Este estudio se realizó en la escuela de Educación Especial “Hermana Maureen Courtney”, año 2010, Bilwi, RAAN, Nicaragua. Aporta información respecto a los elementos metodológicos que inciden en la enseñanza del español en los estudiantes del primer grado de la Escuela de Educación Especial. Se utilizó la metodología descriptivo- cualitativa, de corte transversal porque es un estudio sincrónico. Se observó el desarrollo de algunas clases de español, se aplicaron entrevistas abiertas a estudiantes, docentes y subdirectora. Entre los resultado se observó que la docente utilizó una metodología tradicional basada en el método silábico y parte del método fonético-analítico-sintético (FAS), incluyendo la tradicionalidad en la organización del aula, es decir una formación de estudiantes sentados en hileras. Además es poca la utilización de medios y materiales didácticos y casi ausencia en la motivación. Consideramos de importancia esta investigación para el fortalecimiento de la enseñanza del español en Educación Especial. Por esta razón se recomienda profundizar en esta temática en futuras investigaciones, lo que ayudará a una mayor sensibilización y mejora de la calidad en la docencia. SUMMARY This study was conducted at the Special Educational School "Sister Maureen Courtney", during the year 2010, in Bilwi, RAAN, Nicaragua. It provides information regarding the methodological elements that affects the teaching of Spanish in the first grade students of the Special Educational School. We used a descriptive-qualitative methodology, cross-sectional because it is a synchronic study. We observed the development of some Spanish lessons and interviews were applied to students, teachers and subdirector. Among the results it showed that the teacher used a traditional methodology based on the syllable and phonics-analytic-synthetic methods (FAS), including traditionality in classroom organization, namely, making students to sit in rows. Furthermore there is little use of media and materials and almost no motivation. We consider this research important for strengthening the teaching of Spanish in Special Education. For this reason it is recommended to deepen this issue in future researches, which will help raise awareness and improve the teaching quality.

Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. CC is mainly caused by human papilloma virus (HPV), which can be prevented by vaccination. We conducted a cross-sectional study in secondary occupational health school (SOHS) through a questionnaire aimed to assess the awareness and knowledge regarding HPV infection of students. A total of 2248 students participated in the survey, 45.3% of them had heard about CC, while only 21.9% of them had heard about HPV; and 74.2% had no idea of the causal link between HPV infection and CC. Most participants displayed poor awareness and knowledge about HPV infection. The results suggested that age, grade, major, academic performance, etc. were correlated with higher awareness of CC, HPV and HPV infection (p < 0.05). In multivariable logistic analysis, third-grade students had the most increased awareness of CC (OR = 17.13, 95%CI: [8.11, 36.15]), HPV (OR = 6.59, 95%CI: [4.16, 10.43]) and HPV vaccine (OR = 2.78, 95%CI: [1.78, 4.32]) when compared to first-grade. Awareness and knowledge regarding HPV infection were insufficient among students in SOHS. As the future healthcare providers, these results highlight the need to supplement targeted education to improve their awareness and knowledge of HPV and vaccination.

Abstract Background In many developing countries, the prevalence of dental caries has increased due to lifestyle changes, lack of preventive services, and inadequate access to dental care. In Arab countries, the increased prevalence of caries has correlated with economic growth over the past decades, resulting in greater access to unhealthy foods and higher consumption of sugar, particularly among children. However, few studies have assessed caries prevalence among pediatric populations in Arab countries. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of dental caries and factors associated with caries among children in Tripoli, Libya. Methods This cross-sectional study included a convenience sample of 1934 children in first grade (age 6–7 years, n = 1000) and seventh grade (age 11–12 years, n = 934). Four health centers in Tripoli were selected for screening based on location and participation in school-entry health examinations. Data were collected through self-administered parent surveys and visual dental screenings by trained examiners from September 24 to October 15, 2019. The survey comprised questions about socioeconomic characteristics and oral health behaviors, including toothbrushing, sugar consumption, and dental care history. During screenings, untreated decay, missing teeth, and filled teeth (DMFT or dmft) were recorded. Prevalence of tooth decay was calculated as the proportion of children with high DMFT/dmft scores. Binary logistic and negative binomial regression analyses (with significance at p ≤ 0.05) were used to assess factors associated with caries. Results Among 1000 first-grade children, 78.0% had decay in their primary teeth, with a mean dmft of 3.7. Among 934 seventh-grade children, 48.2% had caries in their permanent teeth, with a mean DMFT of 1.7. The most significant factors associated with caries prevalence were socioeconomic, such as screening site (first grade, p = 0.02; seventh grade, p < 0.001) and maternal employment (seventh grade, p = 0.02), and behavioral, such as toothbrushing duration (seventh grade, p = 0.01), past dental treatment (both grades, p < 0.001), and past emergency visit (both grades, p < 0.001). Conclusions Caries prevalence was associated with several behavioral and socioeconomic factors, including screening site, maternal employment, toothbrushing duration, past dental treatment, and past emergency visit. Efforts should be made to address these factors to minimize barriers and improve oral health behavior and care utilization. These findings can be used to evaluate current public health initiatives and inform future planning.

This study had the objective of describing the socio-demographic and professional profile, as well as the working and health conditions of informal workers in the commerce of the municipality of Jequié, Bahia. It is an epidemiological, cross-sectional study, conducted with 434 informal commerce workers at the Supply Center of Jequié. The data were analyzed descriptively using SPSS 15.0. It was found that 54.6% were male, mean age was 42.7 years, 50.9% were married/in a stable relationship, and 44.6% had an incomplete first grade as education. The professional aspects showed that the difficulty in finding employment was also the most reported reason that led individuals to the performance of informal activities (39.9%). There was wide variation in average monthly income and working hours. According to the demand-control model analysis, most workers were defined as high-strain (28.1%). Low back pain and hypertension were the most self-reported morbidities. One hundred and forty individuals (32.3%) had suffered accidents. We suggest the strengthening of public occupational health policies aimed at informal workers.

Debate sobre a trajetória da Educação Especial no Estado do Maranhão, enfocando a institucionalização da área no órgão governamental responsável pela educação, das primeiras iniciativas ao ano de 2002. Apresenta análise documental realizada em registros do órgão estadual de educação: propostas, projetos, relatórios dentre outros. Acrescenta referências pontuais à educação regular visando situar o surgimento da Educação Especial no contexto da educação geral. Indica a criação de setores; os serviços oferecidos; o processo de encaminhamento e a relação público/privado. Caracteriza a Educação Especial maranhense apontando a correspondência com o desenvolvimento do quadro nacional; início do atendimento nas áreas de deficiência visual e auditiva; criação das classes especiais para a área de deficiência mental para alunos que já estavam na escola; relação com a rede privada; entrelaçamento com a área da saúde; oscilações na representação da área na estrutura do órgão governamental responsável pela educação. Este artigo tem como objetivo discutir as ações dos Conselhos Municiais dos Direitos da Pessoa com Deficiência em relação a Educação. Consideramos que a consolidação deste Conselho se deu com reivindicações, lutas e disputas de diferentes segmentos da sociedade, e que, portanto, pode ser um espaço importante para as lutas das pessoas com deficiência, mesmo que como espaço de direitos formais. Para esta pesquisa, buscamos elucidar as demandas, disputas e reivindicações relacionadas direta ou indiretamente, com a educação dos sujeitos deficientes, objetivando refletir sobre os limites e possibilidades da ação do CMDPD referentes aos assuntos relacionados a educação. Para tanto, utilizamos como procedimento metodológico a análise de documentos, dos quais se destacam decretos e normativas e 17 atas de reuniões com CMDPD de Florianópolis. Obtivemos com essa análise a compreensão de como surgiu este conselho no Brasil e no município em tela; os sujeitos que os compõem; as temáticas mais debatidas e, foco de nossa análise, como, com quem e qual a discussão efetivada sobre o tema educação. Compreendemos que alguns litígios relacionados a educação especial permanecem nesse Conselho como a relação Público x Privado. A temática da educação é efetivamente invisível nesse conselho e que nos faz a identificar outra seara: a pouca importância dada a efetiva escolarização dos sujeitos com deficiência nessa sociedade.Palavras-chave: Conselho Municipal. Educação. The Municipal Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of Florianópolis: the invisibility of the education themeABSTRACTThis article aims to discuss the actions of the Municipal Councils of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in relation to Education. We believe that the consolidation of this Council has resulted in, struggles and disputes of different segments of society, and that, therefore, can be an important space for the struggles of people with disabilities, even as an area of formal rights. For this research, we seek to elucidate the demands, disputes and claims related directly or indirectly, with the education of disabled subjects, aiming at reflecting on the limits and possibilities of the CMDPD relating to matters related to education. For this, we used as a methodological procedure the analysis of documents of which stand out decrees and regulations and 17 minutes of meetings with CMDPD of Florianópolis. We obtained with this analysis the understanding of how this council appeared in Brazil and in the municipality in screen; the subjects that compose them; the most debated topics and, the focus of our analysis, how, with whom and what the actual discussion about the subject of education. We understand that some litigation related to special education remains in this Council such as the Public x Private relationship. The issue of education is effectively invisible in this council and which makes us identify another crop: the little importance given to the effective schooling of the subjects with disability in this society.Keywords: City Council. Consideramos que la consolidación de este Consejo se dio con reivindicaciones, luchas y disputas de diferentes segmentos de la sociedad, y que, por lo tanto, puede ser un espacio importante para las luchas de las personas con discapacidad, pero como espacio de derechos formales. Para esta investigación, buscamos elucidar las demandas, disputas y reivindicaciones relacionadas directa o indirectamente, con la educación de los sujetos discapacitados, con el objetivo de reflexionar sobre los límites y posibilidades de la acción do CMDPD sobre los asuntos relacionados con la educación. Para ello, utilizamos como procedimiento metodológico el análisis de documentos, de los cuales se destacan decretos y normativas y 17 actas de reuniones con CMDPD de Florianópolis. Obtuvimos con ese análisis la comprensión de cómo surgió este consejo en Brasil y en el municipio en pantalla; los sujetos que los componen; las temáticas más debatidas y, foco de nuestro análisis, cómo, con quién y cuál la discusión efectuada sobre el tema educación. Comprendemos que algunos litigios relacionados con la educación especial permanecen en este Consejo como la relación público x privada. This research aims to analyze vocabulary in the English Materials textBook for the first grade of senior high school. This study focuses on the vocabulary presented in the English Materials Book for High School First Grade. This research was conducted to solve the  issues of the importance of vocabulary as a part of learning content and the appropriate vocabulary for learning content including a textbook based on Tomlinson’s theory.  which is also under Tomlinson's theory. The research design is descriptive qualitative analysis with the book as the main source for gathering the data. The book consists of fifteen chapters, and each chapter provides vocabulary content. The information on this exploration is the material of the English Materials textbook. The after effect of this research shows that the English Materials textbook  satisfies 15 measures or 93,7% corresponds with  the Tomlinson's theory. Kajian ini berfokus pada kosakata yang disajikan dalam Buku Materi Bahasa Inggris untuk Kelas Satu Sekolah Menengah Atas. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memecahkan masalah pentingnya kosakata sebagai bagian dari konten pembelajaran dan kosakata yang sesuai untuk konten pembelajaran termasuk buku teks berdasarkan teori Tomlinson. yang juga di bawah teori Tomlinson. Desain penelitian adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif dengan buku sebagai sumber utama pengumpulan data. Buku ini terdiri dari lima belas bab, dan setiap bab menyediakan konten kosakata. Informasi tentang eksplorasi ini adalah bahan dari buku teks Materi Bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku teks Materi Bahasa Inggris memenuhi 15 ukuran atau 93,7% sesuai dengan teori Tomlinson. Dengan cara ini, buku teks materi bahasa Inggris cocok digunakan untuk siswa.

Neste artigo analisamos as demandas que emergem do processo de implantação da política de inclusão na Educação Especial no Brasil.Demandas referentes a novos sujeitos; a formação e prática, que envolve o debatesobre o currículo, e o atendimento educacional na educação inclusiva. Este estudo tem por base pesquisas realizadas em municípios do Estado do Pará e,também, o levantamento bibliográfico sobre a educação inclusiva no Brasil, incluindo análise de documentos sobre a legislação referente à política da Educação Especial.O estudo aponta que há necessidade de se evidenciar as demandas, problematizar a política, que não atende as especificidades regionais, mas sobretudo, apontar pistas, caminhos teóricos e metodológicos para a inclusão escola e social do aluno público-alvo da Educação Especial.Palavras-chave: Educação Especial. Objective To analyze the prevalence of pediatric allergic airway disease (PAA) and recognize its impact on cognitive function, childhood activities, use of early intervention, and missed school days. Study Design Cross-sectional analysis of National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), 2014 to 2017. Setting US households. Subjects and Methods An NHIS survey of US children and responding caregivers was analyzed to determine the prevalence of PAA, including allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. Associations were determined between the presence of PAA and activities limited by difficulty remembering, limitation in the amount of childhood play, use of special education/early intervention, and number of missed school days in the past 12 months. Multivariate analysis was used to adjust for age, sex, race, ethnicity, and income level. Results An estimated 11.1 million (10.6-11.6 million, 95% confidence interval) children (mean age, 9.9 years; 56.9% male) reported a diagnosis of PAA (15.1% [14.6-15.6%]). Children with PAA missed 4.0 (3.7-4.4) school days per year vs 2.2 (2.1-2.4) days for those without PAA ( P < .001, adjusted). PAA was associated with limited daily activities due to difficulty with memory (odds ratio, 1.8 [1.2-2.9]), limitations in childhood play (3.2 [2.2-4.7]), and need for special education/early intervention services (1.6 [1.4-1.8]) after adjusting for age, sex, race, ethnicity, and income level. Conclusion PAA is a common condition and is associated with declines in cognitive function and school attendance as well as increased use of special education/early intervention. Given the significant prevalence and burden of illness of PAA, further attention is needed to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract Background Combating the COVID-19 pandemic is a major challenge for health systems, citizens and policy makers worldwide. Early detection of affected patients within the large and heterogeneous group of patients with common cold symptoms is an important element of this effort, but often hindered by limited testing resources, false-negative test results and the lack of pathognomonic symptoms in COVID-19. Therefore, we aimed to identify anamnestic items with an increased/decreased odds ratio for a positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR (CovPCR) result in a primary care setting. Methods We performed a multi-center cross-sectional cohort study on predictive clinical characteristics for a positive CovPCR over a period of 4 weeks in primary care patients in Germany. Results In total, 374 patients in 14 primary care centers received CovPCR and were included in this analysis. The median age was 44.0 (IQR: 31.0–59.0) and a fraction of 10.7% (n = 40) tested positive for COVID-19. Patients who reported anosmia had a higher odds ratio (OR: 4.54; 95%-CI: 1.51–13.67) for a positive test result while patients with a sore throat had a lower OR (OR: 0.33; 95%-CI: 0.11–0.97). Furthermore, patients who had a first grade contact with an infected persons and showed symptoms themselves also had an increased OR for positive testing (OR: 5.16; 95% CI: 1.72–15.51). This correlation was also present when they themselves were still asymptomatic (OR: 12.55; 95% CI: 3.97–39.67). Conclusions Several anamnestic criteria may be helpful to assess pre-test probability of COVID-19 in patients with common cold symptoms.
