The aim of the paper is to analyse, whether and to what degree that tourism is a way of rejuvenating shrinking cities located on the coast. The research is based on three cities, and the adjacent regions, located in Uzbekistan (Mo'noq), Romania (Sulina) and Georgia-Abkhazia (Sukhumi). Tourist attractions connected with nature, culture, history and cuisine are examined, along with the land use and tourist infrastructure. The research indicates that the three sites have great tourism potential, with a focus on nature-oriented tourism. It also suggests that infrastructure, transport, access to information and land use can have a strong, positive or negative impact on tourism attractiveness. Additionally, the threats that uncontrolled tourism can bring are considered - it has been shown that unsustainable tourism and an excessive influx of tourists are threats to the environment and to local societies. A balance between economic and environmental value should therefore be maintained in the process of developing tourism.

Inbound tourism has its own characteristics, which makes it economically attractive for any country in the world. The predominance of the outbound tourist flow in the structure of the general tourist flow testified the need to concentrate the state policy in the field of tourism in the direction of stimulating domestic and inbound tourism, which will allow to obtain positive socio-economic consequences from their development. The analysis of the incoming tourist flow for travelling shows the types of tourism in which Ukraine can currently compete in the international tourist market, provided that the corresponding competitive advantages are strengthened and reinforced. It can also reorient some outbound tourists to domestic destinations. Inbound tourist flow in Ukraine is characterized by uneven tourist attractiveness of different regions of Ukraine among foreign tourists. This does not allow to implement completely the tourism potential of certain regions. The analysis of the incoming tourist flow structure by the countries of arrival of foreign tourists make it possible to identify the priority geographical directions of the international marketing policy for promotion of the national tourist product. The impact of Covid-19 on inbound tourist flows to Ukraine in recent years is considered, as well as a number of key issues hindering the development of domestic inbound tourism over the past decade. This allows us to identify the key tools to stimulate the development of inbound tourism in Ukraine. They are based on the optimization of tax policy in the field of tourism, public funding for the modernization of tourist infrastructure, optimization of tourist formalities, marketing strategy to promote the national tourist product at the international level and its information support.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has negatively impacted local tourism industries worldwide, including in Malaysia where the tourism industry contributes significantly to the country’s economic income and employment opportunities. While sector has received regulatory financial assistance to sustain their business and retain employees, more market measures are needed to promote domestic tourism as the main vehicle for filling the tourist income gap from the decline in inbound international tourist arrivals. Similar previous studies were focused on business-as-usual conditions with unrestricted international travel, however there is a research gap focusing on tourism in Malaysia under current conditions of recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gedambaan Village is one of the villages that has tourism potential in Kotabaru Regency, namely Gedambaan Beach. To examine terrorism impacts on international tourism industry in Asia, we collected data from 46 countries from 1995 to 2016, with a total of 1,012 samples. Our results showed that terrorism had a more consistent negative impact on international tourism revenue (ITR) than on international tourist arrivals. While the frequency of terrorism had a significant positive impact on ITR, when controlling for terrorist events which did not cause fatalities, such positive impact changed to negative. A further finding was that the Asian tourism market greatly developed following the 911 event, even though ITR decreased in Muslim countries with high risk of terrorist attacks. The current study makes a contribution to the understanding of terrorism features which may prove useful to strengthening antiterrorism policy in the tourism sector.

The Indian tourism industry has flourished in the past few years, significantly contributing to the nation's gross domestic product, foreign exchange earnings and employment. India, with its rich natural beauty, is unquestionably a destination that should promote tourism. Over the past few years the Indian government has taken various measures to do this, but the tourism potential of the country has still not been maximized. This paper presents an empirical analysis of the determinants of international tourist arrivals in India using annual data from 1966 to 2000. The results show that sociopolitical factors – communalism, terrorism and tensions with Pakistan – constitute serious threats to the tourism industry, limiting the gains that could otherwise have been realized.
