03) and health centers (p=0.00). Significant difference was found between counselling for ‘family planning’ with respect to city (p=0.01) and health centers (p=0.00).Conclusions: Findings from our study indicate low level of counselling on various components of ANC. Thus, strategies under National Health Mission to improve quality of antenatal communication as well as maternal understanding should be strengthened.

Background: In the resource-poor setting, unintended pregnancy is exacerbated by several factors that result in high maternal and newborn deaths. Given the considerable gap between actual and wanted fertility rates in Ethiopia, preventing unintended pregnancy can play a role in reducing complications, morbidity, and mortality. The purpose of this study was to determine unintended pregnancy and its correlates among ever pregnant women in Bitta woreda, Southwest Ethiopia. Methods: Quantitative data from a community-based cross-sectional study among 770 ever- pregnant women (15-49 years) were employed. A random selection using multistage sampling technique was exercised to select study participants. Logistic regression models were used to asses factors associated with unintended pregnancy. Results: In the study area nearly, thirty-seven percent of women have experienced an unintended pregnancy: mistimed (26%) and unwanted (11%). Three percent of the respondents had a faced an induced abortion. A relatively higher proportion of women aged 26-29 years reported experiencing unwanted and mistimed pregnancies. Women who traveled a longer distance (more than an hour) to family planning service area were more likely to face unintended pregnancy (AOR=2.23(1.37-3.63)). A woman who had more than five parity were more likely to experience unintended pregnancy 5.52(2.50-12.20).Conclusions: The unintended pregnancy remains higher in the study area which is more than the national average. Existing unintended pregnancy among young women urges family planning providers to deliver youth-inclusive family planning programs.

The component of antenatal care received by pregnant women is classified as incomplete because the implementation of standard pregnancy services is still using conventional methods. There are obstacles faced by midwives, such as the limited time in a recording, which has an impact on the declining quality of antenatal care standards. This research aims to compare the effectiveness of the use of KIA books and MONSCA applications in midwives in the application of the standard Antenatal service 14 T. This research was conducted in Puskesmas Tanete and Puskesmas Bontobangun Bulukumba District. The method used in the study is experimental quasi (pre-test post-test nonequivalent control design). Using a sample of midwives in this study, as many as 36 people were divided into two groups (18 intervention groups and 18 control groups). The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney Test. The results showed that there was a difference in the effectiveness of using KIA books with MONSCA applications, MOSCA's applications were easier to use, faster, safer, and more accurate than KIA books. It can be concluded that the MONSCA application is more effective than KIA books. Key words: Effectiveness, Android-based Smart Continuity of Care application, KIA book, Antenatal service 14 T
