Introduction: Mentoring is an important strategy to support the development of a transformational leader. It involves the nurturing of a personal career, intellectual growth/development, as well as improving corporate knowledge, and making employees feel valued. Aim: This study aims at exploring the knowledge and opinions of nurse leaders on clinical mentoring using pre-test and post-test evaluations. Methods: It is a pre-test and post-test single-subject design among 135 Chief Nursing Officers (CNO) that attended the Nurse Leaders’ Summit. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, and probability value p<0.05 was used to determine the significance of the descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The study revealed that 56.3% of the respondents had adequate knowledge of mentoring at pre-, and 74.1% at post-evaluation; 91.1% claimed to be mentors; 57% were not assigned to a mentee; while 64.4% of them had a good opinion of mentorship and were willing to practice clinically based mentoring. Conclusions: Mentoring is an effective intervention to build the capacity of nurses and improve the quality of healthcare delivery.

The National Department of Health in South Africa has introduced the National Core Standards (NCS) tool to improve the quality of healthcare delivery in all public healthcare institutions. Knowledge of the NCS tool is essential among healthcare providers. This study investigated the level of knowledge on NCS and how the NCS tool was communicated among professional nurses. This was a cross-sectional survey study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select hospitals that only offered tertiary services in KwaZulu-Natal. Six strata of departments were selected using simple stratified sampling. The population of professional nurses in the selected hospitals was 3 050. Systematic random sampling was used to recruit 543 participants. The collected data were analysed using SPSS version 25. The study showed that only 16 (3.7%) respondents had knowledge about NCS, using McDonald’s standard of learning outcome measured criteria regarding the NCS tool. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the communication and knowledge was r = 0.055. The results revealed that although the communication scores for the respondents were high their knowledge scores remained low. This study concluded that there is a lack of knowledge regarding the NCS tool and therefore healthcare institutions need to commit themselves to the training of professional nurses regarding the NCS tool. The findings suggest that healthcare institutions implement the allocation of incentives for nurses that attend the workshops for NCS.

Abstract This research aims to examine the implementation of cognitive behaviour therapy to self-confidence of people with disability at Wyata Guna Social Institution for People with Visual Impaired, the subject is 1 person, total visual impaired (IK), 20 years old, has low confidence according to the observation conducted in accordance with confidence characteristic by Peter Lauster (2002) related to stuttering, less participate in starting talk, aloof behaviour and supported by the score of Peter Lauster (2002) self-confidence test translated by Gulo that IK has low confidence characteristic. The method used action research with Single Subject Design ABA model which is aimed to monitor IK behaviour on baseline (A1), intervention and baseline (A2) phase.The result showed that the Cognitive Behavior Therapy intervention proved to enhance self-confidence of people with visual impaired. According to the observation there is a change in positive and significant that is proven from the hypothesis result to the bahavior where the deviation gained is greater than 2 standard deviant (2SD). Moreover it is also supported by the score of self-confidence test of Peter Lauster (2002) on the post-test that has increased with strong average category. Researcher also performed epsilon variable measurement to know the determination coefficient level with a score of 94% while the 6% is the epsilon variable outside factor of Cognitive Behavior Therapy such as influence from family especially parents and peer influence in the environment of subject that contributes to self-confidence of research subject (IK). The interview result showed that IK experienced positive benefit by following the intervention program. Key words: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Self-Confidence Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji penerapan cognitive behavior therapy terhadap kepercayaan diri penyandang disabilitas netra di Panti Sosial Bina Netra Wyata Guna Bandung. Subjek penelitian berjumlah satu orang, penyandang disabilitas netra total (IK), usia 20 tahun, memiliki kepercayaan diri rendah berdasarkan observasi yang dilakukan sesuai dengan karakterisitik kepercayaan diri menurut Peter Lauster (2002) yang berkaitan dengan perilaku gagap, perilaku kurang berinisiatif dalam memulai pembicaraan, perilaku menyendiri, dan didukung juga berdasarkan skor Tes Kepercayaan Diri Peter Lauster (2002) diterjemahkan oleh Gulo bahwa IK memiliki kategori kepercayaan diri rata-rata lemah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan (action reseach), dengan desain penelitian Single Subject Design model ABA yang bertujuan memonitor perilaku IK pada fase baseline (A1), fase intervensi, dan fase baseline (A2).Hasil penelitian menunjukkan intervensi Cognitive Behavior Therapy terbukti dapat meningkatkan kepercayaan diri penyandang disabilitas netra. Berdasarkan observasi yang dilakukan mengalami perubahan yang positif dan signifikan, hal tersebut terbukti pada hasil uji hipotesis terhadap perilaku di mana nilai selisih yang diperoleh lebih besar dari 2 standard deviant (2SD). Selain itu didukung pula dengan hasil skor tes kepercayaan diri Peter Lauster (2002) pada post-test yang mengalami peningkatan dengan kategori rata-rata kuat. Peneliti juga melaksanakan pengukuran variabel epsilon untuk mengetahu tingkat koefisien determinasi dengan nilai 94%, sedangkan 6% lagi adalah nilai dari variabel epsilon yaitu faktor di luar penerapan Cognitive Behavior Therapy berupa pengaruh dari keluarga terutama orangtua dan pengaruh teman sebaya dari lingkungan subjek yang berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan kepercayaan diri subjek penelitian (IK). Hasil wawancara juga menunjukkan bahwa IK merasakan manfaat positif dengan mengikuti program intervensi. Kata kunci: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Kepercayaan Diri

BACKGROUND HIV infection is one of the most leading infections in the world. According to WHO HIV constitutes to be a major global public health issue, having claimed almost 33 million so far. There were an estimation of 38.0 million people living with the HIV at the end of 2019. As a result of concerted international efforts to respond to HIV , coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2019, 68% of adults and 53% of children living with HIV globally were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART). There is no cure of HIV infections , however effective antiretroviral drugs can the control of virus and help onward transmission to other people. The knowledge regarding HIV infections in the public is a not much. The study focuses on the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge regarding the HIV among the drivers in Kancheepuram, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pre and post test of the self instructional module. For the study 60 samples were adopted by purposive sampling technique. The pre test was conducted by giving the structured questionnare then the module was given and then the post assessment was conducted. The study was conducted for 1 week. In the pre assessment 52(86.7%) were having inadequate knowledge and 8(13.3%) had moderately inadequate knowledge. In the post test 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10(16.67%) has adequate knowledge. The effectivess of self instructional module was calculated by the paired t test (t=12.880) was found to be statistically highly significant at p<0.001 OBJECTIVE To assess the pre test level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. (2)To determine the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV among drivers. (3)To find the association between the level of knowledge with their selected demographic variables METHODS Quantative research approach and pre experimental one group pre test post test design was used to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV to drivers. After obtaining permission from Saveetha College Of Nursing , the investigator selected 60 drivers by using purposive sampling technique. The sample who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique . The investigator introduced and explained the purpose of the study to the samples and obtain the written confirmed. The purpose of the study were explained to the drivers. Section A: It consist of the demographic variables which include Age, sex, education. Occupation, monthly income, religion, marital status, type of family and dietary pattern.Section B- It consist 25 multiple choice questions to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module. RESULTS The drivers most of them 26(43.3%) were in the age group of 41 – 50 years, all 60(100%) were male, 45(75%) were private employee, 21(35%) had monthly income of 9000 – 11000 and above 11000 respectively, 45(75%) were married, 32(53.3%) belonged to nuclear family 45(75%) were non-vegetarian. Section B : Assess the pretest level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. The finding of the pretest 52(86.67%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(13.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge. Whereas in the post test, 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10( 16.67%) had adequate knowledge on HIV among drivers CONCLUSIONS The findings revealed that the existing level of knowledge on HIV among drivers was improve the knowledge about HIV to be effective awareness by administered self instructional module

Objective: It is unknown whether patients’ ratings of the quality of healthcare services they receive truly correlate with the quality of care from their providers. Understanding this association can potentiate improvement in healthcare delivery. We evaluated the association between patients’ ratings of the quality of healthcare services received and uptake of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. Subject and Methods: We used two iterations of the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) of adults in the United States. HINTS 2007 (4,007 respondents; weighted population=75,397,128) evaluated whether respondents were up-to-date with CRC screening while HINTS 4 cycle 3 (1,562 respondents; weighted population=76,628,000) evaluated whether participants had ever received CRC screening in the past. All included respondents from both surveys were at least 50 years of age, had no history of CRC, and had rated the quality of healthcare services that they had received at their healthcare provider’s office in the previous 12 months. Results: HINTS 2007 data showed that respondents who rated their healthcare as good, or fair/poor were significantly less likely to be up to date with CRC screening compared to those who rated their healthcare as excellent. We found comparable results from analysis of HINTS 4 cycle 3 data with poorer uptake of CRC screening as the healthcare quality ratings of respondents’ reduced. Conclusion: Our study suggested that patients who reported receiving lower quality of healthcare services were less likely to have undergone and be compliant with CRC screening recommendations. It is important to pay close attention to patient feedback surveys in order to improve healthcare delivery.

BACKGROUND Physician rating websites are gaining popularity, however, data on their usability and influence on healthcare quality is limited. OBJECTIVE to provide an overview of physician rating websites in the US and find answers for the following questions: 1. What are the most commonly studied/rated physician rating websites in the US? 2. Which specialty of physicians/providers are most commonly studied/rated? 3. How many physicians were rated on the studied PRWs? 4. What is the average number of ratings on these websites and are they positive or negative? 5. How does the profile of providers influence their rating? 6. How are PRWs associated with healthcare quality? 7. How PRWs are associated with patient-physician relationship? METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted through Medline for peer-reviewed articles in the English language on studies conducted in the US. RESULTS 33 articles published in peer-reviewed journals were included in the final review. Most of the studies were conducted on surgeons. A significant number of studies observed no correlation of online ratings with gender, geographic location, and years of experience. Additionally, no significant correlation was found between PRWs and healthcare quality. CONCLUSIONS It has been observed that with the current structure of these websites, the reliability of information available on them is rather questionable, and hence more research is required to assess the credibility of these websites along with their cost-effectiveness, effect on the patient-physician relationship, and quality of healthcare delivery.

The study was purposed to consider how encouraging use of locum nursing could aid in managing nurse shortage in the country and consequently improve the service quality of healthcare in Ghana. To be able to address the research problem and achieve the objectives, thirty public hospitals and thirty private hospitals were selected from the three major cities in Ghana to provide data for the study. Also, 250 locum nurses were sampled for information. Nursing Supervisors or Hospital Administrators from the selected hospitals were use as informant for the study. The paper adopted a survey approach, where incidental sampling technique was used to select the hospitals, and the snowball together with incidental sampling methods were used for selecting locum nurses for the study. Mean and standard deviation were the data analysis method used. The findings confirmed that locum practice in Ghana is relatively low. Similarly, the paper also suggested that locum contribute to addressing the issue of nurse shortage in Ghana. At the same time locum nursing was found to contribute to quality healthcare delivery in the country. Appropriate policy directions were recommended.

Introduction Breast self-examination (BSE) is a self-generated, non-invasive and non-irradiative method of breast cancer detection. Self examination of the breasts each month after the menstrual cycle is the simplest yet extremely important way to detect early breast cancer. It has been observed that women can detect 95% of breast cancers and 65% of early minimal breast cancers themselves. This method is harmless, less time consuming and can be performed by any woman.Objective To assess the effectiveness of educational intervention programme regarding Breast Self Examination among girl students of study school.Methodology Pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for this study. In total, 61 girls were included. The result were analysed by using both descriptive as well as inferential statistics.Results In pre-test 75.4% had inadequate and only 1.6% had adequate knowledge regarding Breast Self Examination, in contrast, after the intervention the adequate knowledge was increased to 62.3%. The overall mean score was increased from 33.07% to 85.14%. The test of significance revealed that the increment in BSE knowledge score due to program intervention was highly significant (P< 0.001).Conclusion The educational intervention programme on BSE was found to be highly effective as the knowledge score was significantly increased after intervention of the package among higher secondary school girls.Birat Journal of Health Sciences 2016 1(1): 13-19

With the advancement of technology, patient information has been being computerized in order to facilitate the work of healthcare professionals and improve the quality of healthcare delivery. However, there are many heterogeneous information systems that need to communicate, sharing information and making it available when and where it is needed. To respond to this requirement the Agency for Integration, Diffusion, and Archiving of medical information (AIDA) was created, a multi-agent and service-based platform that ensures interoperability among healthcare information systems. In order to improve the performance of the platform, beyond the SWOT analysis performed, a system to prevent failures that may occur in the platform database and also in machines where the agents are executed was created. The system has been implemented in the Centro Hospitalar do Porto (one of the major Portuguese hospitals), and it is now possible to define critical workload periods of AIDA, improving high availability and load balancing. This is explored in this chapter.

Back ground: An experimental study was conducted to assess the effects of instructional teaching programme (ITP) on knowledge and practices of mothers regarding prevention of pneumonia in children, Pooncherry, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, India.Objectives of the study were to assess the effectiveness of ITP on prevention of pneumonia on level of knowledge and practices among mothers of under five children. Materials and Methods: Non probability purposive technique was adopted for this study. Samples who met inclusion criteria were participated in the study. Self-structured interview schedule for knowledge  and structured rating scale for practices were used to collect the data. Results: The study results shows that in the pre test 15.13 % of the mothers had adequate knowledge, 24.34 % of the mothers were had moderately adequate knowledge and 60.53 % of the mothers had inadequate knowledge and  and in post test 63.17% of mothers were had adequate knowledge, 28.94% of the mothers had moderately adequate knowledge and very few (8.55% ) mothers had inadequate knowledge. Pre test practices score shows that 63.82 % of the mothers had less desirable practice, 22.37% of the mothers had moderate desirable practices and 13.81% were had highly desirable practices whereas in the post test 63.82% of them had highly desirable practice, 23.03% of them had moderate desirable practices and 13.16% of them had less desirable practices. The mean pretest knowledge score was 5.45 ± 1.47 and the mean posttest knowledge score was 8.49 ± 0.71 and the t value was 15.17, it shows that statistically there was an improvement in the post test knowledge score. The mean pretest practice score was 22.38 ± 2.76, the mean posttest practice score was 43.64 ±1.97 and the t value was 13.35, it shows that statistically there was a significant improvement in the post test practice score. The instructional teaching programme on prevention of pneumonia was statistically effective in promoting the knowledge and desirable practices among mothers.

Aim: The study aims to create awareness among Tobacco users on knowledge regarding Oral Health Hazards. Objectives: i) To assess the pre and post test level of knowledge of oral health hazards among tobacco users. ii) To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge of oral health hazards among tobacco users. iii) To find the association between post test level of knowledge regarding oral health hazards among tobacco users with their socio demographic variables. Methods & Materials: A quantitative research approach-Pre-experimental research design with one group pre test and post test design was adopted. 50 samples were selected for the study by using non probability purposive sampling technique. Results: The study findings shows that in pre test level of knowledge among 50 samples 42(84%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(16%) had moderate adequate knowledge. In post test level of knowledge among 50 samples 33(66%) had moderate adequate knowledge and 17(34%) had had excellent knowledge. The pre test mean was 5.74 with the standard deviation of 10.29 and the post test mean was 14.6 with the standard deviation of 9.91 the mean difference of pre and post is 8.86; standard error is 1.401 ‘t’ value is 34.775 significant at p<0.05 it indicates that the knowledge level of tobacco users improved after structured teaching programme. The finding of the study shows that there is significant association between level of knowledge with occupation p<0.05. Conclusion: The study finding shows that, the post test level of knowledge is better than the pre-test knowledge. Hence it can be concluded that, structured teaching programme on oral health hazards was effective in improving the knowledge level among tobacco users.
