The secondary data were sourced from the company’s financial report for the period of five years from 2013 to 2017 contained in company’s annual reports and account and all were used to compute the dependent variable (share price) while dividend payout ratio and dividend yield as proxies of independent variable respectively. Regression analysis is use establish the relationship between the variables by using Statistical Software (SPSS). The result showed that there is no positive significant relationship between dividend payout ratio, dividend yield and share price of listed industrial goods companies in the Nigeria. Subject. The study deals with heuristics as measures of the emotional impact of people who judge about the value and the final result of the valuation. I review ranges of the value variance when influenced by irrational factors. From psychological perspectives, some phenomena are explained with a set of heuristics that exist as part of behavioral finance. Objectives. Referring to the completed studies, I implement elements of behavioral finance, such as heuristics into the method for assessing how financial decision-makers and their emotions influence the value. Methods. The article is based on methods of induction and deduction to process survey results. Results. The article reveals the content of key methods for measuring emotions of financial decision-maker, which conclude on the value, being influenced by heuristics. I demonstrate tools for implementing psychological measurement methods as part of valuation. Conclusions and Relevance. Considering heuristics of value decision-makers, the appraiser and the cost analyst approximate the valuation result to the real conditions, when market actors are irrational. Doing so, they contribute to the quality of the result of appraisal. The findings are applicable to the practice of appraisers, cost analysts, fundamental analysts. Heuristics enrich and expands the classical apparatus of valuation and increases its quality.

This study examines the determinants of share price of commercial banks listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange Limited over the period of 2006 to 2014. Data were sourced from the annual reports of the sampled banks and analyzed using regression model. The results revealed that earning per share and price- earnings ratios have the significant positive association with share price while dividend yield showed the significant inverse association with share price. The major conclusion of the study is that dividend yield, earning per share and price-earnings ratio are the most influencing factors in determining share price in Nepalese commercial banks. Economic Journal of Development Issues Vol. 17 & 18 No. 1-2 (2014) Combined Issue,Page: 187-198

This study tested an insignificant hypothesis of the capital structure of Miller and Modiglian in Nigeria. The aim was to investigate the validity of the irrelevant hypothesis. The Tobins Q market value measure was modeled as a function of debt-to-equity ratio, long-term debt to equity ratio, and retained earnings ratio. Twenty companies were selected on the basis of the information needed to conduct the survey and the availability of annual financial reports for the ten-year period 2008-2017. Cross-sectional data were obtained from the annual accounts and annual reports of the companies. Random effects were used in the analysis of fixed and random effects. The study showed that 77% volatility in market value can be predicted by the variation of independent variables in the regression model. The beta coefficient of the variables found that the debt-to-equity ratio, the long-term debt-to-equity ratio, the capital-to-earnings ratio is positively and significantly related to the market value of the selected listed companies. The study concludes that capital structure is relevant, unlike Miller's and Modiglian's irrelevant hypothesis. Therefore, it is recommended that managers ensure an adequate combination of capital and debt.

In this study, using the recent Y2-compliance expenditures as an example, we examine whether disclosures relating to investments in information technology (IT) were relevant to investors in assessing the market value of equity. We use a sample of 190 firms that disclosed estimates of total Y2K-compliance costs in their 1997 annual reports to examine the association between Y2K-compliance costs and share prices. We test the joint hypothesis that Y2K-compliance costs were relevant to equity valuation of firms that chose to become Y2K-compliant and that these costs were sufficiently reliable to be reflected in share prices. We find that estimates of Y2K-compliance costs were positively and significantly related to share prices after controlling for earnings, book value of equity, and other factors. We find that the stock market is not shortsighted, and consider investments in Y2K-remediation efforts a significant and value-increasing activity for the average firm.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the intellectual capital (IC) information reported in the annual reports and market value of the companies listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on a panel data collected from the annual reports and Bloomberg database for six years, specifically the periods 2010-2012 and 2016-2018. The total sample consists of 252 observations. The theoretical framework was developed in reference to the resource-based theory. The regression model is based on Ohlson’s model, which has been modified by including IC information. Findings The study found that there is a significant relationship between IC information and firm market value. This finding indicates that companies report their IC to help the stakeholders (e.g. shareholders, investors) to understand the real value of the company (which includes IC values). Practical implications The shift to a knowledge-based economy (KBE) has made knowledge a driver for economic growth, and it has become more important than capital, land and labour. This shift makes IC and resources vital for companies to create wealth, value and gain competitive advantage. The State of Qatar plans to transform its economy to a KBE in its “Qatar Vision 2030”. The findings of the study show that the companies have started to depend more on IC to contribute to transforming Qatar’s economy to a KBE. Originality/value This study could be considered a pioneer study to examine the association of IC disclosure and firm value in Qatar. Furthermore, prior literature has mixed findings, which justifies further investigation of IC’s effect on market value, particularly in the emerging economy of Qatar.

This study examines the strategic use of readability to obfuscate negative news in a German financial communication context. Combining a manual and an automated content analysis, the authors assess the tone and readability of three parts (chairman’s address, share-price development, and development in the fiscal year) of the 2014 annual reports of the 30 companies listed in the German stock index DAX. The results indicate that positively connoted passages in annual reports are not necessarily easier to read than negatively connoted passages. Furthermore, the readability of the annual report varies depending on the part and its function within the report.

This study examined the effect of e-banking income, fee income, and firm size on market value added of Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria. The eight banks categorised by Central Bank of Nigeria in 2014 to be Domestic Systematically Important banks were selected using the purposive sampling technique. Data collected from the annual reports and accounts and the Nigerian Stock Exchange website respectively for a period of 11 years (2008-2018) was used. The descriptive statistics and econometric analysis were employed using the Panel Data Analysis method. Findings from the study revealed that e-banking income and fee income each has a significant positive effect on market value added of DMBs in Nigeria. The study recommends that banks in Nigeria should further develop its internet and other electronic platforms that can improve its income from e-banking operations since e-banking income is shown to be a strong and emerging component that boosts banks' performance. Larger and investment-oriented banks should focus on increasing their share of interest income to become more stable.
