Lifelong learning has been recognized by many internationally renowned organizations which claim that people should possess certain life skills or competences to live in a world full of complex uncertainties. In this study, we propose A phaslised, thematic and socialised (PTS) pedagogy as a teaching approach to address the issues concerning how to equip learners with better capabilities. The qualitative method was employed based on a case study where interviews with several stakeholders were conducted. Observation of PTS practice and analysis of school documents were also carried out. The findings revealed that this strategy emphasizes a learner-oriented path, the development of their problem-solving ability and the culture of mutual partnership and intensive cooperation in the teacher community. Despite of several merits originating from PTS pedagogy, there remain a few issues to address, including the challenges to teachers in practising this approach, the appropriate means to evaluate students’ learning outcomes and the degree of autonomy granted to the students.

Kata kunci: Instrument Tes, Keterampilan Proses Sains, Pelajaran IPAAbstractScience process skills (KPS) are skills that are used by scientists in shaping knowledge in solving problems and formulating results. Problem solving and research skills are Life skills and therefore are the highest learning outcomes students must learn. This study aims to determine the science process skills in students of SMPN 14 Bengkulu City. This research uses quantitative descriptive methods. Data collection techniques were obtained using a questionnaire instrument in the form of a structured questionnaire. Structured questionnaire (closed) is a type of questionnaire after the question formulation is also provided alternative answers that can be chosen by respondents. then the data is analyzed in a quantitative descriptive manner which is to describe the score in every aspect observed. The results showed that the lowest value was 30 (including low criteria), moderate value was 55 (including moderate category) and the highest value was 95 (including high criteria). Based on data from 16 respondents. This indicates that some of the students do not yet have science process skills and some already have science process skills.Keyword: Test Instruments, Science Process Skills, Natural Sciences

The objectives of the research are to find out (i) the problems that the lecturer faces in teaching translation; and (ii) the way of lecturer solves the problems in teaching translation. The researcher employed qualitative method in form of naturalistic approaches for the study. The data resources for the research included one lecturer and students. The instrument for the research consisted of observation, interview and document files. In analyzing the data, the researcher employed cyclical model by Miles and Huberman. The results showed that, (i) the problems that the lecturer faced were from students themselves: lack of vocabulary, lack of knowledge in grammar-structure, semantic, unmotivated student or passive students, students were difficult in looking up the word in the dictionary, the students tended to use translation machine  and another problem was from outside the student  was lack of advanced dictionary; (ii) the lecturer solved the problems by reviewing the material, simplifying the material by taking very close examples, using more than one language in teaching, giving tips to translate, approaching the students by asking questions, organizing the class and providing quiz, exercises, assignments, and providing advanced dictionary, and comparing the use of translation theory than translation machine in translating. Key words: lecturer performance, teaching translation, problem solving

Problem solving is the core and primary objective of mathematics teaching. This study aimed to describe the problem solving abilities of sophomore engineering students of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) through the use of case study type, qualitative research method. Results showed that in terms of the ability to identify goals in a problem, the process of problem solving, and the skills of students in problem solving, the respondents showed a satisfactory performance. The most common method used by the respondents in problem solving was the use of equations or formulas, while the least preferred methods were the strategy of working backward and logical reasoning. The respondents displayed difficulty in answering problems in motion, geometry and set operation while the problems about sequence, rate, age, money/investment, combination, time were found easy to solve. Teachers and educators of mathematics are advised to develop instructional materials and activities that will equally address the three different context of problem solving, namely, goal of the problem, process in problem solving, and problem solving skills of students. Keywords - Mathematics Education, problem solving, abilities, goal, process, skill, qualitative method, Nueva Ecija, Philippines.

One of phenomena that occur in the educational world is the issue of discrepancies that occur between theory the pre-service teacher learned in college with implementation when they should teach in thereal fields (schools). Problem Based Learning (PBL) becomes one of the efforts to bridge the existing problems. This research is conducted to find out the extend of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Micro Teaching course since the course must be accomplished by students before carrying out practical activities in the real field in the school at teaching training program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And in this research the writer uses case study as a research design to find out the purpose of the research. The participants of the the research are 8 students from a class of micro teaching course in English Department of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. In this paper, The Students as the Pre Service Teacher(s) are coded PST(s). The writer uses observation as the instruments of the research. Theory of Miles and Huberman are used to collect data from observation. Regarding to the discussion above, the four aspects of competences of effective teacher are shown in the teaching practice done by the students of Micro teaching course that apply Problem Based Learning (PBL). The majority results of the observation explain that applying Problem Based Learning in Micro Teaching course develops pre-service teachers competence in their teaching in classroom. This research shows pre-service teachers can integrate their competences and create good performance in their teaching practice.
