Writing English composition is more complicated than Indonesian compositions. Therefore, students often make errors in writing English compositions. This study aims at finding out the errors made by the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 31 Medan in writing English composition and to find out the causes of those errors. The population of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 31 Medan in Academic Year 2017/2018. The sample is class VIII-A with 30 students. The instrument for collecting data were the students’ English compositions and the questionnaires. The result from the students’ English compositions showed that third singular verb in morphological errors is the highest error made by the students (55,10%), followed by errors in definite article (20,40%), errors in Possesive Case (12,24%), errors in Comparative Adjective or Adverb (12,24%); the errors of syntactical errors in Verb or Verb Phrase (50%), Errors in Noun or Noun Phrase (25%) and Errors in Word order (25%). It means that the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 31 Medan are poor in writing English compositions. While the result of the questionnaires showed that there are several reasons that cause students error. The three highest reasons are the students do not have a sufficcient vocabulary, students do not comprehend how to use the third singular verbs, article and possesive and the English teacher never asked the students to write English compositions. Thus, the students are suggested to study and more about writing English compositions and to do exercises about it. The teacher should give more writing practice to the students.

This study was aimed to know the attitude of students towards the use Reflective Journal Writing a writingactivity at the excellent classes of eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Solok in 2019/2020 academic year. The research method used in this study was quantitative descriptive. The population in this research was the excellent classes of eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Solok in 2019/2020 academic year. The total of population was 66 students of 2 classses The technique sample used was total sampling, where all the students in excellent classes, class VIII A and VIII B were  included as the sample in the research. To get the data of the research, the researcher used questionnaire. The research design included a 5 point Likert-type questionnaire which were strongly agree (SA), Agree (A), Undecided (U), Disagree (D), and strongly Disagree (SD). In this case the researcher used 44 number of statements which based on 3 indicators of students’ attitude. The indicators of attitude were divided into cognitive, emotion and behavioral aspects. The finding of this research show the final percentage of students’ attitude towards reflective journal writing was 76%, it was classified as in the “very good” level. It means students had a very positive attitude towards the use of reflective journal writing as writing activity.

This thesis is purposed at proving the effectiveness of cartoon videos in teaching speaking to the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 2 Rantau Kalimantan Selatan in academic year of 2013/2014, and showing that there is a significant difference in speaking ability between the students who were taught by using cartoon videos and those who were taught by using conventional method. This study is an experimental research. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Rantau Kalimantan Selatan in academic year of 2013/2014 which consisted of seven classes. The total number of population was 158. There were two classes taken as the sample, Class VIII B serving as control class were taught by using conventional method, while class VIII F as the experimental class were taught by using cartoon videos. Class VIII B consisted of 22 students and class VIII F consisted of 22 students. Both classes were given the pre-test at the beginning and the post-test at the end after the treatment. The data were collected by using speaking test. The data were analyzed by using t-test computation, descriptive analysis, and inferential analysis. The research findings show that there is a significant difference in students’ speaking ability between the experimental group taught by using cartoon videos and those who were taught by using conventional method. The result of the pre-test shows that both groups are poor, while the post-test result shows that the experiment group is better than the control one. The mean score of the experimental class in pre-test was 42.50 and that of control class was 42.73. The mean score in post-test of the experimental class was 75.68 and that of the control class was 57.50. It can be seen that the mean score of the experimental class was higher than that of control class in post-test. Furthermore, based on the hypothesis testing, it could be seen that the value of -t obtained (-5.245) < - t table (-2.018), at the significant level 5%. This implied that there is a significant difference of students’ speaking ability between the students who were taught by using cartoon videos and those who were taught by using conventional method.

Stirred Word and Sentences is a strategy that used to improve students’ writing skill for eighth grade students of MTs. Ma’arif Sukosari. The purpose of this research was to find out how the improvement of students’ writing skill by using Stirred Word and Sentences for the eighth grade students of MTs. Ma’arif Sukosari in academic year 2017/2018. The subject of this research was students of the eighth grade class VIII B in MTs. Ma’arif Sukosari which consisted of 15 students. This research was conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) that consisted of two cycles, in each cycle consisted of two meetings and four stages, there were: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The researcher used three instruments in this research, there were: Observation Checklist, Questionnaire and Test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of Stirred Word and Sentences could improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade students of MTs. Ma’arif Sukosari in academic year 2017/2018. It was seen from the result of Observation Checklist was 55 % in cycle I up to 85 % in cycle II, it meant the students was active. The questionnaire’s result showed that the students were interested in this method. It can be seen from total of questionnaire I was 66.7 % and the questionnaire II was 91.1 %. The students’ percentage who reached minimum standard of passing grade in cycle I was 53.3 % and in cycle II was 100 %, it meant this research was successful.

The research aims at knowing and finding whether or not the application of four corner debate is effective to improve students speaking skill at the eighth grade students of SMP Jamaluddin ArRumi Jatisari Jenggawah Jember in academic year 2016/2017. The population of the study was 78 students with the number of sample 31 students in class VIII B. The research was a preexperimental research in which only one class which was treated using the technique. The data collection was administered through conducting speaking test and scored students performance. Afterwards the scores were converted to the school passing grade and then calculated in paired ttest. The result showed some data including students average score in pretest and posttest. The average score in pretest was 67.59 and 76.15 in posttest. It indicated an improvement for 8.65 points. The result of paired ttest calculation was 8.61 and the ttable score was 1.697with 0.05 significance level of score and DF 31 (32 to 1). The score analysis indicated that the ttest score was higher than the t-table score. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was approved which means the application of four corner debate in the classroom is effective to teach English speaking to the eighth grade students of SMP Jamaluddin ArRumi Jatisari Jenggawah Jember in academic year 2016/2017. The research aims at finding out the influence of Word Chain Game in increasing the students’ vocabulary with two research objectives.This research was conducted at MTs Barana Jeneponto Regency in Academic Year 2018/2019. In this research, the population was 60 students in the eighth grade. The sample was 40 students. There were 20 students in Class VIII A as experimental class and 20 students in VIII B as controlled class. The research applied non equivalent control grup design. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test, in fill in the blank form. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was a significant improvement in the students’ vocabulary after being taught using Word Chain Game. It was proved by the result of the statistical analysis of the level significance P = 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) = 38 indicated that the t-test values of the students’ vocabulary (2.492) was higher than t-table value (2.042). Therefore, word chain game also gives opportunities for the development of teachers, learners, and learning itself. Those opportunities can increase students’ motivation and responsibility, a student-centered approach based on individualization, and also accepting the new and dynamic learner's and teacher's roles.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of examples non examples learning model on the ability to write an official letter of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bojong Academic Year 2015/2016. This study uses an experimental method conducted from April to May, white a population of this research is all class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Bojong students in the academic year 2015/2016. The sample technique used is cluster random sampling, so that from the sampling technique the sample obtained is the class VIII B and class VIII A. Each of them is 28 students. So the overall sample is 56 samples. The VIII B class was given treatment in the form of the use of examples non examples learning model. Whereas class VIII A used an expository learning model in the learning process. Based on the results of data processing, it was obtained an illustration that the students’ official letter writing skill using the examples non examples learning model in the experimental class was quite good. It could be seen from 28 students, there are 20 students or 71.41% who get score more than 68. While the rest 8 students or 28.56% got a score between 50-67 by an average score of 71.78; highest value 83, and lowest value 50. While the students’ official letter writing skill using the expository learning model is not good. As illustrated by 28 students who were sampled, there were 10 students or 35.7% got more than 54. While the remaining 18 students or 64.27% got scores between 30-53. by an average score of 51.35; the highest value is 64, and the lowest value is 30. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a positive influence on the use of examples non examples learning model on the ability to write an official letter for eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bojong academic year 2015/2016.

The objective of the study is to find out the effect of using save the last word for me method toward students’ writing skill for the eighth grade students’ at SMPN 36 Batam in academic year 2016/2017. The kind of this study was quantitative research. The research design was experimental design. In this study focused on quasi experimental design. The population of this study was all students for the eighth grade at SMPN 36 Batam in Academic Year 2016/2017 consist of 270 students. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Then, the total number of sample was 60 students that consisted of 30 students of class VIII.6 who were taught by using Save The Last Word For Me method and 30 students of class VIII.4 who were taught by using Think Pair Share method. The data was collected by test. The data was analyzed by using normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis test. The result showed that the t-observed was 2.97 and the t-table was 2.002. It means that t-observed was higher than t-table. Therefore, alternative hypothesis () was accepted and null hypothesis () was rejected. The research found that there was a significant effect of using Save The Last Word For Me method toward students’ writing skill for the eighth grade students’ at SMPN 36 Batam in academic year 2016/2017

In learning a language, the first thing people should learn is vocabulary. Vocabulary is one of the essential aspects of language.  Without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed.  In other words, vocabulary is the core of the language itself.  The aim of this study is to find out whether or not Substitution and Cued Response Drills Technique gives improvement on students’ vocabulary mastery.  The subject of the study is the students of Class VIII E of SMP Negeri 41 Medan in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.  Vocabulary test, questionnaire, observation sheet and field notes were used as the instruments for collecting data. The results of the study showed the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery.  It is proven by the students’ mean score of each test: pre test is 45.37, formative test is 58.28 and post test is 70.12.  Moreover, the improvement could also be seen from the Minimum Mastery Criteria (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum) that showed the percentage of students’ score of pre test is 9.37%, formative test is 31.25%, and post test is 56.25%.  It can be concluded that there is a progress on student score percentage namely 46.88% from pre-test to post-test based on KKM. Therefore, the application of Substitution and Cued Response Drills Technique is suitable to teach vocabulary to the students.

Abstract : The background of this research is "The Ability to Identify Elements of Drama Text in Class VIII Students of SMP Negeri 11 Kendari". The problem in this research is how is the ability to identify the elements of drama text for eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Kendari? The purpose to be achieved in this study is to describe the ability to identify elements of drama text for eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Kendari. The method used in this research is a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 11 Kendari in the 2018/2019 academic year consisting of 4 classes with a total of 104. Based on the results of the study, of the 73 students who were research respondents, there were 38 students (52%) who obtained categories are able to individually identify elements of drama text. While 35 students (47%) obtained the category of being unable to individually identify elements of drama text. It can be concluded that the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Kendari in identifying the elements of drama text are categorized as incapable. That said, because classically the ability of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 11 Kendari in identifying elements of drama text only reached 52%. From the elements of the drama text, it can be seen that the elements most understood by students are the themes, character characters and mandates in the drama, while the setting of the place is still poorly understood by students. This can be seen in the acquisition of student scores in research. The elements of drama text include aspects of the theme (95.89%), aspects of 3 elements in dialogue (79.45%), aspects of the stages of the plot (34.24%), aspects of character characters (86.30%), aspects of the setting (17.80%), mandate aspect (98.63%). Of the six aspects assessed, there are three aspects that are categorized as capable, namely aspects of the theme, character character and mandate, while three aspects are classified as in the incapable category, namely aspects of the 3 elements in dialogue, stages of flow, and setting of the place. Keywords: ability; identify; drama elements

This research aimed to know the eighth grade students’ satisfaction on the English teacher professionalism in teaching English as Foreign Language at SMP Negeri 8 Singaraja in academic year 2018/2019. The object of this research was English teacher professionalism. The subject of this research was 151 eighth grade students’ satisfaction at SMP Negeri 8 Singaraja. The data of this research were obtained by using questionnaire and interview question sheet to the students. This research was used mixed-method approach because the writer combines both quantitative and qualitative method in analyzing the data. This result indicate that average score from reliability,responsiveness,empathy,guarantee and physical evidence which get an average score of 3.9, 3.89, 4.1, 4.1, and 4.1 that means all of variables are in the satisfying level. Finally, it can be concluded that students are showing positive respond against english teacher professionalism in English learning
