Modern world trends in education are aimed at the digital transformation of educational institutions. Traditional approaches to higher education institutions informatization through their automation no longer meet the requirements of the time. Therefore, new approaches are needed, based on the digitalization of educational processes aimed at creating digital universities. For this purpose, the current state of information systems in higher education institutions use and the issue of higher education institutions digital transformation were studied. The problem of automation tools separation was revealed, which does not allow to effectively implement digitalization projects, does not allow to create a single system of building digital universities. It is proposed to solve the digital transformation of higher education institutions problem based on the use of concentric information technology developed in this study, which integrates all information bases, methods and means of solving functional problems into a single digital space to maximize information needs of higher education institutions. This technology is based on the following developed in the study: 1) concentric model of information technology of digital transformation of higher education institutions, which allows to integrate methods and tools of information management to create a single higher education institutions digital space; 2 functionally independent method of information management of higher education institutions, which allows to create universal tools of informatization, which are independent of the composition and specifics of the construction of the created tools of solving functional problems; 3) interlayer information interaction methods, providing reflection in the processes of each of the layers of changes in the information environment of neighboring layers. The results of the study were used in the construction of information and analytical system of the university educational activities support, which was developed and implemented at Cherkasy State Technological University.

In recent years, the rapid development of technological innovation has transformed the business world. Digital transformation improves the economic positioning of companies, contributing to society and the environment, but beyond technological evolution, it also brings social and cultural changes. With the new trends, companies saw the need to train people with digital skills and higher education institutions (HEIs) were forced to change their teaching methods to keep up with the new demands of the labour market. In this context, it is intended to identify the influence that HEIs play in the digital development of regions, in this case, the influence of Public Polytechnic Institutes of Porto in the development of the Metropolitan Area of Porto. The methodology adopted to answer the objectives of this study and research questions formulated, was an exploratory study, using semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. The results obtained allowed us to verify the positive influence of HEIs in the digital development of the Metropolitan Area of Porto. As well as identify the motivations that lead companies to participate in digital transformation initiatives, identify the skills needed to meet the demands of the labour market and identify the efforts made by HEIs to keep up with the digital evolution of society.

AbstractHigher education institutions have in the digital transformation an opportunity to facilitate access to education for individuals of different social backgrounds. At the same time, it will provide them with the necessary tools and skills to face current global problems (poverty, health quality, income disparities, environmental crises, among others) from a transdisciplinary perspective. Progress in the digitalization of higher education has been significantly accelerated by the onset of a pandemics in early 2020 (in European conditions). Such a rapid and massive transition to distance (online) education with comprehensive support for digital technologies is unparalleled. The survey conducted reflects the consequences of this change. Results shows that digital transformation improves some of the most demanded skills in the new knowledge society (searching and processing information, digital communication and socialization or working with text). Likewise, it has an important role in reducing costs related to education, but also in degradation of abilities in personal communication.

An emerging country like India demands a high level of entrepreneurial development for its economic growth as the scope of entrepreneurship is tremendous here. There is a particular reason that developing countries are trying to put in to entrepreneurship education in the higher education institutions (HEIs). Higher education institutions (HEIs) have been playing a major part in current economic development through innovation grant program. The idea of entrepreneurial university can be seen as the universities those have proved to be the best in critical economic development condition. The prime focus of this chapter is to understand the concept of academic entrepreneurship efficiently, to analyze the entrepreneurial challenges in Indian technology universities and how it is related to regional growth. The literature on these entrepreneurial pillars are still quite sparse, and the authors have tried to focus on all the important aspects of them. Higher education institutions (HEIs) are currently developing a significant research interest in transferring from traditional to novel practices in teaching and learning through the use of modern technological tools and platforms. The integration of digital technologies in higher education has tended to focus on improving academic professionals in developing countries like Saudi Arabia. This chapter was driven by a desire to understand ICT implementation in higher education institutions (HEIs) by professionals using digital transformation in Saudi Arabia. This chapter discusses the implementation of digital transformation in teaching and learning at HEIs in Saudi Arabia. This aim is achieved throughout several objectives, beginning by reviewing the related literature and presenting theoretical frameworks. The literature review will provide the possibility of identifying the focal trends related to the topic.

In a digital arena, information technology services provision is shifting to a cloud computing ecosystem. Cloud computing is an enabler for digital transformation with cloud computing service providers central to the digital transformation of both companies and higher education. As cloud computing service providers play the role of an ‘architect' for companies as supply chain is digitised and in supporting higher education institutions striving to deliver user-focused services in the face of increasing competition, an understanding of successful characteristics of cloud computing service provider business models is of main interest for providers and may also be of value for companies and higher education institutions when selecting cloud computing service providers. Despite the importance of cloud computing service providers' business models, information systems literature has provided limited analysis on the characteristics of successful business models. As such, the chapter aims to contribute to the emerging research on characteristics of successful business models.

The ultimate aim of this investigation is to determine the significant contribution of research commercialization of Higher Education Institutions in Region XI on their economic sustainability and commitment to economic development of the region. Using mixed method via triangulation technique, the study infers that the mindset of the respondent universities is not yet for research commercialization. This inference is drawn from the following findings: there are enough inventions and innovations in universities but their research commercialization is less extensive; the degree of the contribution of research commercialization to their own economic sustainability is low at 14.6% but is statistically significant. The level of their commitment to economic development of the region is high but the degree of the contribution of research commercialization to such commitment is very low at only 7.3% and not statistically significant. This means that 85.4% of economic sustainability of universities and 92.7% of their commitment to economic development of the region are contributed by other factors aside from research commercialization. This implies that any increase in the level of research commercialization will have a corresponding effect on the level of its contribution to the universities’ own economic sustainability but not to their commitment to the economic development of the region.

From a managerial perspective, the rapid diffusion of actions and strategies accelerating the digital transformation of institutions is critical for success. However, in education, business, and management studies, digital transformation can be understood as simple evolutionary processes that enable business models, operational processes, and experiences to be made quickly and efficiently by institutions and agents. This aspect can sometimes lead to opposition, especially when little information is available or in situations of high uncertainty. This research aims to evaluate the involvement of an institutional ecosystem in the digital transformation at universities. Using data collected in Chile, this paper analyzes how the adoption of technologies by universities provides a context for understanding digitalization, measured by the IAU World Higher Education Database (UNESCO). The main finding of this paper is that there is a wide and relevant range of impacts of technological change in higher education institutions, particularly in the categories of values and operations. Additionally, this work serves as a repository of knowledge applicable to similar situations considering the specificities of each particular case. The importance to intervene in relation to certain variables at different levels of managerial performance is described and the implications for higher education institutions are discussed in these pages.
