The aim of this study is to determine the historical literacy perception levels of social studies preservice teachers and to examine them in terms of various variables. In this framework, the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The sample of this study consisted of 134 social studies preservice teachers studying at the faculty of education of a state university in the 2019-2020 academic year. The data in the study were collected with the "Historical Literacy Perception Scale" developed by Uluçay (2019), after obtaining the necessary permissions. The data obtained from the scale were analyzed using the statistical package program. Considering the results obtained from the study, it was concluded that the social studies preservice teachers in the sample had high levels of historical literacy perception. In addition, their perception levels increased according to the variables of mother's education level and frequency of watching historical movies. On the other hand, their perceptions did not change / differ according to the variables such as grade level, gender, father's education level, tendency to read history books, to follow historical publications and competence of the teachers. Considering the results of the research in general, it can be said that the preservice teachers benefited sufficiently from their university and pre-university education in terms of historical literacy skills.

This study examined the epistemological beliefs of preservice teachers, from naïve to sophisticated, from five different departments of the faculty of education in a Turkish university. By using the adapted form of the Schommer Epistemological Questionnaire, social studies, science, Turkish, mathematics, and classroom preservice teachers were surveyed and their epistemological belief levels were determined in terms of department and gender variables. Epistemological beliefs were examined in three dimensions: beliefs that pertain to learning depending on effort, beliefs that pertain to learning depending on ability, and beliefs that pertain to there being only one unchanging truth. The analysis indicated that generally all in departments, preservice teachers have sophisticated beliefs regarding the first two dimensions of the questionnaire. For the third dimension, they seem be at medium level. The results show that for the second dimension females have more sophisticated beliefs than males. For the other two dimensions there was no significant difference between females and males. A significant difference was found only for the first dimension and only between mathematics and classroom preservice teachers.

This research aimed to present reasons and solutions that soon-to-graduate preservice social studies teachers expressed in relation to middle school students’ low level of historical literacy as reported in the literature. To this end, we used a basic qualitative research design. The sample consisted of 30 soon-to-graduate preservice teachers (17 women and 13 men) who were studying social studies teaching at the faculty of education of a state university in the 2019-2020 academic year and already served their teaching internship. The data were collected using the semi-structured “Interview form” developed by Keçe (2013). The data were analysed using descriptive analysis. According to the analysis results, the preservice social studies teachers stated that middle school students’ low level of historical literacy was generally due to the methods and techniques used by teachers in teaching historical topics, students’ lack of interest in historical topics, and the lack of parental encouragement. The preservice teachers also highlighted that students should be encouraged to use social media tools properly and the content of historical series, films, documentaries, and television shows should be adjusted to students.

The research was designed in the descriptive survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, with the aim of revealing the attitudes of preservice teachers regarding the rights of the child. The target population of the research was composed of 1419 students studying in the classroom teaching departments in education faculties of seven universities from seven different geographical regions of Turkey in 2017-2018 academic year, which were selected by random sampling. The research was carried out with 818 students who were selected by multiphase sampling and who volunteered to participate in the study. The scale in the research was named “questionnaire for measuring attitudes towards children’s rights”. The data was collected with this scale. According to the results, it was found that students’ attitudes towards children’s rights who participated in the research were high. While no significant differences were found according to the students’ class levels and taking course regarding child/human rights variables, there were significant differences according to gender and university variables. It was revealed that the attitudes of the female students regarding the rights of the child were higher than those of male students; and the attitudes of the students regarding the rights of the child in Trakya University were higher than those in Adiyaman University. Regarding the results obtained, various suggestions were made such as giving the courses related to the rights of the child within the framework of compulsory courses and increasing the informative education activities for male students regarding the rights of the child.

The present research aims to determine the effect of films including school and teacher whose learning processes are applied with “Critical Reflection Skills (CRS)” on the critical reflection skills of 4th primary education teachers. In accordance with this purpose, the research was carried out with 73 participants who were the 4th grade students in the Primary Education Teacher Training Department of Gazi Faculty of Education in Gazi University in 2012-2013 education year. The qualitative and quantitative research methods were applied together during the process. Data were collected with “The Critical Reflection Self-assessment Scale (CRSS)” - “Critical Team Application Focus Team Interview Form (CTAFTIF)” and “ Meta Team Observation Form”. During the data collection process, the participants watched the school and teacher containing films at first and then, “Critical Reflection Application (CRA)” adapted from “Critical Reflection Strategy with Teams” was applied. Content analysis was adopted in the analysis of the qualitative data gathered during the research process. In the analysis of the quantitative data, t-test and one-way variance analysis were used.  The results of the conducted research demonstrated that teachers started to generate thinking of critical reflection with school and teacher containing films and the CRA process. It was noticed that statistically a significant difference occurred between the control and experimental groups in terms of critical reflection skills.
